To be fair on a like to like basis (everton at home this year to last) in 10 games we've got +18. So fuck if we haven't played anyone we're beating teams we lost to last year.

We beat stoke 3-1 who beat Liverpool.
We kept a clean sheet against Arsenal who put 2 past Man U and 5 past Chelsea.

Oha nd we have the best defence in the country.

Well, no, because they've beat two of the top 5 away, scoring 11 goals in the process. Newcastle have played 3 of the top 10, two of them at home, and drawn all three games. Newcastle are having a great season, clearly, and you can only beat what's put in front of you, but I think they're basically getting the most optimistic result possible from each game, and the Stoke result aside, they haven't really done anything particularly earth shattering.

I expect they'll comfortably finish in the top 10 and the defence is performing really well, but they've won 7 games, and 6 of those were against teams currently in the bottom 7. If they're still in the top 5 after the next three games, then people will quite rightly start talking about them, but until then they've just had quietly impressive performances that don't really warrant shitting the bed.
