There's a line, which the WWE has on occasion crossed, as to how many times we can see a match. Batista vs Cena, which happened once, when they were both faces, 2 years ago, is not in the same category as Orton vs Triple H. It's all well and good saying that you should promote people, but in all honesty, you can't have a main event tier with 20 people in it. It's all well and good saying that you could retire people, but when there is legitimate competition desperate for people that draw, it isn't really a very good idea.
So what's the solution? Well, the roster changes every year, and a typical PPV-level feud lasts two-three months, so ending the brandsplit won't make a difference. It's a perennial problem in wrestling, and it is pretty much unavoidable. I mean, how many times did we see Sting vs Ric Flair or Austin vs Rock? Millions, but those weren't stale.
The solution to the problem is twofold. Firstly, don't put guys who have zero chemistry together, and I'm looking at you Orton and HHH, in repeated matches. Secondly, and most importantly, make fresh and innovative storylines. You could watch Austin vs Rock on three different WrestleManias because they had different storylines for each one. The challenge for the WWE is to be creative with what they do, and with the two repeat matches announced for the card, they have done that. It's a valid complaint in a lot of cases, but not this one.
