Could TNA Bring Back the Territories?

With TNA now branching out and starting up a branching promotion in India, along with getting their footing in Mexico with AAA and past experience with (I think) New Japan, could this be the start of a new territory era for TNA? And if so, do you think it could succeed?

I get that the territories in terms of Mid-West, Southern, Northern, and Western are nowhere to be seen nowadays, outside of the lower NWA places (and big ones like Anarchy and Hollywood)... but what if TNA strictly went with countries/continents like TNA-America, TNA-Mexico, TNA-Europe, TNA-India and did the territories that way.

Honestly, I believe that even though it would be hard to stop people from seeing "exclusive" names, it would still be a nice way for TNA to gain their own market and revamp the territories. I also don't think it would be too bad with modern day internet. I mean, the internet today is like the magazines and newspapers of the old days, only with better ways to communicate about it. So people could read all they wanted about new wrestlers, and when they finally make it to their territory, it would help them a lot.

The hardest problem could be gaining the funding for each promotion, along with title belts, but I think that if they had local big name promoters buy into their territory companies then it could work. It also wouldn't hurt if they did their shows similar to Impact and had them all taped in one location, that way traveling expenses wouldn't be too dire and out of hand.

Anyway, what are your opinions?

They really need to worry about the product they have b4 they bother spending money trying to reach more countries that will only generate dismal incomes aswell

I'm all for them bettering themselves but i just don't see enough changing for the better to warrant expanding. It's just throwing money away.

... What have you been smoking and why aren't you sharing? TNA isn't doing territories whatsoever. They're doing independent projects to create alternate cashflows. All Wheels Wrestling, the India project? MONEY. Money from television contracts, money from advertising, etc... Those working agreements with New Japan and AAA are just that. Working agreements to share some talent here and there. Nothing more.

The territories died nearly thirty years ago my man. There's nothing bringing them back anytime soon.

No. There's no real point to territories. They have their project in India because TNA itself can't get there (for some reason I'm unaware of). There's no point in making territories if Impact Wrestling is marketed everywhere.

With ROH not being as creatively worthwhile as before, not the bold new thing it was, I think TNA and ROH should band together under the NWA umbrella. Essentialy TNA could be NWA Nashville or NWA South, ROH could be NWA North East. Work a way so that 5 strong territory would work together to make each other stronger. But each one of them would have to have a tv deal. ROH and TNA has one. Others could get one maybe for the West around California. And in Canada, if the famous TOW promotion could get its act together and get one. Then yea there's the India thing, and the Brits like some of the TNA wrestlers. And you could bring back New Japan in a magor way into this new NWA alliance.

The advantage would be that you don't have to travel all over. TNA doesn't tour much but they could do it more often if it would be centered around the south mostly. Like say they would have a NWA Britain. These guys would have their own promotion yet NWA South(TNA) could lend them their stars like Sting, Flair, Bobby Roode and so forth.

I don't see where that helps tna unless they get royalities or something. All it would be doing is getting their stars on other people's programs.

Royalties + Exposure + Cheaper Expenses. It would be a better way for TNA to stay away from having to pay for tours when they can simply send someone off to another territory and build them up there. I mean, they can easily go the route NWA currently does with Showcase and Hollywood by having Impact be the premier show and then have minor territories buy in for royalties and the like.

The territory system, if revived in the right manner, can be done pretty well. In fact, other than NWA, there are quite a few affiliated/territorial style promotions around the globe that are making quite the profit off of such features. Why wouldn't TNA want to differentiate themselves from WWE and bring back the territories?

What I ment was, if their guys are used by company B, then company B will get the exposure of the talent helping them out, and the sales from the namesake and the like. Company A now has one of their talents profiting another company. I guess with royalities it makes sense, but I would see it hurting tna since other companies would profit off of their stars.

Though I can see the benefit in doing tours through another company, having the other company pay the expensives overseas and then tna making profits from royalities.

Perhaps I"m just not understanding (I had a stressfull day today) but I'm still not seeing all the profit in having terrortories, plus didn't the wwe make them obsoulte by destorying them?

No. That is not going to happen. The territory is a dead concept. wrestling has changed. Territories were only around because it was hard to reach a nationwide audience. Now with the internet it is easier than ever to be discovered. Good talent does not go undiscovered for long.

Nope nobody's bringing back the Territory system and they sure ain't doin it on a worldwide scale. The deals with Mexico and Japan are just working agreements to share talent not to run anything. The territory system's a concept that went the way of the dinosaur.

Actually, the fact that the Territories are dead is a myth. They may not be televised (although, they could be) but the territories are very much alive. NWA is still kicking and other territory systems are coming around.

AIWF - Link is one example that I can think of, other than NWA of course (which produced stars like Creed, Styles, and Adam Pearce).

And like I said, if TNA could get smaller indy promotions to sign on as territories and get a solid standing like NWA has had since forever, then they can easily bring in more money from around the world. Impact can still be the premier show and everything, and at the same time, they'd have more direct promotions/territories to pull from and bring to the main roster.

The Territory system became the "indies" which is representative of how wrestling is constantly changing and evolving. Wrestlers compete in independent promotions and work up to joining the WWE or TNA. Guys still go wrestle overseas in Japan or Europe. Could the indy promotions set up a similar talent borrowing system? Sure.
