Defending Khali's 2007 Title Reign

General consensus says that his world title reign was one of the worst ever. It wasn't even the worst that year. Batista's reign before WM 23 was terrible as was Edge's reign. I think it says something that Batista can have four great matches with Taker that year and have mediocre ones with Edge.

The majority of Batista's Summerslam matches have been terrible. Not something to put on Khali.

Besides, Khali only had Batista and Kane to work with and Kane wasn't exactly setting the world on fire.

I really enjoyed it. I actually didn't read spoilers back then and was surprised that he won the initial battle royal. Not the worst title reign ever but not the best.

True, but he worked with those guys due to their size and his inexperience. Khali was, and still is incapable of working a good, main-event worthy match with a smaller opponent. At least with Kane and Batista (and Undertaker before that) he could attempt to cover up his lack of talent with a standard "big man" match without a lot of actual wrestling.

Put him against someone smaller who couldn't do any moves on him due to his size, and the matches would have been even worse. Khali was appalling as champion, but it could have been even worse. Plus, he held the belt upside down when raising it above his head, that just set the tone for the reign of shit

Um.. His matches with The Undertaker, arguably one of the top 5 greatest entertainers in the business, were pretty abysmal. The fact that you would throw Batista and Edge under the bus is absurd. I don't really care much for Batista, but come on, Edge? Khali doesn't have 1/10 of the talent or ability that Edge had.

Khali is nowhere near what Edge was, but it's hard to compare wreslters with different styles and sizes.

Something about Khali just rubs me the wrong way. I'm generally not against big men - Big Show, Kane, Mark Henry and Yokozuna are all cool in my eyes. But Khali comes across as being lazy and talentless.

The Unforgiven match in whch he lost the title was entertaining, which means he's had one better championship match than some others have.

It wasn't a good reign, but it wasn't awful. I've seen worse from better wrestlers.
