Christian helping Cena last night?

Is it just me or was it very strange not only too see CM Punk 'Mr Money in the Bank' but why...
Oh why was Christian there? Helping Cena?
The segment earlier in the night was soo good. Absolute gold. I could see Christian having turned heel to help Edge win, or at least come out and raise his arm.
Christian/Edge champion and champion anyone?

It just seemed very odd. Given Edge and Christian's history..

at the start of the night when they had there segment it made me think he might come out and do a con-chair-to with edge like the old days to help edge but christian stays face, i also thought he might turn heel as tommy dreamer retirement angle should kick in after backlash and making christian heel to be against dreamer seemed to make sense but vince obviously holding off for a bit

Let's say you're out and about with your best friend, you've had a few, and your buddy drunkenly walks into a lamppost. And then, right across the street, a 7-seven foot monster throws a guy through a spotlight. Who would YOU be more concerned about?

THAT's why Christian was helping Cena.

That is the topic of the other thread I just posted haha.
I agree that Christian would of been shocked, but really why would he care, no one ran out when Triple H got punted? So why when John Cena is put through a spotlight? Triple H sold much better than Cena too.

Three reasons.

1) People have been punted before. How often does a wrestler get blown up?

2) Shane and Batista were already out there, in addition to the medics. More than that many people in the ring at once would be a clusterfuck.

And thirdly, everyone knows Triple H is despised in the back. If WWE had sent the locker room out there to pretend to be concerned, then we all would have known the injury was a work.

Ok, so that last one is a joke. But the other two are real points I'm making.

So why when John Cena is put through a spotlight? Triple H sold much better than Cena too.
in all fairness, about 12 other people have sold that punt before, so Triple H kinda has the advantage of knowing how that move is sold. Cena's selling was a bit more on-the-fly.

There's another thread that you can post in about whether or not you agree with Edge being a nine-time champ. Any more posting about that in here will be grounds for off-topic spamming.

Christian came out to help Cena because he got slammed into some kind of bat-signal apparatus. Any decent human being would help in that situation.

I think he damn well deserves to be a 20 time champion. And as long as he has 2 or 3 long title reigns within his career, which will surely last another 10 years+, it wont really matter anyways. Better young stars? Like who? There is no one in the WWE right now except for Jericho who has both the in-ring and mic skills of Edge. Edge is absolute gold, thats why he needs the gold on his shoulder for 75% of the year. The only "young" stars that could even come close to Edge are Morrison and Benjamin, thats it. But to be fair, im fully expecting one of them to finally get thier first world title this year going over Edge. Damn, isnt Smackdown awesome? Edge, Jericho, Morrison, Punk, Benjamin??

Smackdown is great except for punk. Punk is aweful. hes a crappy wrestler and i hope he loses his Money in the Bank cash-in match

did anyone not see the segment earlier with edge and christain after chistian won the ecw championship, he went up to edge and edge made an argument and said Chritian thinks hes beter then him, then chirstian said edge isn't fun anymore, and edge said Cena made him not fun, and when he wins the title he'll be fun again. So christian and edge arent realy buddy-buddy.

he came out... because hes a baby face, sure he had history with edge... they showed that in the segment after he won the belt when he went to talk to edge.

but he went out to check if cena was ok because he was just thrown though a spotlight by a fucking giant...

im sure if edge was thrown through it he would have come out alot quicker... and been one of the only workers to come out...

and hunter didnt need anyone to come out as it was said before, dave and shane were out there already and they had the EMT's.. all he got was a punt in the head... everyone who has taken that move so far has come back... sure its a 'dangerous career ending move' as they like to say... but so far that hasent really been true. where as... a dude getting chokeslammed through a spotlight... that has potential to give you some real fucking injurys.

I'm thinking either slow burn Edge/Christian feud, possibly blown off at Summerslam...maybe they'll do a late trade to send Christian to Smackdown! and someone to ECW (Jeffykins I'd hope). Either that or he was just acting out AGAINST Edge by helping the man he beat, furthering the dissent amongst the brothers (2009 is the year of the sibling feud...Hardy vs. Hardy, Bella vs. Bella, I'm sure the Briscoes are due for another one once Mark gets back from injury).

Personally, I was wondering what the fuck SHAD GASPAR was doing out there, considering no one gives a shit about Cryme Tyme anymore.

the Segment with Edge and Christian was alot like the segment from a couple years ago with Triple H and Shawn Michaels in the weeks leading up to the reformation of DX.. Triple H "apologized" to Vince McMahon... So later that night, Shawn Michaels tracked him down in the back and asked him what the hell he was doing.. He said he basically sold his soul to the devil and Triple H said he'd do whatever he had to do and doesn't care if anyone likes it.. HBK then ripped off on him and called him a sell out. A few weeks later, Triple H officially turned face by pedigreeing McMahon and a week later DX was formed.

Fast forward to Backlash..Edge and Christian really havn't had any interaction since Edge's heel run began, mostly because Christian was in TNA.. So Christian had his chance to tell Edge what he, his storyline "brother", thinks of his actions.. It's the same as if You were doing drugs and robbing people and your brother tried to talk sense in to you and lead you down the right path... Christian tried talking some sense in to Edge, asking what the hell got in to him, and you could see Edge was listening.. So, after Cena was injured, Christian came out to check on Cena as a way of showing concern, not believing what has gotten in to his "brother"...I'm thinking this is all gonna lead to some kinda revelation for Edge, leading to a face turn in the near future... Lets face it, with Chris Jericho on Smackdown, it opens the door for an Edge face turn.. Edge as the lead heel only works when theres no heels for him to compete with.. I think they drafted Jericho to Smackdown as a way of Drafting a heel replacement when Edge turns face.

Shad was out there because he's good friends with John Cena..Remember CTC? I think this was actually good for WWE to remember past storylines as opposed to treating us like idiots like nothing ever happened.

I believe that last night at Backlash with all the.. call them... "strange bedfellows" that they were all precursors to some future storylines. I know E&C aren't strange bedfellows and I know Shad and Cena are friends and yadda yadda yadda... but they still came off as "random encounters" for lack of a better term. I mean look how things ended last night. Three new champs, Cena and Triple H pretty much out of the picture for hopefully at least a month or two, (I don't know of the dates and plans but Cena's wedding is approaching to my knowledge) it really looks like WWE is going to start moving to their younger up and coming superstars a bit more. You also have HBK out of action so that's another top dog not taking a spot on a PPV card.

My predictions are we are going to see the WWE possibly taking some risks over the summer and I would prepare myself for that right now. I mean summer television sucks anyway because everything is either a repeat or god-awful reality show. During the summer with the exception of the NHL and NBA playoffs, there's not much on. So unless you want to watch baseball 24/7, the WWE is really the only new fresh weekly television you're going to get. Yes some other great cable shows on like Mad Men, anything on F/X, etc... are great, but when the WWE doesn't have a ton of TV to contend with, they're going to take some risks. You also have some gimmick-y PPVS coming up with One Night Stand (or whatever the shit they're calling it now) and Night of Champions being everything is a title match, so maybe the gimmick of a match being Extreme or something or a straight title match could bring out some of the great young talent the WWE has. I think we will see Shelton, MVP, Punk, Kennedy (god-willing he's not injured again), Morrison getting some solid PPV time and that can't be anything but good. It's just my opinion but last night was the start and I think the WWE is really moving in the right direction this summer.

Honestly, I don't feel it means anything. A face got destroyed, other faces came out to make sure everythings ok. That was a sick spot too. I was there, unfortunately couldn't see it well cause I was on the floor, but it looked badass. Why does Chritian have to align with Edge? So he can get buried? Its now Christains time to shine, I do not wat to see him hanging with Edge for a while. I do Not want to see him in Edges shadow. He's worked too hard the past few years for that.

While I agree with you, It can't be ignored that Edge is Christian's storyline brother. I see Christian being acquired in some type of deal to SD, hopefully for Punk to get him back on ECW (Punk/Swagger feud?) after dropping the ECW Title later this summer...then the sparks will fly.

I don't see why Christian would just be helping him if it was just a random face. First of all, WWE knows that most of their fans know about all of the history between Edge and Christian. So they can't act like they just threw him randomly into helping out Cena. Another thing is the interaction between Edge and Christian. They wouldn't have those two talk just to fill up a little time. This is obviously meaning something. Who knows exactly how long we're gonna have to wait to see what to make of this, but this isn't gonna be an isolated occurance. There's no chance in Hell.

I agree with the last poster.
Clearly WWE were trying to make the "Smashed through a spotlight" spot look as legit as possible with the babyfaces coming out to check on Cena, but why Christian, OF ALL the BABYFACES? Why not MVP, Kennedy, JTG, anyone but the storyline brother of the man who just won the match..there is clearly significance too it.

I wouldn't really read too much into it just yet. WWE tends to test the water with things, they might have just added the E&C segment to see how hyped the IWC would get. It is interesting and there may be something to it, but it can be just a thing they wanted to test but wont pull the trigger.

As for everyone helping Cena out, come on. He's the biggest baby face of the company and he just got his ass handed to him... OF COURSE other faces are going to rush to his aid, Christian and Shad and Punk just happened to be who was there at the time.

Christian = Face, John Cena = Face, Cena was taken out by the heel big show while the heel edge won The World Heavyweight championship, So yes he would be generally concerned for the other face (John cena) and would be there to help him.

I think it would have been great if when all the faces were standing around checkin on Cena that Punk tried to cash in his MITB shot on a beaten up Edge but Christian makes the save to disprove Edge's point earlier in the nite about being better than him... It could have set up a christian-punk feud or face turn for Edge and a heel turn to Punk and a feud with them..

I did think it was very strange for christian and punk to be the ones out there, hopefully it'll set up something and wasnt just coincidence..

i didn't watch backlash, but i wanted to ask something. seeing as how christian is now the ecw champion and he has won 2 nwa championships (it was the nwa title when he won it), is christian now a 3 time world champion? or is is still just 2. i know the ecw title to some isn't considered a world title, but when vince was in a story with the ecw title, he even referred to it as a world championship. i want to see a edge vs. christian match. i think that would be awesome! off topic, sorry guys.

And Christian didn't really help Cena. He came out to see what had happened. Didn't see Christian lift a finger to help him. Doesn't hold any significance, it was just the WWE's piss poor way of giving some legitimacy to what had happened and treating it as 'seriouz'.

It was good to see Edge and Christian interact at Backlash, but it was a one time thing for the time being. Just to give the fans what they want for a brief second.
