Clerks v. Clerks II

Life's A Bitch, And Then You Mosh
Which one do you think is better? Was it the acting? Was it because of color, or lack of? Was it just a better story?

As much as I loved Clerks II, I still think Clerks is the better movie. The B&W doesn't bother me, so that difference means nothing to me. The story wasn't better, as it was simply two guys working, and going through the day. But, it was funnier, and was better to watch. Clerks was good throughout, and had funny moments that might not have meant to be funny. In Clerks II, it relied on a guy fucking a donkey, and Rosario's tits hopping around during a dance. Other than that, the best scenes were anything with Randall.

Besides Kinky Kelly, Rosario Dawson, and Pillow Pants, there's nothing memorable about Clerks II. Clerks was funny and insightful at the same time from them playing hockey on the roof to the whole Star Wars thing. I loved Veronica in Clerks and her back-and-forth with Dante about their sexual activity.

I had forgotten all about Pillow Pants. That shit was hilarious. After starting this thread, I really wanted to watch both. I think I'll bring them to work later, and use them to fill the time between punch in, and punch out.

I wonder if the admins/mods would allow me my own movie review thread. I own over 400, and have always wanted somewhere to talk about them...

I'm sure they wouldn't mind. I keep talking to my friend about Clerks II and he doesn't like the fact that it's not in black and white like Clerks. It is funny with Randall sells the girl cigarettes and Dante gets in trouble for it.

Clerks

The reason for me is the dialog. One of my Favorite things about Clerks is that is was written so damn well, and most of the scenes were Dante and Randall just talking in the store. I love the fact the movie makes me laugh at their realistic conversations instead of relying on over the top donkey shows. I'm not saying Clerks II was bad, or Clerks wasn't over the top, because I would be lying, but in comparison there not even in the same ballpark. Plus the Black and White actually did something for me,I can't put my finger on what it is, but it was one of the first reasons I stopped on the channel it was on and I loved the indie style feel. I truly feel the movie would have produced a whole different feel if it was in color.

I'm thinkin' along the same lines as everyone else, and gonna say Clerks. However, my choice isn't because of the dialogue (although that was amazing), or the black and white aspect. I chose it do to the terrible acting, and the roof hockey. Now, before anyone jumps my case, hear me out. Clerks was written by a novice script writer (Kevin Smith), starred a bunch friends, and was (as alluded to earlier) completely over the top. Come to think of it, this film is what has inspired me and my friend to start our own production company.

Both were great in their own ways.

Clerks was our introduction to the legendary Kevin Smith, so it'll always have a special place in my, and other fans of his, hearts. In some ways, there's nothing Kevin Smith could ever do that people will claim is better then Clerks, when it actuality... Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, and yes... Clerks 2 are all better movies then the original Clerks (and so is Jersey Girl and Zack & Miri Make a Porno). It's just hard to acknowledge it because Clerks is Kevin Smith's first and the film that made us fall in love with him.

The dialogue in the first Clerks was probably better then the dialogue in Clerks 2, but the look, story, editing and everything else undoubtedly go to Clerks 2. Plus, Clerks 2 had Rosario Dawson, which is always a plus for any movie solely based on her looks alone.

So yeah... at the end of the day, I give the edge to Clerks 2. Clerks I favor more personally, but Clerks 2 is definitely the better movie overall.
