MAMACITA!!!!!!
If this has been done or is in the wrong section, my apologies...

Does anybody remember the liontamer?

One of the most efficent moves in the Bizz, many have used it in different variations but I've always found Jericho's to be the superior one.

Now that was a while ago, the liontamer?? He hasn't called it that in years, and further more, thruought the years, he's reinvented it himself, and sometimes not good.

What's the deal with sometimes him not even really sitting down and putting that "soul" into it and crank it back like Stu taught him.

My question is, how do you feel about the way he uses the move?

Now that's in the sense of, do you think it gets "cheapened" by not selling right on Jericho's part?

I loved it when he used to really get into it and crank back, putting the knee in the back of the neck. That's the liontamer, arched up and almost in a standing position, more pressure to the neck.

Its just sometimes when he does it, it looks like a bootleg boston crab. No finesse, sometimes no nothing. It just looks so sloppy occasionaly.

Watching raw right now and he definitly applied it good, sitting on the lower back, but that's not the liontamer.

Can he go back to using that version? Is it seen as "too violent" of a move for the general audience? I mean look @ DB. I'm just saying, it looks like he's going to break a neck or 2 while he does that. And why did he even switch it up on us anyway?

Was he told to change the way he applies the move?

Just so many questions I can ask.

What's your thoughts?

I think boils down to individuals that can take the Liontamer (and possibly ask for it), and individuals that can't take the Liontamer. I remember he gave the Liontamer to Daniel Bryan and Justin Gabriel in season 1 of NXT. Maybe it was a form of "light" hazing, too.

The main-event wrestlers such as John Cena, Triple H, The Undertaker, and Shawn Michaels prior to WrestleMania probably shouldn't risks their necks for a submission hold, hence the Boston Crab-like move.

The Liontamer was a much better move than the Walls of jericho. He'd have the wrestler on his neck with his body str8 up. Much more painful which most likely why vince won't let him use it. It looked alot better as well:banghead:

I'm pretty sure he still uses it to this day, only VERY rarely. Being more dangerous than the Walls of Jericho and undoubtedly due to the PG-13 rating, Jericho can probably only use it once every so often in a big match.

I dont think the casual/young fan really knows what the lion tamer is, so when they see it, they probably assume its just the Walls of Jericho.

Me personally, I much prefer the Lion Tamer variation ,it looks much more painful on the neck, and the Walls of Jericho sometimes looks a bit sloppy and not even painful when its put on in a more "Boston Crab" style

Correct me if Im wrong, but Jericho stated the move was better suited for the cruiserweights of WCW and when he came over to WWE with larger athletes, the move was harder to sustain

MPM is right. He wrote that about not using the Lion Tamer in the WWF due to having larger opponents. BTW, but the Undisputed book by Jericho. Good stuff!!!

Yes the Lion Tamer was a much more imposing looking move than the Walls, no question about it.

exactly.. i believe his quote was

"If I tried to put it on Kane or HHH or the Big show... Those guys just don't bend that way"

so he instead just puts them in a boston crab which is decent enough..

It's a situational type of thing. He rarely pulls out the Lionsault either. His moveset evolved as he grew as a performer and some moves got thrust out of the spotlight. If he's with the right guy and the moment calls for it, he still pulls it out. It's just a matter of when it's appropriate to use the move. You wouldn't want to use it in a basic match, a big match would probably call for it more, or maybe you're working with a more versatile worker so you can pull it out. It's not that he doesn't use it anymore, he just uses it wisely and at the right times.
