Whose the 3rd team for the drop then? I'm slightly keener on Wigan staying up but Lambert has had a very inexperienced team to blood and settle into the PL so I'm more intrigued to see what they would be like next season.

I think the difference between them for me is Shaun Maloney. Looks more consistent now and has an Aberdeen connection.

Ask me after the villa/mackem game.

What's funnier than De Gea getting keeper is mackems recon Mignolet should have it.

Sorry but I have to agree with the choice. He's been the best player for my money this year. Even Suarez and Van Persie went missing for matches throughout the year. Good choice, I think.

I don't agree with you. How you can ban a player for 10 game for biting a player and then name him Player Of The Year baffles me. In saying that, I thought it was just Suarez, Van Persie and Bale that were on the final shortlist for that award? If Mata were included, then I might be inclined to agree with you. Suarez is a piece of shit. He doesn't deserve any professional award. Period.

I'd definitely argue that Mata's had a better season than Bale, and that he's been more consistent... because he has.

De Gea got it because every keeper has been fairly mediocre this season. None have stood out, so the players understandably have gone for the guy who plays for the Champions. People like Reina, Vorm, Hart and Cech who have been good in recent years were noticeably worse this season than they have been. People like Begovic and Guzan have had decent seasons, but you can't give best keeper to someone who concedes a shitload, even if it isn't their fault that they do.

Oh, I completely agree that Suarez could not be voted player of the year after biting someone.

However, that does not take away from the fact that he has had a far better and more consistent season than Bale or anyone else in the league for that matter.

I agreed with 4 of the 6 man shortlist - Suarez, Bale, Mata and RVP - but I had a couple of others ahead of both Carrick and Hazard, namely defenders like Vertonghen and Zabyleta.

As for goalkeeper of the year, no one has really stood out at all.

Don't see anything wrong Bale being named double winner or with the team of the year except the two central defender spots. Agger Ivanovic or Luiz could have been dark horses to make it.
It's not like the Scott Parker debacle a few years ago. At least Carrick was really consistent in the engine room of the champion.
Keeper was a toss up between De Gea or Hart for me but I'll give it to the GK of the champs. No real stand out defenders this season with many suffering minor injuries costing them games. Michu and Carzola probably should be there but Mata was just more consistent throughout the season. The two striker positions were a lock.

Ferdinand was a definite dark horse for me, Agger, Nastasic, Ivanovic, Luiz could've alled made it ahead of Ferdinand I thought, but being in the defence for the champions you'll always go places.

De Gea decision was correct, no other keeper really stands out as best, Hart had some major mistakes, as did Reina, Cech was consistent, but not to the standard of De Gea.

Although, most keepers that had their "90 Minutes of Fame" match against Liverpool could be in the running...

I think the Young Player of the year award is fair to give to Bale, although considering he won POTY I think it could easily have gone to Benteke or someone else.

If Suarez wasn't such an odd being, the POTY award would be his.

Gareth Bale

Eden Hazard

Jack Wilshere

Danny Welbeck

Romelu Lukaku

Christian Bentéké

For those wondering, that was the shortlist. Scary amount of Belgians...

The criteria for the award is 23 and under at the start of the season. What I have issue is not the age but those that are already established superstars shouldn't be in this award. It should be reserved for young players that broke out during the season. But rules are rules.

Nastasic, Rafael, Oscar would have been decent picks for nominations.

Side note:
Belgium players in EPL this season:

Mignolet
Kompany Vertonghen Vermaelen Boyata
Dembele Fellaini Hazard
Mirallas Lukaku Benteke

Almost a decent first 11.

Villa are blowing the relegation race wide open. If Wigan win their game in hand there'll be 5 points separating Fulham in 11th to Wigan in 18th with 3 to play. It really could be any of them, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was someone who'd had an alright season getting sucked in from nowhere, like Norwich.
