Can You Type?

NYSandman

Testicles. That is all.
How many people here have actually been trained to type, and how many use the "two finger lunge method." Not making fun of anyone, but it's funny how, on ALL boards, not just this one, you see people putting commas instead of spaces, and spelling almost every word wrong. I absolutely suck as a speller, but I learned to type at an early age.

It's amazing that with computers, people start messing with them BEFORE learning how to type. I've actually seen guys who can make awesome graphics, and do shit with a computer that would blow your mind, but do it with two fingers! The invention of the mouse really made it bad. Did you learn on your own, or take a class?

Just bored and curious.

I do the two finger typing, because I was self-taught. 71 words per minute, I might add.

I'm also not completely knowledgable on grammar or punctuation, but I try my best. I'd honestly like to think I'm good with spelling though. If I ever feel uncomfortable with a selective word, I often check it. (short of being tired, or having random conversations with people who could care less because they themselves type "lik dis."

All in all, my Wife types the conventional way and I'm faster and better at what I do than she is. I'm also a lot better with typing and overall writing than many "degreed" experts.

71 words typing that way? Holy shit! That's crazy!

I think however it works for you is fine. When I was taking piano lessons, I hated the dick teacher who told me use this finger or that finger. WTF? What does it matter if I get all the notes right?

When I was in school, in computer's class my teacher was the same.

"Mr. Barnes, you're never going to properly learn how to type on a computer if you don't follow the proper keys. 'A,S,D,F,J,K,L,;'"

When I tried resting my hands on the keyboard that way, I sucked big time. I don't "look" at the keyboard with I "two finger type" so I fail to see how I'm "cheating" as he refered to using two fingers as doing.

I have to type correctly for work, which I'm doing at the moment. Well, I say doing but the phones are dead so I just come here during the day.

I'm trained but when it comes to here all I try to do is spell correctly.

ME!!!!!!!!!!! I'm always on here at work! My phone's been dead, which I guess means I'm doing an okay job. Got shit working here so I'm not bothered with tech support shit all day, and because I'm senior, they only call me for big problems. I WUV my job. :D

I'm that guy you get when you want an insurance quote. Means no one wants insurance :(

oh well less money for me this month lol

I have some training in it but not enough to really say I know waht i'm doing. I use the methods i was taught but a lot of the time its a mix of that and two fingers.

I use the 'touch typing' technique. I took an actual Typing class in middle school and a Computer class, which was really Typing II, in 9th grade. I had a lot of typing experience writing papers in school/college then latter as a receptionist. Typing is 70% of my daily job now. People say I'm really fast, but I think I average around 60 WPM.

Will's 71 with 2 fingers is just amazing.

I type with two fingers constantly... I used to be able to bash out 1000 word assignments in about 30 minutes using this way.

He has to be a fast typer when he writes book all the time

I type the regular way. Two fingered is way to hard. I can get between 50-60 wpm.

I didn't know people typed with two fingers. I just type the regular way I learned in school. Fingers in the middle of the keyboard, thumbs on the spacebar, etc, etc. You get used to it eventually and don't have to look down or anything.

Just like me. It's too hard to look down at the keyboard while you type especially if you spell something wrong.

Thank You. I've been typing since 1999. Thats when I was actually first introduced to the computer as something more than a tool. (haha that reference can refer to more than just Colin :p)

The typing class I mentioned before was also in middle school. Thats why I mentioned being more or less forced to use the fingers on selective letters situation. I dispised that. I kept having to look down just to make sure my fingers were on the right damn keys.

Most people enjoy my books. :lmao:

I type wth two fingers also

Do you really need to know where any other keys are, except for "I" "N" "D" and "E" are? :p

I never got used to it. I did it for two straight years. (School years, mind you) And it was horrible. I never felt comfortable.

:headscratch: I don't look down at my keyboard? Again, I've been two finger typing since 1999 so I suppose my memory and my fingers just naturally have an invisable feel for where all the keys are.

Have you ever thought of putting your "under user name signature" as..

My name is Finlay.. and I love to type. hahahaha

With the fucked up keyboard I have now, I type real crappy, but on a great keyboard, I can type about 100 words a minute if you're not counting spelling or grammar
