Cutting Edge: Edge's Speech

Yes yes, we get it, the IWC loves heels. Move on already.

Not necessarily all heels, there's some pretty damn clean choices of guys that I would be shitting all over if they turned heel, a guy like Christian for example, love him as a face.

That segment was NOT a headline segment. Nothing really happened, the feud isn't for a title, and there's really no heat to it. The mic work by Edge was solid, but forgettable, and by that, I mean one year from now, no one will remember.

I agree, while I have to admit although I liked the segment, I still think Edge has put on far superior promos, his work in 2005-2006 when feuding with John Cena was by far superior, and the majority of his antics with Christian as E&C has been superior.

While I feel it was pretty okay, and the segment of the night without a doubt, I still think that there was something wrong with it seeing as it seemed like Edge had a problem actually getting over as a proper heel, he was getting half-hearted boo's here and there for those "clean" marks, and I think that kinda killed the segment when it all comes down to it.

In the end, the segment was more fitting for a segment BEFORE the main-event, not the main-event.

Without coming off as a TNA basher, I don't mind them, and I'm not a "WWE-shareholder / Vince McMahon Nutholder" or what ever TNA people call us WWE fans, but I still have to admit putting that segment as the main event segment, made more sense than any of the main event segments Hulk Hogan has put on in the past with TNA.

I was scrolling through this thread and read some interesting posts. Of all the ones I saw though, I have to agree with Slyfox, this segment was not worthy of ending the show. If anything this should have lead to the Cena match or something more important. I think the problem with the segment was the crowd. Most fans are younger children, and a lot of them are probably confused right now and don't know whether to cheer for him or to boo. He just came back and started a face run, which as Edge said wasn't working, and they instantly turned him heel. All the fans that were cheering him though, still see the same Edge as he was a few weeks ago, as do I, so it makes no sense to me.

I think some people are starting to understand Edge's frustration. His speech last night was epic and truly defined his position.

Edge came out tonight as a badass wanting to do what he wanted to do but not necessarily bad deeds. Whatever he was discussing earlier with the discussion of PG, I assume he was talking about a new entrance video but being restricted to certain footage. Nothing to deem heel here.

Then later he comes out and teases the crowd a bit. He relents and gives the crowd a very logical explanation. Edge has tried to appeal to people as a babyface. This is a clear fact during his face run which some may argue that hasn't been too successful. He states whatever he's tried to do, the whole crowd just can't get behind him while Orton, who's also a badass, has the crowd behind him and doesn't give a damn. I can understand behind Edge's character, it must be pretty frustrating. He's trying to be a face but not everyone appreciates him. You can't blame him for being a tad pissed off. He looks towards Orton and now feuds with him to understand the difference between Orton and him for an answer. Orton, not giving a damn, will feud with Edge for awhile until either he breaks his silence or just fights Edge until a turning point to the storyline.

Spearing Orton? Need to make a statement/impact. There is nothing too heelish about this move other than getting his attention. He sees Orton as his rival to what he's trying to achieve. However because Orton is pretty much close to top-face yet tweener, cause he does not intentionally appeal to the crowd and does his classic Orton moves like stomp-fest, some may regard this as a heel move which is understandable but the premise that Edge is trying to win some attention from the crowd should not mean he is a heel. He's more like the misunderstood tweener fighting against another tweener who has achieved what Edge wanted. Kids however may be a bit too young to understand the beauty of this rivalry and are stuck in a state of confusion but those who do understand are going to love this. However those who did understood it probably felt bad and just couldn't muster an apology or something.

If you want to talk heel, look at Miz and Jericho: whining, crying and talking smack about the "parasites". Edge is doing really none of that and neither is Orton.

Maybe there's 2 kinds of heels.

1) Jericho and Miz - immature

2) Edge and Orton - serious heel

Im happy Edge is "back". In his return after the Rumble he was like a face who didnt have much of a purpose. And he wasnt going over enough with the fans.

Now with his issue with Orton and him turning on Christian he seems to have his plate full. These two feuds should carry him well into Summerslam. I just hope he doesnt get injured again and everything goes to shit.

The one thing that might be a hint of him being a heel was when he said, "You people don't deserve an explanation" and then waited for dead silence. Then the only thing after that was, "The fans didn't catch on.." Nothing else made him come across as a heel and I think the fans were confused because he was just turned heel after being a face and to do it so fast made them go "We don't have a mind to cheer a guy then boo him in the same night" Also, I think they cheered at the RKO because they were pretty much getting tired of his speech. And because they like the RKO. OTher than that, I don't think anything has happened and the WWE wasted a main event for a segment that could have happened at the 1 hour mark.

i love the beauty behind this feud because it kind of breaks kayfabe in that it is addressing why Orton is a face now and why Edge tried to be a face...Edge as a face was forced and he tried to hard....Orton does wtf he wants when he wants and the ppl respect it....the rko is better than the spear especially with the viper mannerisms which are so f'n cool...

It was a very good promo to me, from the moment in which Wayne Brady came to the ring, to the moment Orton used the RKO on Edge, that segment make it worth for me to watch RAW from the beginning to the end.
