Cody Rhodes- Plausible face of the next generation.

I Am Nexus And Not Against them!
Cody Rhodes, after being my favorite superstar for a long time, has just proved his candiacy for the next face of the WWE. By beating Mark Henry with somewhat ease, It just proves the WWE is pushing him. Thoughts?

I'm really REALLY hoping this doesn't sound rude. I have to disagree with you. Mark Henry's job right now is pretty much to help the guys newer than he is to look good. And since Cody is one of those "newer" wrestlers...I'm not sure how Mark Henry getting beat makes Cody Rhodes a canidate for the next face of WWE. I personally just think that makes him a mid-carder...which he was before that match against Henry.

I think you might be looking a bit too much into this. I don't think he's getting pushed. I think it was just a win. I don't see him getting much of a push.

First of all, was there a pun intended with the mention of "face" in the title? God help us if someone decides to post a picture of Rhodes posing in front of that LED mirror one more time.

I don't think Cody Rhodes is going to be the marquee star of the WWE (like John Cena or Randy Orton), and to be honest, I don't see how you can really make a case that his beating Mark Henry makes any momentum for him whatsoever. Henry's designation is jobber to the stars, and Cody hasn't exactly been on a big time roll on Smackdown. I guess WWE decided not to bury Rhodes by getting squashed by Henry.

Rhodes will be a solid performer like his brother, and he might possibly evolve to the point where he might challenge for the world championship on a PPV. But I don't see him being the "face" of the company where mainstream appearances, merchandising, movie deals, and consistent main attraction status are pretty much the norm in today's wrestling market. I don't see Rhodes attaining that status. He might get to the level of a Sheamus or a Wade Barrett someday where he will be the challenger to the big name. But I don't see Rhodes being THE face of WWE now or in the future.

No offence man, Cody had the look at first...but now unless he gets a miracle I see him only being in WWE for the next 2 years cause of daddy. His match tonight with mark henry wasnt the greatest upset or victory...it was just a Hey! heres a win now keep smiling. Give it a year and a half and the next "future endeav" Cody Rhodes.

Yeah. Mark's job right now is to help get over talent. He in no way is getting a push. But if he was I might Kill myself. Only because his look and how much he loves himself.

I don`t think a win over Henry is signs of a push, but I do think Rhodes`appearing all the time is. Personally I`m a fan of him and hope he wins some single gold soon and will one day be a WC. Not sure he`ll ever be the same level of Cena and Orton, but those guys have been given a huge amount of push because unlike now there wasn`t as much competition in their early careers(least not in vince`s eyes) hence main events had the same people over and over again. He has the look, the charisma, and certainly has in ring ability. only thing that will stop him is creative`s inability to properly push stars anymore.

2, 3 years from now, Cody Rhodes is going to be huge. He has the genes, the talent and the looks. But as of right now, Vince is not behind him. He says that Cody overacts and there is some truth to that but Cody plays a great heel role. I do believe that one day he will be a WWE champion, I can tell because even when he's not doing anything it seems like he's upper mid-carding. One day Cody will reach the top, alot sooner than later.

I agree.. he doesn't have the natural ability. Everything he does seems planned. even his ring entrance... each step. Robotic.

I don't know about the "because of his daddy" stuff. I think Cody has carved out his own niche in his profession and I admit I'm enjoying the "Dashing" stuff more than I thought I would.

That said, I doubt he's the face of the new generation. The guy just isn't interesting or charismatic enough to go over in a big way. I think he's made himself into a solid mid-carder and can have a nice career with that.

Admittedly, I was a little disappointed in Mark Henry going down so easily. He seems to be cementing his role as "The World's Strongest Jobber."

Too bad.:disappointed:

I been telling people this for awhile now that Cody Rhodes could be a top star in about 3 years from now. He has the in ring skills, decent look (give the guy some damn knee pads though) and overall just gets it. He really does remind me of Randy Orton when Orton was doing the RNN promos before he hit it big with Evolution. The win over Mark Henry doesn't mean anything...but the fact that they optioned to put him on Raw and let him have a match when there are guys like Kofi, Big Show, and other Smackdown guys does say something about how WWE views him and his potential.

After Legacy broke up I saw stardom for Ted and the job centre for Cody...but he has impressed me with this new "Dashing" gimmick, and I think he is becoming a good mid-card heel. Who knows? Could he end up breaking into the main event? It could happen. Who saw Miz as a World Champion a couple of years ago? Whoever thought Mankind would become hold the biggest belt back in the 90s??

I dont think this win over Fat Henry means anything, but I think we will see a push for Cody in the next 18 months or so. He has the looks to be a face, and women will love him and that is always something Vince likes in his faces, and Cody is pretty good in the ring. I dont think he will be the face of the next generation, but I could see him as a main event face at some point in the future.

Cody surely has a long way to go as of now. He has to win a midcard championship for starters and then slowly work his way up the roster to be even taken seriously. Beating Mark Henry means nothing.

I just feel that Cody is never going to work well as a face. His current gimmick is a strong one and I do not think that WWE would like to change it. He is going to get a push while he is playing this gimmick. When he turns face WWE will obviously be against the idea of changing his gimmick and so we will see a watered down version of th "dashing" gimmick that we like so much. Its one of the reasons that I feel HBK did not work as the top face of the company back in 1996. Prior to turning face he had the gimmick of a ladies man. After he turned he kept the sam gimmick, minus the cockiness. And that did not work out well at all.

He's getting better and is very refreshing heel. That smarmy look on his face is priceless really and who could tell a year ago that he would have this refreshing a-character.

Top face, NO, but he could definitely work the upper/proper mid-card level. As mentioned above he wouldn't really work as a face UNLESS he goes over regardless based on his looks ala Shawn 95.

The Henry win was to give him a big guy victory in his build up to facing Big Show. However I think Cody has done a great job of embracing his goofy gimmick and getting it over. He's good in the ring and getting better on the mic, I can definitely see him as the next mainstay IC champ after Ziggler, I could also see a great feud with Rey.

I see Cody heading back to Raw with his persona next year. He's done a really good job at getting his character over and getting the audience to hate him (better than Ted Dibiase). I'd really like to see him moved there as SD continually uses the new stars to put over Rey, Edge, and Undertaker. I feel Cody's lost in the shuffle, but has been given a lot of time to evolve over the last year. He still has a good chance to get into a WM type feud with someone. I just hope it's not Big Show.
