Could The Miz be the next big thing?

Enigma

Pre-Show Stalwart
I'm starting to feel that The Miz could be the Rock of this generation.

He's been great on the mic as of late with this Cena feud. WWE are looking to push new stars, I think he has more than what it takes to be a great main eventer. I don't feel any separation from the heels in WWE, they all sound mostly the same. The Miz stands out, in my opinion.

I also just noticed his "I'm The Miz and I'm Awesome!" phase is similar to "Do Smell What The Rock Is Cookin?"

I personally think WWE would be blind not to push him into a main eventer soon.

If he changes his ring attire.

I don't know, he just looks kind of awkward.

Other than that, he's alright.

He reminds me a douchebag without the tan. Zack Ryder has that covered. I don't see him nowhere near what the Rock did with on the mic though. The Rock's promos are legendary and I seriously cannot see anyone lumping the Rock and Miz in the same league.

Maybe I just hate his facial expressions like he just ripped ass and hoped no one noticed. That's just me though.

I've said this for a long time you can even go back in the ecw section and find a thread I started almost 8 months ago mamby longer saying that the Miz is the next Rock, too tiered to pull the actual thread and I got competly humilated for posting it. I believed that then. Now I see it even more happening.

I too have been campaigning this for about a year now. How anybody can hate The Miz is so beyond me. He is so charismatic, his ring skills have come along farther in the last 2 years or so probably more than anybody's. I've been preaching this since the Miz has even been on all those MTV shows he was on. When I saw him on his season of The Real World, he talked about pro-wrestling and how that was his dream. He then did a bunch of those challenge shows and then disappeared for awhile and then showed up in the WWE. At first, I too was skeptical but after he was around for about 6 months, I realised this wasn't just some brilliant cross-promotion with the WWE and MTV. The Miz got into the business without any help from a relative, a friend, and what I think... everything going against him. The "Big Dog" of the WWE in JBL really had it out for the Miz and really did not like him. JBL was a guy who paid his dues and who I think was one of the best heel champions of all time. He was a veteran of the business and saw what we can only assume is some punk kid coming in trying to live off his 15 minutes of fame from MTV to the WWE. Thinking the Miz got some sort of free pass.

The next big thing? Maybe. I mean everybody bitches that the Miz doesn't have the talent or mic skills of the Rock or blah blah blah... but guess what? Not many people do. Not everyone can just storm into the business and take over like Lesnar, Angle, or Goldberg. You don't just automatically have that magical gimmick that works with your personality and great ring skills like Austin, Hogan, or The Rock. All those things take time. I said before I truly believe the Miz has about a 20% chance to hold the WWE title or WHC in his career. He's got the gift of gab, and his ring work improves by the month.

Long story short... The Miz is still with us today and you have to respect him for his dedicated work ethic. He couldn't have gotten this far without it. From the moment Mike Mizanin mentioned pro-wrestling on the Real World in NYC in front of super-hot dyke Coral almost 10 years ago...to today... The Miz is truly living out his dream and being someone who kinda feels like they watched him through the whole process (except for the developmental territories and such), I respect the Miz probably more than I should. You just can't hate on a guy who's truly living out his dream.

The Miz has a lot of potential. He needs a few things though that The Rock had.

1) Somewhere to get started(Rock had the Nation and IC belt to jump start his career)
A victory over Cena could suffice for this and get him credibility.

2)Really, really good promos that appeal to the fans and make them want to see the Miz. Even when The Rock did "Finally the Rock has come back too..." debating if he was a heel or a face he would trash the town or praise it. Miz needs something like this.

3)A backstage announcer to degrade(The Rock had Micheal Cole and Coach)

4) Good singles matches, this could be paired up with number one but The Miz needs to win some good matches to get started. If WWE is doing King of the Ring this year Miz winning would be a good way to jump start his success. Also a better finisher I'm really not impressed with Miz's. or possibly a follow up like The Rock did the People's Elbow.

5)Name his fans. The Rock has the people, Edge has the Edgeheads, Jericho has the Jericholics, Christian has the Peeps. Miz could do like the Mizfits.(not entirely sure if hes tried this but it could work)

I remember being forced to watch the real world with my girlfriend at the time and seeing The Miz persona on that unwatchable fucking show.
My hatred for that show ran so deep that I refused to like anything about Mike or his dream of becoming a pro wrestler. Even after he disappeared on reality TV and I thought i was rid of him at least. I still had to watch all of those awful fucking MTV reality shows, but at least I didnt have to sit through that yo-yo flapping his fucking gums, i thought.

Then Low and behold, the diva search comes around and out comes the Miz to host it and torture us all with unwatchable divas competition segments and bad jokes to go along with it. I knew he would be in the ring before long and I was dreading his arrival. I hated the man well into his first year as a active wrestler, MTV had blinded me to any potential this guy might have and I assumed, like JBL apparently did, that he rode his 15 minutes of reality fame into a deal with the WWE. This again made me want to do nothing but curse his image on my tv screen.

However, being a fan of wrestling for as long as I have and the appreciation I have for talent, regardless of whether I like a guy or not, I could only ignore the potential this man has for so long. His pairing with Morrison really showed me this guy is truly talented and very serious about his dream. His mic work is undeniable and his ring work seems to get better with every match.
I do not see him ever really reaching a Rock type status as some seem to see, but I think it's feesable for him to reach a Jericho level of heel.

I don't see him wearing a world title, but I definately see him heavily decorated in mid card gold for a long time to come. I am not ashamed to say I have become a fan of the Miz, he brings a sorely needed heel presence that rings fresh in this watered down "PG" era. I damn sure recognize his talent and I hope he flourishes.

I don't see him being the next Rock because he kinda has that "X-Pac heat", right now anyway. He's actually hated whereas The Rock was enjoyable even though he was a heel. Plus, Miz just doesn't have the WWE "look", he's much too small. If anyone's gonna be the next Rock, it's Mr. Kennedy. It will probally just be in TNA though.

TELL ME YOU ARE FUCKING KIDDING!???!??!!
there is no comparison between the miz and the rock
unless you wanna compare absolute shit (the miz) with greatness (the rock)
i rest my case
i could go on but im tired :2up:

Okay, I understand if you dont like the Miz and you clearly still swing from the rocks coin purse. But if you're not gonna make a valid point for you're statement, dont bother posting, just give the guy a negative rep and move on.

Personally I dont see how anyone who's knows anything about wrestling could view the Miz as absolute shit now. It's narrow minded and markish quite frankly, the guy has talent whether you like him or not. In fact his talent lies in his ability to make you loathe him so much.

See, in wrestling there are faces, aka good guys. and there are heels, aka bad guys. The more you cheer the good guys, the more they stick around and the same thing goes fo the heels with booing. Now maybe this is too highbrow of a concept for you, but this is in fact how the wrestling buisness works. Judging from the intellectual depth and effort in you're post, I suggest you go watch TNA. Thats a promotion that would cater much more to you're line of thought. Hell, the announcers will probably even be saying exactly what you are thinking.

Okay thats a nice, thick layer of sarcasm. Maybe i put too much effort into this post, but the one I am quoting above just annoyed me far too much to ignore, as I am in a fairly foul mood.

The Miz has gained a lot more muscle mass over the past few years. But one thing that I have noticed is he has what Edge had: passion. He's loved this business WAAAY before entering it. He was given the opportunity to take part in the business, and took it with all seriousness and is where he is today. He's improved tremendously over the past few years, and I can also honestly see him main eventing with Morrison at a Wrestlemania one year. However, usually who we pick as "The Next _______" ends up a big disappointment. So let's not label them as "the next _____" and just label them in a league of their own. Cus only the rock and can be the rock. Only hogan can be hogan. Only cena can be cena. and only austin can be austin. and if anyone tries to be HHH they are fired.

Several reasons, in my opinion, why The Miz will never EVERRRRRRRRR be the next Rock.

1. He doesn't have the look. The Rock looked like a champ, the Miz looks like a douchebag frat boy.
2. The Rock was exciting in the ring, The Miz while decent lacks the ability to ignite the crowd and would be hard pressed to work a main event match.
3. His name is 'The Miz'!
4. His 'catch phrase' is hardly original or clever, anyone can call themselves 'awesome'.
5. His promos aren't nearly as exciting as the Rock's were.

I'm not saying that the Miz couldn't be great, just not as great as the Rock. Go back and watch one of the Rock's matches and a promo of his. I doubt someone like the Miz could ever be on that level simply because I doubt anybody will be on that level ever again.
When surrounded by as much mediocrity as we are with the WWE at the moment, someone like the Miz seems awesome but he is not the saviour that so many of you tout him as, he is merely a rose growing through the weeds.
I DO think that with the right push the Miz could perhaps get to a higher level but in his current state, I doubt that the main event will be graced by his presence any time soon.

well i wouldn't say that the Miz is the next Rock. While he's pretty good on the mic and is okay in the ring. Not to be biased because im a fan of the Rock, but i don't think there is ever gonna be anyone who match up to the Rock's mic skills. I do think he will have success down the road within the mid card divison, but i couldn't see him being in the main event.

I for one Disagree with the notion that The Miz is any where near "great" or "awesome". The Rock has pimples that are cooler then he is. I agree with most of the people that say he needs new ring attire. And people who think he has charisma are in fact mistaking lack of shyness on the mike as charisma. He just likes to talk. This is one of those rare cases in which hating him is not applauding his heel status. I literally change the channel when he is on. The thing he does with his lips does look like he's farting or something. I dunno he may be trying too hard or something.
I would if anything like to see him back in the tag division and see no gold on him in the foreseeable future. If he were releases i would not miss him.

1. He doesn't have the look. The Rock looked like a champ, the Miz looks like a douchebag frat boy.

Many wrestlers develop unique gimmicks. The Miz has embraced the "douchebag frat boy" gimmick perfectly. It just fits The Miz. CM Punk is "hardcore straightedge", Kofi Kingston is the happy-go-lucky Jamaican, The Miz is the douchebag frat boy. His segment Monday night linking John Cena to Hannah Montana was gold!

I personally hate MTV and everything produced by MTV (except Beavis & Butt-head). I loathed Mike Mizanin in WWE for the longest time. He began to grow on me when he was teamed with John Morrison. Throughout his time with Morrison, Miz only got drastically better very quickly: ring skills, mic skills, and developing a great gimmick (being named PWI's Most Improved Wrestler for 2008). Not everyone has to look like a champ to be a champ. Plenty of wrestlers have held the gold who don't have the jacked champ look: Rey Mysterio and CM Punk come to mind (even though they weren't the best champs...). I truly hope The Miz can continue to develop his persona and ring skills. The only person that can stop The Miz is himself!

How could anyone hate The Miz? Because his gimmick is he's an ignorant douche-bag, and I hate ignorant douche-bags. Is he good at what he does? Absolutely. Does that mean he's the next Rock? Hell no. No one, and I repeat NO ONE is the next Rock, because if he is, he'll just be looked at as a Rock wannabe and not get over. There's one thing I've noticed: forum posters like to latch onto some midcard level talent that has little to no chance of ever headlining and then make a bunch of threads about how he is so awesome and should be world champ and beat the Undertaker's streak and unify every title in existance. Look, it's cool you like who you like, but just because you like someone doesn't mean he's going to be world champ, or even on the level as someone as the Rock.

Its kind of silly to put the Miz anywhere near the level of the Rock! Miz is ok. He actually has made me chuckle once in a while. But the Rock was one in a billion! He is one of the rare wrestlers that could do it ALL! Talk, work, sell, get over, shoot promos like no other, and most importantly, make BIG $$$!

I don't believe Miz can and will ever compare to teh Rock in terms of skills!

I think calling the Miz 'the next big thing' is perhaps a tad overzealous but I'll admit, the guy seems to be improving at a really fast pace as of late. To be honest, I thought when he split from teaming with Morrison and came to RAW that he would be one of those blah draft picks who wouldn't really do anything but boy was I wrong (at least up to now). He is becoming more comfortable on the mic and clearly oozes confidence and I kind of like what he's doing at the moment with Cena. He has certainly come a long way from fumbling his lines and making a general arse of himself as the host of the dire Diva Search competition and his ring work is fair but not imo at the level of excitement of the Rock who some people seem to be comparing him to. Overall, the guy will do good but he is not the next Rock....

I am a big fan of the Miz, but he won't be the next Rock. Like someone said before, only Rock can be Rock, only Austin can be Austin, etc... Now I do agree with the notion that if he keeps improving like he has been, he will probably teeter between the upper mid-card and the Main Event for a while. People say he sucks on the mic, I don't see it, probably because I have been laughing about his jokes on Cena. His ring work has been improving week after week. This push he is being given against Cena should not be shortened out. Let it build up until the Bash and give the Miz a hell of a match against Cena. He doesn't need to win, just be able to give Cena a good run for his money.Because if it turns into a squash match on Raw then Miz's credibility is killed instantly. Miz being next Rock? No. Miz being a future heavyweight champ? Possibly, if given the right push towards the title. I do want to see the Miz reach his potential, only he can live up to it.

Side Note: in 03 or 04, on one of the RW/RR challenges, Miz had stated he was in Ultimate Pro Wrestling, so 5 years after he stated he wanted to be a wrestler, he was being trained. In later 04, he tried doing Tough Enough but lost to Daniel Puder. But he got the interest of the E and was signed and sent to Deep South and then OVW for a year and a half until his debut in 06.

The Miz, i Hated him, and hated him and hated him, then came the tag team of he and Jo Mo, and i thought, "poor Jo Mo" and expected that team; like so many in the WWE to fizzle and die quick......but then, it didnt, and Miz started to shine, not Jo Mo shine, but really come into his own, yeah he was a douche, but damn it if he didnt start to wrestle well, and his stick work one day was just, well Awesome, and then came the draft, and i thought, here comes the wished well card, how could Miz of all people get over in Triple H Land? well first night out Miz walked out to the ring and into his own, is he the Rock? No, but is he the fastest rising heel ive bothered to notice in 2-3 years? Yes, and we desperately need a stick working Heel on Raw, the mid card can only hold the awesomeness of THE MIZ, so long, and like so many others, he may fail, but i for one love to hate that douche bag frat boy and i seriously hope he gets it done.

The miz is just a decent heel that's it...I can't see him with a world title cuz there r more deserving stars than the miz...he basically a modern day roddy piper a great upper mid-card heel that had hid run-ins with the main event.

Recently I was noticing allot of miz sucks signs in the crowds and noticed he was getting allot of heat, allot more then most people in the wwe. When I was watching wwf ppv's from 1997 I noticed the rock garnering allot of heat with the rocky sucks chants. Both of these guys have simmular mic skills. So do you see the miz as the next rock and do you see that his match vs dx as a lanch to make him into a bonadfied main eventer like he can be.

thought I needed to bring this up the thread I started in september last year. I believe that and I believe it now more then ever. I think the Miz is the greatest modern day heel and I can say I think hes the second greatest to step into the ring of all time in my opinion behind goldust (old first wwf run as goldust and begining of 2nd run). I love the guys that provide something new, something thats lacking and a change of pace. I love some great ledgends and still do but I can say I enjoy the most outlandish (with exception to the tna knockouts) promos and matches in wwe and I believe that the heat people like Orton, show, and edge draw are so old and drawn that I absolutly love heels and when I see someone who figured out how to draw heat of his own in a specialized think outside the box way I love it. I'm proud to say that I'm actually the biggest Miz mark there is and I could bet my life on the fact that he will be one of the greatest ever in the history books just like i see him now. Because the MIZ is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

XxXEGfanXxX- The miz is just a decent heel that's it...I can't see him with a world title cuz there r more deserving stars than the miz...he basically a modern day roddy piper a great upper mid-card heel that had hid run-ins with the main event.

That is actually a good comparison, yeh the Miz is similar to Piper in that he is better on the mic than in the ring, though in fairness Miz is improving with his wrestling imo...

Im a huge fan of the Miz. I think he'll get his shot at a heavyweight belt one day weither he wins or not im not sure. He defidently has the talent and the heart to do it. But he isn't the next rock. I could see him winnning several mid car titles as well as maybe a money in the bank win.
