Drew McIntyre: the original debut

Paralyzer Z

Fuck honor
In the present, Drew McIntyre has had one of the biggest internet followings in the IWC, or just about anywhere except within the WWE itself. He is well known for having his "debut" in 2009 on SD against R-Truth and thus bringing in his "Chosen one" gimmick into the faze. He has since become a mid card guy and is now absent from television quite a lot. His hiatus (or abundance of them) had caused a demand for him to return to TV, not by the WWE universe but by the internet. Anyway my point here is; does anyone remember his original debut?

No not the one against in 2009 but in 2007. He had a different look and was under teachings of Dave Taylor. I believe he was only on TV for about a month before going back to FCW. The initial outing by Drew was a failure. Don't believe me? go to 1:40 in this video and you will see him:

If Drew had taken this path without disappointing from TV like he did before returning in 2009, where would it have taken him?

I think McIntyre's original gimmick was fine, but even though I was a big fan of his back then, I think his 2009 re-debut worked better for him. In my opinion McIntyre is one of the biggest missed opportunities of all time.

On a side note, god I miss that SmackDown arena set-up. So superior to the bland and boring HD set.

And also, I miss Deuce n' Domino. One of my personal favorite tag teams of all time.

The problem with Drew, is that there is nothing special about him. Exactly how does he stand out? Getting over with just being tall and having long hair doesnt work in 2011. It migh of worked in the mid-late 90's, but it's been done to death.

Drew will have to follow the path of other stars who had nothing to immediatly stand them out. And that's geting his body right, develope a very agressive in-ring style that isnt relegated to just "big man" moves, and develope close relationships with wrestlers who can not only mentior him, but advocate for him.

Their is no easy way out for him and it will take atleast 2 years of on TV exposure, in serious mid card angles, before he will be ready for a successfull main-event push.

done to death in the mid late 90s? to be honest i didn't likedont a wrestler cause of their hair you twat lol i liked them cause they had something about them.

Drew has long hair deal with it.

in ring he has no problems, he needs work on the mic thats all.

Though what should i really expect from someone who thinks CM Punk should go haha

you clearly know nothing about the industry but try to talk your way into people believing you have a valid point.

Drew will be fine and have a career when he is ready, Ryans opinions will always make me giggle and rage at the same time and people will always assume cause i am scottish i am biased towards Drew.

;)

Haha funny hearing it from the guy who thinks CM Punk should go and is feeds on WWE management crap. Of course you don't like Drew and don't think he'll be successful because thats what WWE is giving you right now. Drew was successful, he was suppose to be World Heavy Weight Champion instead of Jack Swagger back in 2010, he was suppose to win the Money In the Bank to go on to win the belt but then his push was delayed *it was in one of the wrestling zone article*. You know why? The WWE didnt trust him and delayed him of the belt and decided it should go to an ex- ECW champion. Then you see him turning face and getting the push again with Kelly Kelly and then he kicked to the curb! Why? Because of his issue with Tiffany and after the breach of contract, Drew paid the price. So you can't just go "theres nothing special about him" just because you eat up WWE crap. You apparently did not follow his debut all the way until his down fall. He was the fastest raising star next to Sheamus during 2009-2010. So don't talk about how he is unsuccessful when WWE is not even giving him a chance. Oh and a little tip for you, stop feeding on WWE management crap.

Finally I have proof that he debuted first in 2007. I have a couple people that I talk wrestling with at work and they all said that I was crazy, I just couldn't remember if he was with Dave Taylor or William Regal. Anyway i am sure he would have been regulated to the non existent tag team division back then and been off tv anyway. As for today I think he is being misused. He could just as easy be in Dolph Ziggler's spot. Although I personally don't see the big deal about Dolph. I think a few tweaks here and there and some improved mic skills he could at least be an upper mid card performer. He has the in ring ability. This is another argument for bringing back managers. I just don't see the downside of giving some of these talented wrestlers that can't talk a mouthpiece to do it for them.

As a Drew Fan im really dissapointed, i mean seriously what are they doing with him right now? i was really getting into his character and gimmick, and his aggresive style similar to sheamus but then boom he dissapears. now i kno ppl say he is in the dog house right now but that is a talent they cannot waste.

That Ryan86 is unbelievable, he has no in ring aggression? He's barely been on tv this year but when he was his matches were definately aggressive. His Mic skills are actually good the thing is, it's his accent, it's hard to understand for many. From reading dirt sheets his push got haulted due to him thinking he was untouchable and the Tiffany situation. He's not been on TV but he has ditched Tiffany, just give him some damn tv time even if he is jobbing.

I remember that original debut for McIntyre and thought he was very unimpressive. It didn't impress me in the least bit. I think he would have been future endeavoured because there was absolutely nothing special about that character. He was just a protege (kayfabe) of Taylor, who didn't last much longer himself. Drew would have jobbed until losing his own job, but WWE clearly saw something in him so they had him go back down to developmental before getting called up for real. He of course came back in 2009 and I remembered him as someone who sucked and instantly dismissed him as a nobody yet again, although his The Chosen One gimmick ended up being awesome and he quickly made a fan out of me. It's a shame he's not getting the push he deserves.

You guys are dogging this guy, but he's right. Drew really doesn't have anything going for him, you can't get over on having an accent and your look. Whenever he came out, he got little to no reaction, and that's not because of how he's being booked, it's because he has no character. He's just a mean guy. Fans today are different from fans in the 80's where they would simply hate someone because they were told to. Drew needs to find something..just like Ryder found something, to get himself over. If he doesn't do that he'll be mid-card for life or released and become world champ in TNA. :)

He needs to stay away from the Midcard-Mania or Mafia pish that Tyler Reks is pushing goddamn. Still it's unbelievable that guys like Brodus Clay are going to come in and dominate when WWE have more credible 'wrestlers' right now. I am biased to Drew as like him i'm Scottish. I liek his intenisty in the ring and he deserves another shot but he needs to help himself to do that.

Actually people like Drew McIntyre, do you see people actually post up and beg for Drew McIntyre to get out of the dog house on youtube videos? Seriously, even before his Raw draft, he was starting to turn face and the crowd actually loved him *mostly girls* but still they liked him. Along with that, even when he was a heel, he actually had "REACTIONS" from the fans, they booed the crap out of him, which only means one thing...It means people actually care about what he has to do. The only person to ever be booed because they don't care about him is Michael Cole because he is not a wrestler. People actually like Drew because he is talented, hes been wrestling ever since he was 15! His look has nothing to do with his success, hell if you read my post before you would know that Drew was suppose to be WHC. Cm Punk doesnt have the look of a star does he? Austin looked like crap when he started and still looks crap today, bald and a beard that its. The Rock and his curly hair and baggy clothes took him to become the most electrifying man in all sports entertainment. You know why they're at where they are at? Its because WWE actually gave them a chance to be there, but for Drew? Nope, hes still in the dog house, like CM Punk suggested, Look doesnt matter, its about how good you are. You and Ryan are only seeing this from the MONEY point of view of which wrestler will draw more money.

Ok, you my friend make the most sense out of all the posts! You know what's going on and what's happened in the past! The way I see it is he has a few chances left to get over again, but this time he has to be more over than last time and the WWE know how to do this! They can do it with pretty much anyone if they feel like it. But nowadays its more "who can sell the most merch" I've seen one chosen one t-shirt, thats it! Drew has a following in the IWC, but most don't seem to get through to the WWE as they seem to listen only to the crowds! Ryder had a following on the Internet, but only started to get a big push when people in the crowd started chanting his name! I can't see this happening with Drew and being a heel makes it more difficult to chant for. I hope the WWE come to their senses and start listening to the IWC and Drew fans alike! But if they go on the WWE-CLUB forums then Big Mac is screwed as they don't seem to follow him as much and shoot him down any chance they get! They only seem to eat up all the WWE crap that they tell them as you say! I for one think he has earned a new push and hopefully 2012 will be the start of something special!:)

Drew mcintrye is a wrestler I like a lot. for obvious reasons:
!. has the look of a credible champion
2) great in ring abilities
3) his entrance video tiantron is the best in wwe atm.

This guy has been messed about. Drew is much better than zack ryder and deserves to be challenging for a title. please wwe give him a winning run up to the rumble and get him the 'susprise' number 30 entry and vince intoducing him. This guy could be claasic at Wm drew vs byran at wm28
