Does Cena not care about the WWE title?

Yes Cena the main who was screwed out of the WWE title last night comes out with a huge smile on his face and seems in a good mood.
Now if it was me I'd have a scowl on my face given that I'd just been screwed out of the most prestigious prize in the business in the ME of the biggest show in the business. This is not a new problem with Cena,remember after the 6 pack challenge when he said he was "happy" Orton won the belt?
Of course this is not Cenas fault he's told to perform in this manner.Just one of many reasons the belt is of little value in WWE these days.

I don't think he needs to be pissed to show he cares about the WWE title. He confronted the person who got involved in his "business" remember? If he didn't care then he wouldn't call out the Rock at all. Also if you look at his face when they shake hands the second time, you will see all of the intensity you wanted to. So in essence it makes perfect sense. His character is not really the one that whines and cries after a loss. He just picks himself up and moves on to the next opportunity.

This is one of the things that pisses me off about John Cena these days he acts just to damn comfortable in uncomfortable situation. He comes out like he just won the belt when in reality he got screwed, this is not how he use to be. The old John Cena would have been pissed & ready to whoop The Rock's ass but nooooooooooo not Hogan 2.0 John Cena he comes out like he just went on the perfect date w/a beautiful women. When he came out Monday me & my lil sister was like why does he seem happy he just got robbed out of being Champion again. Let that been Stonecold or HBK Rock had did in at Wrestlemania man all hell would have broke loose!!! I really dislike how they got him acting in the WWE. What happen to his aggression he acts like a big ass powder puff at times!!!

It's part of the problem I'm having with Cena.

On the one hand I can understand why he shrugs it off. He has been champion how often now? Somewhere between 8 and 12 times I'm sure. What's one more title win to him?

One the other hand, if Cena doesn't really care, why should the fans? All those 10 year olds are supposed to be outraged that their hero got screwed by the evil opportunistic Miz!

On top of that, how is Cena going about sticking it to the man who cost him the win? He amicably agrees to have a match NEXT YEAR. What the hell? What kind of lame gentleman-slap-with-a-glove gesture is this? Would Stone Cold in his prime make such an agreement with anyone if they pissed him off? At least he didn't invite him over for tea!

John Cena, this is wrestling (even if you don't call it that). For heaven's sake, SHOW SOME AGGRESSION! Be forceful! Make me believe that you want to tear your bastard opponent apart! Has there ever been a wrestler who was less hungry than Cena right now?

John Cena, there is such a thing as being too much of a class act:
Being a sport about getting screwed out of the title.
Congratulating the Miz, even though his win was a fluke.
Encouraging the fans to boo you if they want. (Although I admit I enjoy it when he does it.)
Having a church choir sing and pray before your match. (Was I the only one who almost threw up there?)

Cena's image is so damn baby-kissing squeaky clean, it's making me sick. Please, PLEASE, turn Cena heel already! I can't take babyface Cena anymore.

I think if the circumstances were different and the Rock was an active wrestler (yeah I said it) then the whole situation would've changed. Being that we know the Rock isn't gonna be around it is of no use for Cena to come down to the Ring and beat the rock from pillar to post with the ruthless agression we've been known to see from Cena. Now I don't know if Im a fan of Cena kissing babies and what not, but I have no problem with the way he is carrying himself. It's pretty much a lock that he's gonna get flack from someone no matter which way he went so I can only applaud him for staying the same as he's been.

Reading the above posts makes me think some people are confusing Cena (the man) with Cena (the character). I don't think Cena the man cares whether he's champion or not; he just wants to be a featured character.....and he is.

As for Cena the character, one thing that makes him stand out is that he's able to generate tremendous fan reaction (both positive and negative) with or without the title belt. Compare this to the Miz, for instance. Personally, I think Miz's character needs the belt......when he finally loses it, I think his character is going to lose a lot of steam. You can also use Sheamus as an example; when he was champion, his impact was immense, but since he lost it, the company turned a fearsome character into someone who loses to Evan Bourne. (You can say Sheamus is coming back strong now, but it sure seemed like a slap in the face when his WM match was removed from the live show).

John Cena transcends the title picture. He's going to be #1 whether he has the belt or not. I doubt he worries about it, one way or the other.

The moment The Rock made the match for Wrestlemania 28 I facepalmed,because I was thinking "Really?Cena's going to wait 360 days to get his hands on the guy who screwed him out of the WWE title?" I would agree that Cena's angle ever since the Rock got involved has been downright bizarre, but I wouldn't blame Cena. It's the way he and the Rock have been booked, and it just seems really ambiguous as to what it is supposed to make the fans feel. The Miz has been booked as a fairly straightforward heel, so why undermine Cena as a face by letting the Rock run him down like he has? I think this confusing booking is what led to a somewhat weak main event at Mania. And now with the WM 28 main event booked a year in advance . . . it just seems kind of short sighted. Like they're using the Rock as a desparate move to garner attention and make money now. I kind of feel bad for Cena, like he's being cheated out of his chance to lead the new generation into the future after being the top guy during the awkward transitional years.

Cena lately just comes across as too complacent, too clean, too classy.

This is not good for a wrestler, where you wish for a temper, an ego and aggression. You can't create tension with a guy who isn't hungry or driven at all.

I think he had the smile, because he was happy about what he wanted to get off his chest and be the big man and challenge the rock, get him out of the way and then back to the WWE title.. I wouldn't say he doesn't care about the title..

To some degree, I agree with the OP's point.

Firstly, I know that John Cena is at a level in his career where he doesn't need the WWE Championship to be a top guy. That's all well and good but if you find yourself feuding for the title, I think it's important to convey that you do care about the title. Cena usually does this very well. However, as has been mentioned, Cena got screwed out of the title at WM and he shouldn't be running around all happy and smiling and all this and that.

He just got screwed out of the biggest wrestling championship in existence at the biggest show of the year, so he should be royally pissed off. He should be grimly determined to get even with The Rock.

Cena does get a lot of unjustified hate in my opinion, but his reaction Monday night is one of the things about him that, sometimes, does rub me the wrong way. We get it that Cena's the family friendly, upbeat kinda hero but this is a situation in which I think he should've been more serious and and showed some angry intensity.

Cena will be a main eventer no matter what, it's time someone else got the wwe title spotlight. Guys like TheMiz need the title to be relevant, and Cena understands this more than anyone else.

I personally don't think that the WWE belt should take a backseat because it is ruby red slippers for all of the superstars and such, but Cena's a different case. I guess I see it differently. Since the Nexus thing, Cena shifted from the WWE Champion to the "defender" of the WWE. And to be honest, I love it.

I think he proved last year with the Barrett stuff that he can be just as compelling to his fan base without holding the title as he while holding it. He is probably the only top star in their prime and/or not injured the WWE has ever had that went more than a month without even being mentioned in the same sentence as the main title. Not saying Hogan or Austin were not any less popular when they did have the title, but you never know.. lol

Cena was most likely laughing the other night because he was getting booed during his entrance. He always seems to smile when the Cena sucks chants happen.

Also.....why is everyone complaining about waiting a dang year? Don't you realize what happens in a year? THE ROCK WRESTLES! Isn't that what people have been wanting to have happen for awhile? The Rock vs John Cena. Comparable to Rock vs Hogan. That match HAS to happen at Mania. You expect them to wrestle at "extreme rules"? or....."Fatal Four Way"?

Besides, we get a whole year of build up for that. The Rock will obviously go around on tv shows and such and will most likely mention it here and there and it will garner media attention, meanwhile Cena will be doing whatever he's about to do probably continue to feud with Miz and I bet his match with Rock will get mentioned alot as time gos on. Plus, you know you will see The Rock show up on a few Raws and him and Cena will have way more altercations.

You all wished and hoped for The Rock to have another match, and now that its set in stone you wanna cry because you cant wait a year. You dont even know what they have in store.

Anyone who doesn't have a problem with Cena laughing everything off doesn't get it. If Cena doesn't care why should the audience care? I want to make a couple points here.


First, some guys become "bigger" than the WWE Championship. It doesn't mean that they don't respect the belt or its history. What it means is that when a superstar gets so over to the point of Undertaker, Triple H, Cena, etc. they don't need the title to have a storyline, feud, etc. They the main event in and of themselves.

HBK vs. Undertaker was the main event of Wrestlemania last 26. Triple H vs. Undertaker would have been the main event if it wasn't for the Rock/Cena feud. My point is, these guys have created characters so big that the championship really doesn't mean anything one way or the other, for the character (not the actual person).

I don't like Cena but the fact is, he's bigger than the belt.


My second main point is that this could be the start of a Cena heel turn. Maybe they are going to make him careless and make him turn heel by saying he's doing it all for money and he suckered in all the fans and he doesn't care at all about winning the belt.

Here's something that hasn't been brought up yet: Cena's character believes the Rock is leaving after Wrestlemania. If Cena comes out on Monday and acts all pissy and moans about how the Rock screwed him and goes all ruthless aggression on the Rock...that isn't t he best way to get what he wants which is the match.

So he comes out and acts much smaller. He's smiling, he's relatively quite (for Cena anyway), and baits the rock out from the back, and baits him into the match, but not by being aggressive or being insulting. But by playing into the Rock's ego. Once he gets what he wants, you see his face turn hard and the aggression starts to show.
