Divas/Cruiserweights to their respective corners please...

The 1-2-3 Killam

Mid-Card Championship Winner
Remember the days when all the cruiserweights would compete for their title on Smackdown, and all the divas would compete for their title on Raw? I know, there were a mixture of both on both shows, but overall we got divas action on Raw and cruiserweight action on Smackdown. I personally think this was a better time in wrestling, and if they went back to that formula, it would really improve the state of both divisions.

Cruiserweights: Bring back the title, and send Evan Bourne over to Smackdown. That's the show with the most flashy action anyway, and it would give a lot of guys something to do.

Divas: There are two divas titles, and nobody gives a crap about either title picture. Make the Women's title the only divas championship, and send them all to Raw to fight for it. The issue now is that all your good talent is spread around, and you don't get intriguing stories or matches any longer. You have Maryse, Beth Phoenix, Michelle McCool, Gail Kim, Layla, Natalya, and Melina (if she ever returns and stays healthy). Those are, in my opinion, the most talented divas the WWE has to work with, and they should be working programs together for one title. Now, they dont' have to all be at the same time. Maryse is with Ted DiBiase, the Belle Twins are joking around with the guest hosts, and that could leave us with a good 3 or 4 way feud. I'm not saying it's a perfect formula, but I would much rather see all of the good divas in one place putting on good matches, rather than spread out putting on mediocre matches.

Your thoughts?

I don't think there's a need to bring back the Cruiserweight championship in any way, the majority of those people that used to compete in there is either a little bit too fat, or a little bit too high on the card now.

We used to see great wrestlers (mostly in WCW) competing for the Cruiserweight championship, but a guy like Chris Jericho is above the Cruiserweight, Eddie and Benoit isn't around to compete for them, and right now theres only 3 I could see competing for it: Evan Bourne, Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero, maybe Tyson Kidd, Justin Gabriel and Yoshi Tatsu as well, that is not a lot to create a proper division if you ask me.

And even with that in mind, the majority of those people are doing stuff. Rey is champion, Evan Bourne is getting a push, which would put him above the Cruiserweight division, Tyson Kidd is tag team champion, and Justin Gabriel is with The Nexus, that leaves 2 people, on separate brands to feud, not interesting I would say.

And the divas division doesn't really need to have the championships merged, there's too many divas getting air time right now to merge the championships and have the proper amount of contenders to carry proper feuds through it.

And let's be realistic, we don't want to see diva feuds that would clash in a non title match, because we don't have the talent like we did back then to carry that kind of interest in a feud, like Stacy Keibler, Trish Stratus and Lita could back then.

And even if they did merge the championships, I do not see how it would ever function in terms of gathering interest to the division again, the talent is still lacklusters, the matches are still lacklusters, it has been flourishing as of late as I noted in the diva thread, but it is not enough to put focus on one championship belt again.

The Cruiserweight title will only pigeonhole the smaller wrestlers again. Would Bourne be getting the push he's getting at the moment? Probably not as big. They're trying to push smaller wrestlers so we can get used to them in the main event and this will just be a major step in the wrong direction.

Casual fans suck. They're the only reason there is eye-candy. Well, also WWE wrestling fans who don't know about the women in the indies or care for actual women wrestling, but they're wrestling fans nonetheless. Yeah, they COULD move all the Divas to the Raw brand and have one title, but it doesn't mean feuds will be any better if the wrestling is lackluster. I don't really care for Divas, but I would love to see Cheerleader Melissa wrestle on tv instead of working the indies. Until the WWE actually cares for women wrestling and hire female wrestlers, the Divas division will never be anything great. It's a niche market, and that's NOT what the WWE cater to.

Seeing as I don't see them doing that though it is a good idea I think they should at least bring the Cruiserweight title and have it be defended on Superstars I think that could showcase some good young talent while not making it brand exclusive

Prince Punk, made a suggestion that only have the cruiserweight title on Superstars...wouldn't make sense, there was a thread a few weeks ago, about having the TV title and defending it on Superstars, it just wouldn't work..it would be likes it own brand...nd not very good..

WWE hav ran outta cruiserwights and some of them are doing better things..e.g. Evan Bourne...and the womens division, just having all the women on raw, are you mad, why can't smackdown have any??

We don't need a Cruiserweight Title anymore...

Remember the last thing before it ended? It was this hideously stupid storyline of Hornswoggle running from Jamie Noble and Shannon Moore, all three being used TERRIBLY, and it ended up just being another failed attempt to present comedy for Hornswoggle, which always fails. Like everyone else has said, every single "Cruiserweight" the WWE has is doing bigger and better things, with the exception of two people, and it would just make the 'E an even bigger clusterfuck than it already is, because one man would be in a feud and still trying to get the Cruiserweight title, and the other would be trying to feud with the challenger. It would ruin storylines, matches, and shows.

The Diva's division is dead. Not much more I can say than that.

The WWE has enough titles as it is. There's no need to bring back the cruiserweight title. Guys like Primo, Bourne, and Yoshi would just get lost in the shuffle. It would be cool to see some of the spot filled matches they would put on, but I find it hard to believe WWE would try and put too much focus on a cruiserweight title. Also, there's a possibility that WWE could put the title on Hornswoggle again:suspic:

I think having the Divas spread out on two brands is a much better idea than jamming them all into one. If all of the Divas were on Raw, then we might not get a chance to see proper feuds. Everything would be rushed. The Divas won't have any time to shine if they are all on one brand. Michelle McCool and Layla are the top females on Smackdown, and Alicia Fox is the top Diva on Raw. Imagine if they were clustered into one brand? It would be chaos, and someone is bound to lose a significant amount of TV time. Besides, it's not like too many people care about women's wrestling in WWE these days, so I doubt the fans would get excited about all of the Divas going for one title.

Oh crap, I forgot about Hornswaggle...well, as long as he's around, I say keep the belt as far away from the WWE as possible... It's better to have no title than to have Hornswaggle as champion.. :)

I think this is probably the best time for WWE to redo the CW division. They have guys like Primo, Bourne, Kidd, Yoshi, Beretta and Croft, Gabriel, etc. The problem with WWE is that in order for the division to be successful, WWE would have to take the division seriously. And thats where WWE will fail at. WWE has never, ever taken their lightweight divisions seriously. I could see WWE hotshoting any CW division and throwing the belt on one of the comedy guys like Santino or Hornswoggle because they think it will make the fans care about the division, and it will just ruin it in the long run. Until WWE really respects the work of these guys, and focuses less on their ability to draw little kids in, the CW division will never work.

I agree with the OP only partially in this. Allow me to explain:

I think it's pointless to argue for the reinstatement of the cruserweight title. The fact is that the company doesn't want to deal with it and at its end, even the fans treated it like a step below the women's championship. This was largely because of the way it was defended later in its time at the WWE in huge "time saving" mass matches. I think that if it were brought back it would not in any way get the respect it deserves.

However, I do agree that there should be only one women's singles title, and I think that the WWE has the perfect opportunity to make the diva's championship that one title. No, I'm not suggesting that they retire the women's championship, but given that they now have co-champions, I say they should transform it into the new women's tag team championship. After all, the majority of diva matches are tag-team anyway (again to save time on matches that WWE creative doesn't much care about.) So it only makes sense to have a championship in circulation. As I recall, the last time the WWE had a women's tag-team championship, it had only four champion teams to its name and was promptly forgotten about, but perhaps with TNA's knockout tag-team championship in circulation, the WWE is thinking of trying again.
