The title says it all.The choice is really tuff. For me it was stone cold stunning vince for the first time. After seeing that for the first time just words came out of my mouth ho$y sh$t.So what u thing was the defining moment of attitude era.

Well you can thump your bible, and say your john 3:16s...well Austin 3:16 says I just kicked your ass!"

I think this statement (not 100% acurate, I know) was the defining moment. For me this is where it really started. Austin declares war on the locker room stating that 'he's fixin' to start at the bottom n run right through every damn one of 'em' (more or less).

Stone Cold Steve Austin. All Attitude. All The Time.

For me, the defining moment of the Attitude Era was when Stone Cold drove the zamboni into the arena, jumped off of it, and clotheslined Vince McMahon in the ring. That arena went absolutely nuts (I believe it was the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit). Austin was in handcuffs and still going after McMahon. The whole segment was great, especially the aftermath where Kane and Undertaker beat the ever-loving **** out of Vince McMahon. It was in that moment when Raw epitomized its unpredictable, whacked out style of entertainment. To this day, it is one of my favorite wrestling moments in terms of pure entertainment and exactly what I think of as the defining moment of the Attitude era.

Interesting idea. There are ton to choose from. For me it would have to be Mankind's first world title win. This was a moment where everyone who had a role to play came out and played it. Vince and the Corporation were determined to keep The Rock as Coroprate Champion while DX wanted Mankind as champ and of course Austin wasn't exactly happy with Vince or Rocky at the time either so he wopuld do all that was in his power to unseat him. Thsiw as Attitude Era, booking, events and wrestling to a T. Nothing flashy but importnat brawling. Also Michael Cole had his finest hour here. And of course there's the famous 'Foley put my ass in this seat' situation on top of that.

Long time reader and first time poster here,

For me its hard to pinpoint one off moments that defined the attitude era, I think its best defined by the moments that happened week in week out but didn't get stale. Like when the Outlaws music hits and Road Dogg starts the intro or Godfather's out with the ho's or the Hardcore title is changing hands.

But Austin-McMahon defined the era, both the zamboni and the hosing down have been mentioned, both defining moments but i'd go for McMahon 3:16 says i just pissed my pants.

I get what ur saying dude but the statement goes like this. "You Thump your bible and you say your prayers and it didn't get you anywhere. You talk about your plams talk about John 3:16......Austin 3:16 say i just whipped your ass" I think that there are 3 that was the defining moments in the attitude era,
1. Austin winning the king of the ring and saying what i just said above, that showed that there would be a changing of the guard sooner or later
2. Austin vs. McMahon- Stone Cold was doing what every blue-collar man wanted to do beat the shit out of his boss and he did it for 8 weeks straight i believe like filling mcmahon's car full of cement, paging doctor Austin (which is my personal favorite and it always that hospital visit also started another career for a wrestler, mr. socko) and countless others that was great t.v.
3. Austin winning the title at Wrestle Mania 14- that was what everybody was Shawn's Last Match and both guys gave it there all and put on a five star match. It also say Iron Mike Tyson knock out HBK and it started the Austin Era and i will never forget JR screaming Stone Cold at the end

Having Mike Tyson, the "baddest man on the planet" on RAW and Stone Cold giving him the finger. When I saw that happen (for that matter, anytime I watch it even today), I was like, "Oh man, shit is GONNA GO DOWN!!!"

That reminds me, I'm gonna go watch it again right now!!!

Everyone pretty much covered every key moment of the Era. But I have to agree with SCSA Austin 3:16 promo after KOR. For someone to take one of the most famous verse in the bible and flip the attitude on it....Priceless. Thats the one sticks out. But when thinking about the Era, you can't forget about Dwayne.

Im gone flip mthe script on this post all those moments were good but it was one moment that was the seed to all that shit takin place Pause THE KLIQS CURTAIN CALL AT MSG. Think about it Hall N Nash leave n hekp create a juggernaut Trips takes the punishment n does not win the KOTR that yr but who did Austin n 3:16 was born so there u have it the best defining moment nobody thought of.

I would have to say Stone Cold vs. The Rock at Wrestlemania 15. The whole buildup to that from Survivor Series 98 to Wrestlemania 15 in 1999. That built up Stone Cold and the Rock, it had their match at Wrestlemania, Mankind winning the title, Vince vs Stone Cold at St. Valentines Day Massacre, DX, ETC.

When i think "attidtude era", i think SCSA. and when i think SCSA, i think of the beer truck. When drove the 18 wheeler down the ramp and soaked VKM, shane, and the rock with beer. just unbelievable. That is just the definition of attitude and the attitude era. i cant think of anything else it could be besides this.

i would prob have to say taker hanging austin from the crucifix cause it was mad controversial and it was the 1st time anyone saw somethin like that in wwf

well the start was stone cold wining the title from shawn, and the end was stone cold beating the rock for the title. the defining moment, hmm, that is a hard one, makin me think a lot, i would have to say it would be the beer truck that is truly i think the most classic moment of the era, was prb the coolest thing on tv ever, it really showed that there was attitude, and we want that back, bring the beer and the blood.

WOW! This is a hard thing to think about because there are so many fantastic moments when it comes to what I believe to be the greatest time in wrestling history. So.....I gotta do my top three!

3: Rock "This is Your Life": That's right, I started out my list with an item that is not SCSA. This is the highest rated segment in Raw History, and it is not without a good reason. Inventive, Creative, and downright Hilarious this segment made The Rock an even bigger star than he already was, and it solidified the Rock and Sock Connection as a force to be reckoned with in the land of entertainment. Yeah, I love this segment, and whenever I am in the need for a good laugh I always hop on and watch this on youtube.

2: DX invades WCW: Talk about firing back, huh? This segment not only helped WWE pull even further away from WCW, but it showed WCW for the idiots that they truly are. Giving away free tickets? Closing up the arena when DX tried to drive in? Seriously? What better way to get Nitro back on top of the mountain than to have a true WWE invasion on your show. Seriously, if you saw DX in a tank on Nitro would you turn off your TV? HELL NO! I would love it, and I would damn sure tune in the next week to see what the hell Nitro would come up with next. WCW dropped the ball on this one, and WWE just kept running with it.

1: The Entire episode of RAW with the first meeting between Austin and McMahon: If I am not mistaken, this is the episode where WWE finally beat WCW in the main event time slot (10:50-11:05) after months of losing out to them. Granted this is a small victory, but it was an important one in order to prove that "Hey, don't get cocky just yet WCW. We are still in this damn war." On top on that, the entire episode was awesome! Watching Patterson and Brisco try and teach McMahon some wrestling holds still makes me laugh. Too bad Dude Love had to go and ruin it all at the end. :P

Austin/Tyson.

That was such a huge segment. The way the whole segment played out was one of the most exciting things in the history of the WWE.

For me it would have to be the very first stunner Austin laid on Vince. That was a peak moment in WWE history and the cornerstone of the attitude era. Other moments for me involve Austin in some sort of way.

That was great....also don't forget the Michaels/Tyson staredown and then Tyson joining DX. The whole segment was great from DX cutting off Tyson, getting ready to brawl, and then ripping the shirt off to reveal the DX shirt. One of my all time favorite segments...and just another thing for Austin to overcome at Wrestlemania 14.

I have a couple.

1) It would definitely for me have to be DX mocking the Nation Of Domination. It appitimised everything that was the Attitude Era. HHH with the drawn on eyebrow, X-Pac as 'Mizark' Henry with 'pecs that go all the way around your back', Road Dogg as D-Lo Brown and of course Jason Sensation as the late, great Owen Hart. My favorite part would have to be 'And if there is anyone that can smell what the Rock is cookin', its me, look how damn big my nose is!!' Comedy genius.

2) It would have to be Survivor Series 98' (Deadly Game as far as I remember) when The Rock turned heel in the final match of the tournament when it looked like Mankind was the Corporate choice. And the Montreal ScrewJob finish had not been done prior to that so it was a nice touch then. And obviously they start The Rock's storyline with Stone Cold Steve Austin at the end of the PPV when Austin ran out and stunned The Rock.

Good times.

Austin/Tyson.

That was such a huge segment. The way the whole segment played out was one of the most exciting things in the history of the WWE.

Agreed

It also got news coverage all round the world and created massive year on year growth for Wrestlemania's buyrate.

I'd say there wasn't one that defined an era they're was a bunch that created the era.
You couldn't say one without an arguement for another 3 or 4.

The Attitude Era Officially started at King of the Ring 1996 with Austin's 316 speech, but the turning point was the MSG/Kliq deal, had that never of went down HHH would of won KOTR 96 as slated to, so Austin mightn't have won a KOTR had HHH of won the 1996 edition.

November 1996 Pillman-Austin gun showdown, that to me was the breaking of the glass ceiling, I consider Austin/Hart I (survivor series 96) to be the last of the classic old school type of matches, yet showed hints of the Attitude era style around the ring brawls, but the Pillman/Austin home invasion gun shot REALLY pushed the buttom that WWE was in for a radical change.

Survivor series 1997, screw job, people will probably argue that this isn't significant towards the Attitude era, Bret was old school, even his feuds had old school roots in them, DX was the new band, the band that broke rules, and pushed smut tv on fans, now DX were the reason people watched WWF back in 1997-98 because they were cool (more so the 98 version) pushed more limits as far as other wrestling promotions goes, but had Bret not have been screwed we'd never have had Mr Mcmahon characher and Austin/Vince.

Wrestlemania 14, This was the event I consider Attitude Era's greatest PPV, this was one of them wrestlemania's you really WANTED and HAD to watch previous Mania's had lacked that Wrestlemania feel but this one felt special and you had to be apart of it, plus the passing of the torch Austin/HBK.

Vince Buying WCW that for me was the end of the Attitude era, he not competition, and the product suffered, but they were the significant events that shaped the attitude era for me personally.

Honorable mentions, Summerslam 2000, Austin getting knocked over and the Hardcore title all contributed to the attitude era for me, summerslam had some classic matches, austin getting knocked over was pretty gnarly and unexpected for me anyways, and the Hardcore title WAS the belt to have in the 1998-2001 era, in 2002 it took a dive after Undertaker dropped it to Maven yes MAVEN.

Oh man there are so many. Here is a few:

1. Undertaker/Mankind Hell In a Cell Match- Brutal and one of the best HIAC matches ever.

2. Austin stuns McMahon for the first time-Started one of the biggest feuds ever

3. Austin being hanged by Undertaker on symbol- Very Controversial and never done before in the WWF.

4. Austin driving a beer truck in arena and soaking the McMahons and The Rock.

5. Austin driving a Zamboni into arena- like said before, awesome night and when he clothesline Vince, the crowd was electric.

6. TLC Matches with Dudleys, E & C, and Hardys- unbelievable matches that solidified a lot of these mens legacy's

7. This is Your Life segment- Highest rated segment ever. Very funny and very creative.

8. Undertaker/McMahon Rivalry/Ministry Era-Unholy wedding, sabotaging Vince, awesome feud.

9. Corporate Ministry- Not one of my favorites, should of kept the Ministry like it was, but nonetheless a major angle

10. Hanging of Bossman in the HIAC at WrestleMania XV.

11. Austin/Rock WrestleMania XV, and 17- One of the best feuds of all time, great chemistry, great matches.

12. D-X- One of the most controversial, charismatic, and entertaining factions ever.

13. Montreal Screw job

These are just a few defining moments. Its almost impossible to list them all. Good times, good times.
