Seeing Potential in a Superstar doesn't mean Skyrocket them to the front of the line.

I totally agree. Nothing bothers me more in wrestling than lazy booking. Part of the reason WWE finds itself in the hole it is in, is because they dont want to go through the effort of making legitamate new stars. Im not talking about putting 'new people' in the main event just because it's something different. I want people who look like they belong there. I love Del Rio. I think he is the best new talent WWE has had in a while. Im sorry though to see a guy who debuted less than 7 months already headling the big show. Call me old school but im sorry. Austin was a bigger star than Del Rio and he had to pay his dues and work his way up the ladder like you should, before he got his shot to headline. Its not even so much a matter of that as it is thats how you properly build a star, so they end up looking like a legit main eventer. Who honestly can sit here and tell me Del Rio stands a chance against Edge on paper. Could you imagine 2 years ago that even being on a card for wrestlemania. I know wwe is desperate for star power but pushing guys like barrett, rio, sheamus to the top ( who had the title handed to him ) when they havent done in reality anything is ridicuolous. If the WM card looks weak its bc it is, and it is a testament to how poorly WWE has built stars over the last few years. Going in this direction will only make the product less credible as well as watchable.

Thoughtful topic...but I think you'd have a better argument molding it around the Miz instead of this year's Rumble winner. Del Rio has the in-ring ability, the character and the mic skills to emerge into the current upper echelon of the WWE. He may not have as much as experience in the WWE as others, but he has worked hard and earned his stripes over the years in Mexico and around the world. He may be newer to the WWE audience, but he comes off as a polished veteran.
Miz, on the other hand, seems like the type of guy you're talking about with this supposed youth movement. They put the strap on him when there are a handful of other guys more deserving to hold a top title (Morrison -- who carried the match with the Miz a few weeks ago, Barrett, Ziggler, even R-Truth). Miz is just an average in-ring worker (his finisher is just a modified-version of Jeff Jarrett's weak-looking 'Stroke') and I don't understand why everyone thinks he's so great on the mic. His facial expressions make him look like a little boy and his catchphrase is probably the least creative I've ever heard. In 10 years, we'll be looking back on his reign as one of the weakest in the history of the WWE.

Ever see that loser at work? You know the guy; he's been there longer than you, but has seen others jump over his head for promotions? Wonder why that is? Because management knows exactly what he's good for, and just where to put him. "Paying your dues" is such a silly concept for anyone not in the locker room to be talking about. I'll never understand the IWC's (and yes, by that I do mean to include the silly boy who started this thread) doggedness in ensuring that everything is fair and square when it comes to pushes. Management feels del Rio deserves the spot more than Morrison did; get over it. Morrison isn't crying about it; that would be committing the cardinal sin (being a mark for one's self). So why are so many others crying about this?

Thought I might have posted earlier, dont see it now. Anyways, anyone who thinks pushing guys to the top fast is a good idea must be happy with the direction the WWE has taken lately. How is it working for them. Has anyone looked at the ratings for raw. Do you look at the PPV buyrates of the last year, among the worst ever. Im sorry WWE is too lazy to build legitimate stars but what do they expect in returns when no one takes these young guys seriously. When you look at Del Rio, hell yeah he is a good talent but not that good. Whats on his resume ? Now all of sudden were supposed to believe he can go toe to toe with the best, on the biggest stage when the guy hasnt even headlined one of the minor ppv shows. Dont tell me miz, ziggler, barrett, are anywhere near credible as orton, batista, and cena were prior to their run in the big time. When you look at the WM card and notice how weak it is, you can thank WWE. It is a testament to how poorly they have built 'real' stars over the last few years.

I think with a few exceptions everyone is pretty much where they should be right now.
I was perfectly ok with Del Rio winning the Royal Rumble. His character may be a bit of a JBL clone, but he plays the arrogant heel role to perfection, and is very good in the ring.

John Morrison needs to learn how to cut a promo as a face, honestly he was much better as a heel.

There is a lot of talent kind of scrunched together and WWE seems to be struggling on what to do with all of them, but I'll agree with an above post. Guys like Del Rio, Barret, Ziggler, and Sheamus are the future.

I'm more of a lurker on this site and only sign on when something or somebody catches my attention. Unfortunately, you have...and not in a good way. How you could even try to compare Del Rio to JoMo is unfathomable. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of both but ADR is more advanced than Morrison in every conceivable way. Mic skills? While Morrison is better as a heel than a face, IMO, he is still not in ADR's league. ADR gets heat that Morrison only daydreams about and he's only been a heel since 2009. Wrestling ability? ADR has been wrestling for longer and has an amateur background. Not to mention the fact that he would have competed in the 2000 Olympics for wrestling if Mexico had gotten more funding/support. He's just the more believable of the two. Starship Pain? WTF is that? The man hardly ever fully connects with his opponent, yet we're supposed to believe that he could finish a match that way? Ridiculous.

You know...I just don't get it. Not to say that you're not a true fan but it just seems to me that you're whining because the wrestler you like more isn't getting the push YOU think he deserves. Or maybe it's because a wrestler you don't like is getting a push that you don't agree with. Either way you're just being a child.

Fact is that heels are MUCH easier to push. It's actually pretty damn beneficial to be an unknown, then the entire crowd hates you (rather then those with large fan bases like Jericho, Punk etc).

Pushing a face into the main event is much more difficult. It's much more subtle, it's much slower. Push them too hard you'll get people rejecting them, don't push them enough and you'll have them lose their momentum.

John Morrison will make it, you have to remember despite all his time in the WWE, he's rarely been a featured guy like he is becoming. It's a slow burst, he's having great moments and I think it's a matter of time before he'll be given a good main event push. Probably not till after WM.
