Do You Still Watch the old PPV's?

Occasional Pre-Show
Growing up I was a fiend for the WWF VHS'. My local Schnucks grocery store had basically every Pay Per View from Wrestlemania 1 on up. Im talking Summerslam, Survivor Series, and Royal Rumbles as well. I was 8 in 1994. 18 years later we are in an era where I can basically download every one of these pay per views and burn them onto DVD. It was easy to find Wrestlemania 3-10. It was a lot more difficult to find the Rumbles and the Summerslams and the only Survivor series I could find in full was 1990(the best one). I am big on Nostalgia so I've printed out the VHS covers front and back(google image) and I slide them into DVD cases. The cases look great and sitting in my dvd collection they look freaking real(only with the old school VHS designs which is the best part)

I was into the WWE on up through the attitude ERA. Couldn't have been more into it, but had forgotten about the Golden era until about a year ago. I started watching Macho Man promo's on youtube after he died, and they had my friends and I in stitches..

Now for about the last 3 months, old school WWE pay per views are part of my late night viewing schedule.

I've got Rumbles 1990-93. Summerslam 1988-1992(love these). Wrestlemania III-X. (III-VIII) are as good as it gets.

Who here still gets excited to sit down and watch an old PPV. Do you watch them on VHS? I know WWE has released Summerslam, Rumble, and Wrestlemania anthologies on DVD but they are pretty expensive to purchase these days because they are kind of rare.

Does anyone still watch the old Coliseum videos that aren't PPV's? What are your favorites? I've also got my hands on about 5 MSG house shows from 1990-1991. One has Piper vs Flair in Flair's first WWF match. Another has Hogan Flair as the main event. Another has Macho Warrior steel cage. One I burned off youtube that has a Dibiase vs Bret Hart match I believe.

These pay per views hold up very well in my opinion because they are so dang funny. Heenan. Flair, Heenan's and Perfect's interview after the 1992 rumble is a perfect example. You can watch a great wrestling match and then next thing you know you are laughing out loud at perfect and Heenan saying "we hate to say we told ya so buuut...WE TOLD YA SO" Anyone who hasn't watched these pay per views in years like I hadn't should give it a shot. A lot of priceless stuff to be seen..

Over the years I have beenbuilding up my collection and now can say I have all the big 4WWE ppv's on dvd.

Just yesterday I popped in the 1990 Survivor Series. Overall it was a decent card. I ejoyed the opening match between Warrior's and Perfect's team, the match between Robert's and Martel's team, Takers debut, and the match between Hogan and Erthquake's team. Macho Man also had a nice promo on the Warrior (didn't realize they started that fued that early). The event is most known for the Goobly Gooker which was just awful, and while the concept of the ultimate survivor seemed interesting, it really didn't do much for me.

Warrior had a white strap world title at the event which was just all kinds of cool.

Yea survivor series 1990 is pretty darn cool. I've been wanting to watch 89 because I hear Macho Man and Rude's team both win as heels. WWE doesn't sell this on DVD I don't believe though and I can't find it anywhere on the net.

Sometimes I do go back and pop in a DVD to Relive, Rewrite and Redefine these classics. I mean, what would be the point in buying these DVDs if not to watch them again.

I recently sat through the Invasion angle and it still makes me think “What If!?” There were so many things I would have done differently and I add or subtract some things every time I watch it.

I have a few others, like the WrestleMania Anthology, the Night Of Champions collection, a few TNA PPVs (specifically, Victory Road 2007, Hard Justice 2007, and No Surrender 2007), as well as a couple of random ones.

I must say though, I don’t watch them as much as the documentaries I have.

With all the older stuff like 89 survivo series you have 2 options. Either get the WWE anthology sets which have all the old Mania's, SummerSlams, Rumble's and Survivor Series, or try and find them on line and burn it.

I started watching wrestling in 2001 when I was 9. So every weekend I was in my local Block Buster or Hollywood Video grabbing every Pay-Per-View VHS I could carry to the counter because I just wanted to know everything. Most were from 1998-2000, but they had some early 90's ones as well. I actually never returned the SummerSlam 1991 VHS. Still got it. Hart vs Perfect was just too good.

Now days I frequently watch Pay-Views from 2002-2004 that I have on DVD. Going back and reliving your favorite matches and childhood memories are one of the best parts about being a wrestling fan.

I watch my dvds all the time. Some I just love so much I keep going back to. Backlash 2007, SummerSlam 2005, WM 22, 23,24, and 17, Unforgiven 2006(fav), MIB 2011, No way out 2001, SummerSlam 1992, and the Rumble 2005. I hope one day if I have kids I can watch them with them that would be great.

I have the full set of WM anthologies, as well as the first two summerslam and Survivor series ones. When I am bored and just chilling, I often pop in one of the old shows to watch, takes me back to when I was a kid. Last night, all my regular Wednesday shows were repeats so I popped in SummerSlam 93. I miss the days when the shows were about the in ring action instead of the backstage crap and comedy skits. I recently rewateched WM7...it featured 14 matches, in 3 hours. Now, Mania is 4 hours, usually only has about 8 or 9 matches and at least two of them last less than 7 minutes. The rest of the show is taken up by meaningless garbage. I will gladly watch the old shows, where even though there were some ridiculous gimmics to stomach, the show was about wrestling.

Yes I do. I miss the King of the Rinds and the traditional Survivor Series Matches. I do watch the others but I watch more of the other two the most. I do like the old HITC and the Armageddon matches.

Watching Wrestlemania III now. I have seen it a few times but I have never been huge on the undercard because it is just a little too old school. Watching last night and today I can def see why everyone praises it. I am finally to the Macho Man vs Steamboat match and both entrances were just great. Macho is my favorite ever but Steamboat is BADASS here. Macho's promo was beyond hilarious before the match.

Roddy Piper vs Adonis was pretty fun to watch. Adonis is a guy I barely remember but Piper is top 5 for me. His energy is always a treat.

I also didn't know that Barber and Hammer were a tag team back then. Love it.

Bulldogs vs Hart foundation and Danny Davis wasn't too shabby.

The atmosphere of this show is obviously unparalleled. I can see why everyone says this is their favorite pay per view ever. Though it is not mine personally, it might just be when WWE was at their flat out pinnacle.

YES.

I didn't know there was a survivor series anthology. I am going to have to get my hands on that! I love WM7 though. I love the cards where there are great matches top to bottom. There might be one uninteresting match on that card, if that.

Of course I still watch them! I own mostly collection dvds WWE has put out over the years and a few Wrestlemania ones as well. I usually watch the stuff they put on Netflix, I'm a big fan of the WCW, WCCW, ECW, and AWA retrospectives they have put out too. That stuff is the best. Mostly I will watch the old ppvs on the internet now unless there is a good dvd or blu ray like the newer WMs or stuff like the CM Punk documentary, the Steve Austin one, and Bret/Shawn rivalry.

i love the classic payperviews those are my fave on my computer i have every in your house, survivor series, summerslam, and wrestlemania, plus i have every single wcw payperview. i love them all

I still buy them if I can find some for cheap, now that HMV in Ireland closed down though it's a lot harder so I use Amazon now, or if something I want is too dear on that, I just download it, just yesterday i watched One Night Stand from 2006, Terry Funk, Dreamer and Beulah McGillicutty vs Edge, Mick Foley and Lite was brilliant! Love watching old PPV's from years ago!

There's nothing better than watching old ppv's. My childhood was centered around wrestling...and nothing makes me feel like a kid again than watching 1988-1992 WWF PPVs.

Hollywood video was my favorite place. I remember going to the special interest section and seeing dozens of VHS tapes....back then in their clear plastic containers. Even if I had seen them....me and my buddies would try and get our parents to let us rent them again.

Great times. No year was better than 1990..

They never complete the Survivor Series anthology. They released them up until 96.

There isn't a better source of nostalgia than watching old PPV's! Got a big ol VHS box next to my TV with many old WWE/F PPV's in them

When i'm feeling down or "too grown up" I pop one in and take a shower in nostalgia.

I only have two sets of Survivor Series, I never saw it as a full box set with 4 of them, like they did with Mania and SummerSlam. The first one covers 87-91 and the second 92-96. I've never seen the other two if they exist.

I love watching old PPVs. I've got all the anthology sets. Does anyone know where to download some of the old NWA/WCW shows? I'm looking mostly for the Starrcades from the late 80s and Chi town Rumble.

I am actually in the process of watching all the Summerslams. My wife got me the full anthology for Valentine's Day. The down side to these sets are the fact that WWF is blurred out and it is edited out when they say it. It doesn't really bother me that much anyway. I love to pop in an old ppv after work at night. It kinda brings me back to my kid days. I love Golden Era ppvs the most. I will probably still be watching the same ppvs when I am 80.

I rarely watch entire ppv's, but I watch old individual matches on a daily basis. With a vast collection of footage on youtube and dailymotion as well I like to follow a wrestlers career beginning to end watching all their biggest matches in order.

The Randy Savage 3 part series is great, just finished that.
I also recently watched every WWE title change, and then went through WCW.

Yea the Summerslam PPV's are really entertaining in my opinion. Had a great time watching 88-91 and of course 92 pretty much loved by everyone..

I have a good amount of VHS tapes of stuff that I've bought or taped from Pay-Per-View orders. I ordered quite a few over the years or copied tapes from friends that bought it.

If I go looking for downloads of older Attitude Era shows, I try to find original footage versions pre-WWE branding. The "F" blurring pisses me off to no end and detracts from the experience. For any DVD's I buy, I like to get collections of early WWF or non-WWF stuff like the Starrcade and AWA documentaries that come with matches. Single matches is what I'm getting at. There's usually matches I like from shows that weren't overall great or I just had less interest in.

- Starrcade '83 wasn't on PPV but that's one I like to watch for the Piper/Valentine Dog Collar match.

- WrestleMania X for the HBK/Razor Ladder Match (was actually at SummerSlam '95 for their second one, it wasn't as spectacular even in person).

- WrestleMania 13 for the Hart/Austin match, I love that one. It was brutal as hell.

- King of the Ring '98 for the HIAC match with Taker/Mankind. I was at that one too, sitting at a direct angle to Foley's huge bump from the top.

What he said. Although ill take 1992 and 1988 as my top years.

I prefer Summerslam 1992 over any. I must have watched Bret/Bulldog 50x. This match should be a requirement for pro wrestlers to watch.

Old school survivor series were the best too.

Any WM ill watch once in awhile.

Watching Survivor Series 1989 right now for the first time in almost two decades. Barely remember it. The promo's to start were great. About 30 wrestlers with one line each saying what they were thankful for. Rick Rude was thankful for his Ravishing good looks etc..

Love this time period. Warrior has the IC belt and Hogan has the championship belt he won from Macho Man who is now full out heel mode. Honky Tonk, The model, Bad News Brown, and Boss man vs Brutus, Tito, Rooster and Dusty Rhodes. Probably one of the worst matches on the card but sure to be entertaining as hell!

Quality is a little blurry on this version I got but it is just barely worse than VHS.

HAHA Rooster is doin a little Rooster dance on the ring apron before the match even starts. Damn I didn't know he was so funny. Pretty sure I am going for the Heels here with Slick and Jimmy Hart as the managers. Too great.

The Chicago crowd is freaking great during this first match as well.
