CM Comin'

RVD420

Occasional Pre-Show
So...once again I was sitting in my apartment, reaching for the stars :rasta: and watching friday night Smackdown when another one of those crazy thoughts entered my brain.

CM Punk is now a 2x WHC and I'm still not quite sure how I fel about that. This reign is already better than his forgettable first and it got me thinking about his WWE career.

- 6/24/06 CM Punk debuts on ECW
- Survivor Series '06 teams with D-X and Hardys
- WM23 was the man Mr. Kennedy knocked off the ladder to win MITB
- 9/1/07 won ECW title and held it until 1/22/08
- Won MITB at WM24
- 6/30/08 cashed in MITB and won his first WHC which he held for 3 months
- 10/27/08 Won the World Tag Titles with Kofi Kingston
- 1/19/09 Won the IC title
- Won MITB at WM25 becoming the only person to ever win the match twice and doing it in consecutive years
- Cashed in MITB to win 2nd WHC against Jeff Hardy at Extreme Rules '09

Pretty impressive for only having been in the company for 2 1/2 years right? Well of course my paranoia kicked in from all the midnight toking and I got to thinking about a post created asking whether or not JBL was built up as champion on Smackdown in order to push John Cena to the moon. So my question to you is this. Was CM Punk built up over this short period of time in order to eventually turn him heel (current) and give him the push that he is now receiving?

I'll will reserve my judgement for a later time (once some people respond) but before I leave I shall include one more piece of information. Punk was given titles at times when the value of those championships were not where they should have been. Is that why they were given to him, seemingly, one after the other? In order to build him up as this over-achiever (a play off of Edge's character who interestingly, was the man Punk first defeated to win a World title)

So.......Was Punk given these titles from the start in order for this one heel turn to work? Is Punk one of the faces of the future of the company? Is this all one big conspiracy? Am I really as crazy as I sound or could you actually CM Comin' from a mile away.......(OOHHHHHH so THAT'S where the thread title came from)

I don't think CM Punk's first title reign was supposed to be used to push him further now. I think his first title reign was just a flop. This current title reign should be much better than his first. He is now up against guys that he actually has a chance against, unlike on RAW he had guys like Triple H, Cena, Batista, Michaels, etc. to compete with for the top strap. Now he has to compete with the "B" stars, Edge, Jeff Hardy, Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio, etc.

I do think that CM Punk willhave a better run with this reign not just because he is on Smackdown! but, because he is a heel. I think CM Punk will thrive as a heel and really make a name for himself.

CM Punk may be one of the future starts of the company. I'm not quite sure yet but, WWE seems to really like CM Punk's character and the crowds seem to love him. That sounds to me like a future face of the company in the making. I think CM Punk may turn out to be a Triple H like character (he's good as a face but, better as a heel).

This is probably not just one big conspiracy.

GOOD THREAD. I really liked this thread very much. Keep them coming RVD420:rasta:

:rasta: i feel ya, got the same tradition I have when sitting down to watch Raw and Smackdown hahaha.

Anyways, Punk's title reign last year was just a trial that didn't pan out. This year his story seems to be a little more planned out. If he turns complete heel then it'll be an awesome reign. If he stays face it could go either way. I think the WWE has tried too hard to push him, they obviously have a lot of faith in him and see him as a future star of the company otherwise they wouldn't have pushed him that far and such a short time.

I like Punk, always have and am happy to see this title reign actually meaning something and getting involved in a feud with Jeff and Edge is great for his character, much better than the set up he had on Raw... JBL and Batista, no wonder his first run was so fucked up. Now he has great workers like Edge and Jeff to go with.

CM Punk should hopefully have decent run this time and Smackdown is the place to be right now.

Well, CM Punk is a very good wrestler. I really wish he would do the stuff he did in the Indies. I understand that a move called "Welcome to Chicago, Motherfucker" wouldn't sit well in this days WWE, but CM had great moves in the indies. But, sometimes, you get that thought, and you go "Do they do this, to push anti-drugs?" Which I hope isn't the case. They should put the strap on him for his talent. But it seems like Punk wins way too much.

I really hope that this reign, is much better than his last reign. Because, in his first reign, they pushed it as a "your a fluke champion" your a "paper champion at best" which really didn't help much. because people didn't take him serious as champion. Hopefully, he will win this sunday. Hopefully, he will have a lengthy reign, with many to come. Hopefully, he will be the face of Smackdown, and the face of the future. CM Punk, until 2006, was one of the best on the indy scene. Now, he's hands down one of the best WWE has to serve.

He has had an impressive resume, but who knows if he can have an impressive world title reign. Only time will tell.

Meh, I dont think WWE has enough foresight to plan that far ahead. They basically know that they have a great talent and they're trying to find the right way to use him. So far they've been doing pretty good with his current reign. He's been entertaining and he hasnt come off as a jobber with a big belt. Unlike most people, I dont think he has to turn heel to succeed. But I do think that it'd make him a helluva lot more entertaining. Does CM Punk really look like a baby face anyway? HELL NO! Punk can do good as a face but he's a lot better rouned when he's a heel.

I do really enjoy CM Punk and watching him wrestle. He is my style of wrestler, tough, quick, and submission. He is in my top 5 wrestlers right now, right alongside(In no particular order) Christian, Evan Bourne, Edge, and Randy Orton.

But, I do have a problem with one thing in your post. How are you going to call him a heel? I mean he did the right thing, and now he has championship gold for it. At least he came out and tried to explain himself, not like Edge who would have laughed and boasted. I do agree about the first title reign being sorry, but I expect this feud between him and Jeff Hardy to be a good one, finally ending in a Ladder match!

good thread, RVD420!

And it is true that he's becoming one of the top guys. His straight Edge lifestyle is something that Vince n' company can get behind, and he's a damn good wrestler.

Alignment-related, I have to say he's reaching Tweener status, but not completely on his own doing (check the fans for that) Whether or not creative pulls the trigger and makes him heel, it remains to be seen.

Wow good thread  but I am going to have to disagree, sorry.

His major title haul in the past 2 1/2 years has nothing really to do with the WWE wanting him to turn heel, it doesn't make sense to give someone lots of titles just to turn him heel.

You have to remember before he came to WWE he was very over with teh indy crowds, a former ROH champion and tag champion, if you look at the DX v R-Rated RKO Survivor Series match in 2006, who gets the chants? Here you have DX and the Hardyz yet the crowd chants for CM Punk, wow. It was after that he started to get his 'push' and logically it would make sense to get him over. The New breed v Originals in ECW storyline was all over which side he would join, he joined the new breed for a few weeks, and that was a heel turn.

If you're building him up to have a major heel turn I ask two things;

1) Why have him already turn heel?

2) Why have him go tweener as he is at the minute and not a fully fledged heel?
