Cena After The Title Reign

If Cena does indeed lose the title to Daniel Bryan at Summerslam, and Randy Orton cashes in, it would still leave Cena with an automatic rematch, as we've seen with champions in the past. Most recently, we saw it with Jack Swagger's cash-in after Wrestlemania 26, when he cashed in on Chris Jericho when Edge was #1 Contender, and we got a triple threat match between the three on Smackdown. However, I doubt that WWE would 'give away' a triple threat match between Cena, Orton, and Bryan on free TV, so I would expect that match to take place at the next PPV, Night of Champions.

If Cena is then unsuccessful at regaining the WWE Champion, what's next? I'd have him challenge Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship. While I'm sure this would draw many a complaint, the converse would be that it would help to elevate the belt, and its champion. There are so many who argue that the World Championship is firmly below the WWE Title, and I'd be hard-pressed to argue with them. But if John Cena was in the picture, would it still be considered "below" the WWE Title? It would free up Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton to continue their mini-feud. At the same time, it would allow for importance to be brought back to the World Title, whether it be Cena winning it or simply chasing it.

I harken back to Cena's announcement shortly after winning the Royal Rumble, where he dismissed the World Heavyweight Championship and Alberto Del Rio as he was looking for a 'tougher challenge', with that being the WWE Title against CM Punk or the Rock. Well, if WWE decides to keep the belt on Del Rio, the option would be open for Cena to chase the World Title and the champion he dismissed in the past, Alberto Del Rio.

I know it's not the ideal situation, but with Del Rio not even having a concrete opponent for Summerslam, or even a hint as to whom, it's apparent the well has run somewhat dry in terms of potential challengers. There's always RVD, but he's a part-timer. Cena would bring the relevancy back to an overlooked title, and could help to elevate either Del Rio or Damien Sandow, on the chance there is a cash-in.

In the last major PPV at WM29, we saw the unusual spectacle of face vs. face in the main event. Frankly, I don't think we're going to see it again this soon: I say Cena turns bad and the possibilities for him after the PPV are endless.

If Cena does turn, wouldn't this seem to indicate he would retain the title, however? If he were to turn, which I don't see happening, it would have to happen after the PPV, as for Cena to turn mid-match and lose could be possibly catastrophic for what would undoubtably be one of the biggest heel turns of all-time.
