I'm not going to try to defend Suarez, or Hansen for the matter, what they both said was totally wrong but it actually highlights the fact that racism is not always black and white. I did that on purpose.

What I mean is there's lots of people in this country, of which I'm sure Hansen is one, who aren't racist in the sense that they think of black people as being fundamentally different to white people, but who use terms that the rest of society does not deem acceptable. In Hansen's case he used a word that is no longer acceptable but once was, in Suarez's case he used a word which is acceptable in South America but not in Europe. Both should be aware of this, but the issue highlights the complexity of language and the meaning that we attribute to it.

The difference between them and Terry is that not only should Terry as a younger English man know better about what is and isn't acceptable in this time in this place, he brought race into an insult for no reason whatsoever. If what Suarez said he said is true, and if the mitigating factors are true, he still deserves to be punished. If the FA sees that punishment as being 8 matches, then fine. But Terry should be looking at months out in that case.

Alan Hansen said racism isnt as bad in football as it used to be because of the success of "coloured" players in the modern game.

Load of black people went ape shit on the internet, typing such witty wonders as "what colour am I then Alan? Orange? Purple?"

In short, Alan Hansen is an old bastard, probably used the term "coloured" so as to not offend black people because it seems like not all that long ago that they were supposed to be called coloured anyway and calling them black was wrong. People overreacted like they always do, lots of tiresome shit, people need to lighten up.

Have fun, Tastycles. I'm going to the Arsenal-Tottenham match in February. Can't fucking wait. The last time I went to a match was the 3-1 win over Chelsea last year. Oh, and I went to the Emirates Cup but, that was shit.

Going to Anfield today. First time in either exactly 7 or exactly 8 years, though I can't remember which.
Colour me jealous. It's been nearly ten years since I've been for a home game.

To make everything right with the world, we should batter them and ensure Kean doesn't last any longer.

It's been 10 years since Newcastle last won a boxing day game, with our last away win on the same date in 1988.

Bloody hell, Liverpool. We have become so easy to play against at home. Just pack the area in front of the box and we get virtually get shut down. Not sure what Agger was doing when he gave away the corner that led to Adam's sliced clearance into the top corner.

Still, it did not help that the ref/linesman failed to give a stonewall penalty and that Blackburn keeper pulled off two wonder saves from Andy Carroll and then another was cleared off the line with the last kick.

And there we have it.

Lee's mates in pub "bring on Ben Arfa"

Lee after 69 minutes "you've been wanting him to play all game and he's been shit *goal* I take that back!"

Today he started off with every one of his passes being either lateral or backwards. By the end of the game, every one of his passes was going to a Blackburn player

I know. When I saw him at the Fulham game, my criticism was that he was the invisible man and never in the game. Today, he was on the ball loads, and I'd like him to return to being the invisible man again. When you have a £35 million Andy Carroll lumbering about and seemingly forgetting to run into the box at times, it seems outrageous to say it, but Jordan Henderson is unquestionably the biggest waste of money in the Liverpool squad right now, and if it wasn't for £10 million-per-goal-two-of-which-were-against-Genk Fernando Torres and Roque Santa Cruz still technically playing for City, a shoe-in for the biggest waste of money in the Premier League.

Newcastle now decide that they won't be buying a much-needed striker, despite Ba being sent off to Africa in January :banghead:

I think they are just keeping their cards close to their chest. If clubs know that they are eager then they will just drive up their prices when newcastle do come looking. I'd be very surprised if they left themselves without cover for Ba when he goes to Africa.

THis is my thought on it, there was one striker we wanted from montpellier and the chairman of them said "they're not a big club and I know they want a stiker so they can pay 50millionEuros" erm right.

Thing is, Montpellier are top of the Ligue 1, they are going to sell strikers cheap anyway. And, if they were too, would the player even want to move? Is first in the Ligue 1 better than 7th in the Premier League? Not sure me.

Cabaye went from champions Lille to 12th in the league newcastle so I don't see why not.

The chairman's a knob though, just poor form really.

I find it amazing how surprised everyone is when Carroll starts to get more involved in the game when the ball is actually crossed in to him early rather than fired at his feet with his back to goal and not another Liverpool player within 30 yards. What made it even more frustrating is that Downing had Ryan Taylor skinned every time he took him on in the first half but rarely did he actually take him on. His tendency to turn inside is almost McManaman-esque.

As much as the commentators fawned, there were a couple of Liverpool players who noticeably upped their game when Gerrard came on, particularly Downing and Henderson. All of a sudden, both were driving forward rather than looking to pass inside or backwards.

Some thoughts on tonights game:
Gerrard + Carroll + Suarez + Bellamy could be an awesome combo.
Newcastle were pretty toothless and surprised me how poor they really were. It was frustrating that it took Stevie's introduction to break them down.
Downing would be incredible with some end product. As it is, he is our Theo Walcott, minus Walcott's electric pace and decent finishing skill. Awful waste of cash, wasted on the right flank.
Steven Gerrard = LEGEND. We keep him fit and we may be able to salvage this rotten season.
