Dude, a 14th PPV? Really?

Welcome to My (And Not Sly's) House
From the main page:

During yesterday's web conference call which revealed the return of the WWE Diva Search competition, WWE's Senior Vice President of Partner Sales, Joe DelGrosso, spoke on the state of WWE PPVs. DelGrosso noted that the company would NOT be scaling back on its 13 PPVs a year schedule, and additionally said that "13" is actually the minimum amount of PPVs the company will run, implying the possibility of even more PPVs being added to WWE's line-up.

Dude, really? Their buyrate deserves to be in the hole if this happens.

It should just go back to the old way, this is way to many ppv's, they ain't getting a chance to build the fueds up.

Bet this will backfire. The more PPVs they push out the more people are going to be forced to selectively order. Once they get out of the habit of getting them all WWE actually has to sell them each show. Although the sad thing is they can put Cena taking a shit in the ring on PPV and it would at least profit.

There'd be ample time to build feuds if there were more hours of original WWE programming each week. Someone should look into that.

The problem with having so many PPVs is that they're so expensive. Fifty dollars, seriously?! I can understand fifty for Mania, but for the rest of the PPVs? Uh-uh.

Even that won't be enough. Not with what little time they have to sell these shows.

In addition to more television, wrestling matches should be shorter to include more build and storytelling in the shows.

Didn't they used to have 15-16? 2005 had 15. (just checked)

While I don't think adding more will help their cause, the fact that someone (or rather, multiple someone's) will buy tickets to them, ppv sales for them, merch. at them, etc.. even if it's just smaller amounts of profit - as long as it's a "+" in the profit catagory, they'll do it until they bleed people dry of funds.

Personally, I've considered for the first time since being able to afford getting every Wrestling ppv available.. to stop ordering them monthly, and simply spend the $100. at the end of every month to buy the boxset of everything combined.

anyone that spends that much money on buying each pay per view should have their head examined. 50 bucks a month is too much of a commitment. I used to buy every pay per view possible, but the price tag is out of hand.

According to my crude mathematics skills, the WWE might have nothing to gain from cutting back on their scheduling. They usually get around 230,000 (averaged) buys for a PPV alone, with WrestleMania, the Rumble, SummerSlam and Survivor Series doing slightly better.

230,000 x $50 x 14 (PPV events) = $161,000,000 a year.

If they were to scale it down to maybe 6 or 7 PPV's a year, then the buyrates might jump up to around 400,000 per PPV. Then again, it might stay the exact same. For the purposes of this though, we'll say 400,000.

400,000 x $50 x 7 (PPV events) = $140,000,000

So really, it is a gamble to reduce the amount of PPV events there are in a year, Coupling that with the merchandise sales and gate receipts for the events, there really is not logical reason for the WWE to start cutting away money-spinning events. Sure, we might think that it is tied to quality but there is no proof for that. Plus, business is about making money and the WWE still manages to pull that off.

Cut them some slack.

I can afford to do it, currently. That is why I do.

If my concern as a viewer is quality, I'm not going to be cutting them any slack.

This.

Just because people can afford 15 ppvs a year, and thousands/millions will buy tickets to go to these events - it doesn't mean adding more shows will bring up the quality of the shows.

If anything, it just means more re-run(ish) ppvs. It always seems that the Backlash/Judgment Day/Extreme Rules (April, May, June) set of ppvs run the same exact matches-rematches, and the progression of the feud is done on television, yet nothing is fully resolved until the June show.

At some point, multiple people will simply quit paying attention to the April-May schedule, and go from Mania to June before paying attention again.. and my guess is they won't miss much in between.

There is no proof you can give me that suggests that waiting longer for an event makes it any more worth the wait. A PPV can still be disappointing, even if we have waited 3 months for it to happen. I don't get the tie between waiting and quality. Sure, it might feel as though it is building to something but WrestleMania is the longest wait for a PPV last year and I enjoyed Elimination Chamber and Royal Rumble just as much.

For me, it doesn't matter how long I wait between shows. What matters is that the WWE give me a card worth buying. I believe that they can do that in 4 to 5 weeks and get the same result if they did it in 12.

What I wouldn't mind is some sort of package where you can buy an entire year's worth of PPVs for a lower cost. I know they'd have to work it out with cable providers, so obviously not everybody could have it...but if they did it where you could watch all of the PPVs online (because you can buy the PPV on their website), that would be awesome! I always use my computer to watch the events anyways, so if I were to be offered some sort of package like $200 for a year's worth of online PPVs, then I would be more inclined to go with that instead of selectively buying 4 or 5 throughout the year for the same price.

In addition to a Wednesday show, yes.

Why not put Tough Enough on Wednesdays? That seemed like the most reasonable move in my mind when the negotiations to bring TE back were first announced.

Other than that, I know this has been said, but once the PPV price goes down (minus Mania), then I won't mind this at all.
