That Welback guy looks kind of decent as a striker for England.

Could he be Sturridge ver. 2.0 for Aresnal after being given a run as a central striker? Loved how Arsenal stole him from Spurs on deadline day.

How did they steal him from Spurs?

Our interest died down a few days before the window ended after we realised United wanted to sell, not loan, and there's no way we were going to pay 16 million for him.

He's a good player and I would have loved to see how he went up front for us but there's no way he's worth that amount of money. I'd rather stick with the three we have now and see how they get on before reassessing in the summer.

Ryan Gauld could be playing in the Champions League this year. He's in Sporting Lisbon's 23 man squad that they submitted. Hope the world gets to see what the lad can do. He's a special talent.

Us Chelsea supporters are coming out the woodwork, and why not, you may all prepare to be raped by Mourinho and co.

All signs before Arsenal's interest due to Giroud's injury pointed to Welbeck signing for Spurs one way or another. If that isn't stealing him I don't know what is.

Welbeck was always going to be off the books of United after they signed Di Maria. It was made even more obvious after the pursue of Falcao came to light. Arsenal made a cash offer. Spurs didn't even though their priority was also to sign a striker.

Stop trying to play the guy that say he wasn't 'really' interested in the girl anyway after being rejected.

What are you on about?

Falcao came in at the last moment. 'Getting him off the books' doesn't mean they were always going to sell him outright.

I just said I would have liked to have seen Welbeck given a go at Spurs...

In the last few days before the window shut, it become pretty clear we couldn't get him on loan. No way we were going to, or even able, to spend 16 million on someone who hasn't truly proven himself yet. They didn't zip in and knick him from us.

I am on about Welbeck being favourites to join Spurs before Arsenal expressed an interest in signing him. No where was it stated United ONLY wanted to outright sell him. Arsenal upped the offer and Spurs didn't or couldn't match. You contradict yourself in stating here that getting him off the books doesn't mean outrigtht selling him yet in your earlier post you said United only wanted to sell so Spurs 'lost' interest. Which is it?

Stop trying to revise history because you didn't get your player.

The bolded part - wtf are you on about? Go back and read everything. You'll work it out, I'm sure. Spurs were only interested in a loan deal - once United said they only wanted to sell outright, we were out of there.

Actually I'm right. Wenger just came out and said he wanted Welbeck on loan first before thinking of a purchase next summer, but it United said it was a permanent buy or nothing. So, yeah...

There's no way we were going to spend that much on Welbeck.

Bolded parts is where you are talking out of your ass again.

So basically the Arsenal board went over Wenger's head. Doesn't disprove the point that Arsenal stole him from Spurs which you are denying. Seriously re-read what point you are arguing about first.

Let me put it in order for you to make it simple so you can understand.

1) United were going to let Welbeck go to make room for Di Maria and Falcao

2) Spurs were favourite to sign him up to deadline day itself

3) Arsenal found out they needed another striker and made a last minute attempt to sign Welbeck

4) Arsenal got Welbeck and Spurs didn't

Hence Arsenal 'stole' Welbeck from Spurs.

Stole would mean some kind of bidding war or outbid.

You're making yourself look dumber by the second.

We couldn't afford to buy him and as soon as United made that clear, we dropped out of the race before Arsenal even arrived.

As hard as you're trying to be some kind of try hard saviour, to get some green squares on a wrestling forum, it's not working.

Only you care about green squares enough to red square people base on which teams they support. Seriously, just admit your error and we can move on.

Error? We never even bid for him.

When did I say I cared about red squares? I use them as a messaging tool. Oh, so that's why you're all pissy. What team do you support?

Yeah negotiating with United to take him on loan isn't a bid for him. Yeah losing all leverage over the negotiations once Arsenal entered the bidding equates to 'losing interest'. How dense can you get?

I'm not the one being pissy here. I simply said Arsenal stole a player off Spurs in a competition for a player that was made available and you were the were getting pissy about me using the term 'stole'.

Look Spurs might have been better off without getting their man for that price. (wages + transfer fee). Doesn't mean Arsenal didn't come in at the last minute and steal him away. Why can't you get that point?

you red rep people for not supporting their local team, yet you go for spurs and your location says Australia.

Am i tripping the fuck out or are you completely fucked in the head?

Well, one I've never said you have to 'support your local team' - I've always said I find people who support big clubs who aren't from the area as fake fans.

Two - I'm from North London as if the rest of my family. I've just moved out to Australia when I was younger.

Of course you're going to go against what I say - you're a Man United supporter from Australia.

Just in response to your rep message - I have no idea who Alastor supports, hence why I'm asking. He never referred to Arsenal as 'we' or 'us'.

The way I would look at it is that we don't have enough information to decide what exactly happened and it is very easy to twist things to make them say what you want.

The way I see it, Arsenal's late interest changed everything. Welbeck was heavy odds on to join Spurs on loan but when a second party became interested, Utd tested the waters with a permanent deal. When Arsenal were willing to buy Welbeck, that took Spurs out of the running as they could not/would not pay for him.

Had Arsenal not wanted to buy him, it would likely have been a straight choice for Welbeck for a loan deal to either. And had Arsenal not come in at all, Welbeck would be at Spurs on loan.

Therefore, while you could say that Arsenal 'stole' him in a sense that their interest stopped Welbeck going to the Lane, it is by no means that straightforward.

I agree with most of what you said here - but: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/sep/11/arsene-wenger-danny-welbeck-arsenal-wanted-loan

I just think as soon as United made it clear they wanted a fee now, we had no chance of getting him. Mind you, I wouldn't have minded Welbeck at the Lane. I think if he's given the chance to shine, like he should be at Arsenal, he will surprise some people.

I have no reason to doubt Wenger, but I still think that if neither Arsenal nor Spurs had been willing to pay for Welbeck, he would still have moved on loan. Van Gaal has made it clear that he does not rate him as a goal scorer and with the arrival of Falcao, he wasn't going to have a chance of playing anywhere for Utd.

Although maybe Woodward is dumb enough with Utd's money to not take the chance to remove the wages of someone who is not going to play from the bill.

If he actually gets to play as a striker then Welbeck could easily shine in the same manner as Sturridge has at Liverpool, although that is a big ask. He has shown that he can finish well in an England shirt when he gets his confidence up.

This is the conclusion most logical fans would reach. And what I posted in jest saying Arsenal 'stole' Welbeck from Spurs. But somehow using the term 'stole' or 'steal' is one step too far to describe what happened for #1Peep and he went on his hissy fit.

Hissy fit? How does anything I've written suggested I've had a hissy fit? I'm just pointing out how you're wrong.

The bloke from above me had the same debate without drama - you're the one turning it all pissy.
