Domestic football - spam version

Easily the greatest sporting underdog story in history. I don't think you can be a supporter of any club and dislike Leicester. It now gives every team that real belief that you can do it, instead of just trying to stay out of relegation. It will probably never happen again. So many things went right for them really in terms of what the other teams did. Not taking anything away from Leicester though, they did something words can't describe.

The only little thing I have against LC at the moment is that they could of let us (Man U, they don't know it but I'm apart of the team) win on Sunday. They had the league wrapped up pretty much and we need CL. City were in a bad spot and was unlikely they would take the full three points. Was a big opportunity that United let slip I think. But I'm blaming Leicester, so fuck you LC.

Shit like this is not true. Forest were relegated in 1972. In 1977 they finished third in division two. In 1978 they won the first division. In 1978 they won the European cup.

That's the equivalent of Norwich who finished third in the Championship last year winning the league this year then winning the Champions league next year.

They sort of accidentally fell into it and that's why I like them. If Pearsons son and the other two hadn't have been racist/sexist doing a threesome in Thailand he'd not have been sacked. They strangely didn't take action with Vardy's racism but you know.

One hell of an achievement, but not the greatest in sports or football.

Noooo, we want Spurs to get docked points!

Could do with both?

Not in my mind. When the main 5 teams literally have all the money to have basically first priorty to anyone coming to the Premier League then it makes it hard to find a decent enough team to compete. United have two 30 (almost 30) million dollar players sitting on our bench regularly. Not that money wasn't an issue back then, now it's just ridiculous. Plus Clough even came out and said that winning the cup wasn't as good as winning the league, "as anyone can pull together a lucky string of games, but to maintain top for the whole season proves your the best". Now obviously they did that, I just think it's a lot harder now for teams that are coming up from the division below or even have been on the bottom half of the table for a long time, with the money there is now, thus making it a lot harder.

I agree somewhat. As Khalifa said, the money these big 5 clubs have attract all the 'good' players. From what I've heard, the financial gap wasn't as large back then. It still doesn't undermine what Clough did with Forest, or with Derby, but this one's right up there.

Yeah I'm not saying that it wasn't a massive accomplishment and we probably won't hear of many times again, but all I'm saying is throwing millions and millions of dollars at people is unfair and makes it, atleast how I see it, a bit harder to attract the better players of the league.

The footballing climate now is designed to specifically avoid a story like this - keep the biggest (or richest) teams at the top and suppress smaller sides from progressing. Do whatever makes you the most money. Forest were in their pomp in an era where it was far more common for their to be diversity in league and cup winners.

The only reason Scudamore came out yesterday to praise Leicester is because he sees a money making opportunity in their win. If Stoke, West Ham, Leicester, Everton and Man City (gotta throw one of the big boys a bone) were to win the next five titles between themselves, Scudamore would be pulling his hair out - you can only shill the underdogs/unlikely winners story every so often, because it loses it's luster after awhile, same as how he probably hated it when Man United were dominating the league because that makes the whole thing very stale.

Same with the 'Champions' League (how can it be a 'Champions' League if you're allowing the fourth, third and second place teams in?). We talk of it as the greatest trophy in European sport, but it has been deeply hindered by the same top teams absolutley dominating the bloody thing for the better part of a half decade (its been dominated by a core, elite group of ten or twelve for a long time, but Bayern, Barca and Real being three of the final four in four of the last six competitions illustrates this point best).

Things like this simply didn't happen in Nottingham Forest's heyday. The only way you had multiple teams from the same league in the tournament was if the holders weren't the domestic champions. Forest never had to go through the ringer against the constantly dominating super clubs. They beat Liverpool (holders), AEK Athens, Grasshoppers, Cologne and ultimately Malmo to win their first European Cup.

Take the modern day counterparts of those first three opponents (so Olympiacos, Basel and Bayern Munich - excluding Liverpool due to the rule to prevent teams from the same country playing against each other). Leicester could get through that and still have to go through another six games before they could even get to the final. Winning the European Cup, while amazing and remarkable (and doing it back-to-back no less), was easier back when Forest did it.

It's a different era, like comparing apples with oranges. They're both fine fruit.

I cannot overstate what Jurgen Klopp has done with this Liverpool team. Absolutely awesome football when they can be bothered to perform. We really shouldn't have finished lower than fifth this year.

In related news, the final is on my wifes' birthday. Fuck.

Fuck you, John Terry. Being banned for the last two games of your Chelsea career is a fitting send off for such a massive twat.
:lmao: This may be the most un-Barbosa-like post but it's so spot on.

My sentiments exactly.

Intense finishes at both ends of the table.

But seriously, Lee, your boys better win next week!

Need Everton and Watford to help too.

Though some cheek to ask after the performance against the mackems.

I feel like the Olympic Stadium is bordering on government aid, but, looking at the corpse that was my club, it's hard to muster fucks to give.

It is a very strange deal. It was almost like the government were so desperate to not have the stadium sit empty that they threw money and concessions at whomever won the rights to the stadium.

Wembley should have a resident team too, although I would guess that the FA would attempt to rip the absolute arse out of it.

I don't understand the borderline hysteria regarding the last match at Upton Park.

Sure, it's old but it is hardly some iconic stadium.

Likely because it's one of the last remnants of the old east end and West Ham are more of a community club than anyone else in London.

That would be somewhat understandable (although still not worth the hype) if all that had been mentioned in the waxing lyrical about the Boleyn Ground. Instead all that has been talked about is the 1970s.

I can't help but think that the title race being over has encouraged the likes of Sky to go all in with the end of Boleyn.

Pretty much, multiple boring transfer deadline days have shown us Sky Sports is more then willing to hype anything. Around this time last year they overhyped Gerrards last games at Liverpool.

Cheek saying United struggled to take the lead but they won 3-2.

I don't watch football much due to certain reasons.

BUT Can someone tell me, "Who are the best players in football currently except C. Ronaldo, L. Messi & Neymar?"
