Bully Ray as the TNA World Champion

CM Steel

A REAL American
Bubba Ray Dudley aka Bully Ray has come along way in his career from his days in ECW as part of the Dudley family. He is now a world champion in TNA Impact Wrestling. Bully Ray is now in a elite class of former world champions in wrestling history who has came from a legendary tag team. Former world champions like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Booker T, ECT. But could have Bully Ray been a world champion in somewhere like the WWE?

In TNA Wrestling Bully Ray is a modern day Hollywood Hogan as the president of the Ace's & Eight's faction like how Hogan was head of the infamous NWO. And is main eventing TNA Impact wrestling tapings and PPV's. Bully Ray has lose weight, something that he has been working at for years and I respect him for that weight lost. But would you say that Bully Ray is a big fish in a small TNA pond?

personally bully ray was well over due for his tittle reign in wwe or any where else to say i thing he weight loss is a plus and he is fine where he he is lol as goes for his brother...... Devon

For me personally Bully Ray has become a big fish in a small pond. He has become the best heel in the last 3 and that comes from a WWE fan. He is currently in the best shape of his life and is doing incredible. The bad thing is that if he goes to WWE i doubt he wil be as big as he is now in TNA. So for me he should stay in TNA and continue his excellent work.

I like Bully as champion I think he does great work as a heel and his in ring work is one of the best in TNA. There are only two things which I think stop him from being the big fish in the TNA pond. First is his look, with his shorts and baseball cap he kind of looks like an aging John Cena fan trying to look cool. Secondly he needs to be in a match where he can't use a hammer to win, the thing that made Bobby Roode such a good champ was he got the win in several different types of matches and that kind of drew more heat on him for it.

When Bully does loose the belt I hope he will still remain in the title hunt because he is a huge TNA asset.

In the five years I've been watching TNA I would say Bully Ray has been the best World Champion in that time. IMO he has easily been the best heel in professional wrestling over the last few years and no one deserves to be a World Champion more than Bully Ray. Bully has always been great at cutting promos and been decent in the ring but he always looked a bit to fat to be a World Champion IMO. But since the "spilt" of Team 3D Bully has certainly been putting in the work and is in great shape now and deserves a lot of credit for that.

As for whether he could be a World Champion in WWE that all depends on whether he could be himself. If he was shackled and made into a puppet, like everyone else, then no I couldn't really see him succeeding as a top singles guy. But if he was allowed some freedom in what he could do/say then I've no doubts he could be a World Champion where ever he wanted to be a World Champion.

Bully's Title reign so far has been great and I am glad that he's going to get to continue that reign. Last night I thought his reign was in serious doubt though. He and Sting put on a great match and Bully's been putting on great matches for a while now and I can't wait for his eventual showdown with The Phenomenal One AJ Styles.

When was the last time you heard Bully Ray ask a teenage girl if she learned how to suck dick from her mother? If you're referring to TNA-style Bully Ray as 'unshackled', you don't know what unshackled looks like.

TNA isn't any more extreme than the WWE, or 'unshackled', or choose your descriptor. This is no longer 2009. The differences, in terms of graphic content, between the two organizations are a) the occasional use of blood in TNA, and the less occasional use of blood in the WWE, and b) a letter designation that means very little, but one that fourteen year-old kids can't get over. They promote themselves as an edgier organization, because some of you idiots eat that shit up. You don't know what edgy or unshackled are, unless someone tells you what is and isn't.

Before someone says 'but the WWE guys read from a script!', just don't. I'm going to laugh very, very hard at you, and you aren't going to understand why.

I don't think he's a big fish in a small pond. TNA does not get the ratings WWE does but that doesn't mean they're lacking stars. Angle, Hogan (come on we all know he wants to use his pull to carry the belt again if it weren't for surgeries he would be), Sting, RVD, AA, Roode, Storm, Styles, Joe, etc. Plenty of main event talent there

TNA can put on an event and call it a 'main event'. Not a single one of those names, except maybe Angle, puts an ass in a seat anymore that wouldn't be there otherwise. RVD hasn't appeared on TNA, and no one really gives a shit. Austin Aries had a two month program at the top of the card, went back to the secondary events with a boost (and is doing quite well there, but that doesn't make him 'main event'). Samoa Joe hasn't been a main eventer since ROH, and is another guy who frequently disappears without anyone giving a shit. AJ Styles has been given multiple chances at the top of the card, and ratings drop like clockwork whenever he does.

TNA has cult heroes, but not one single 'main eventer'. Is there anyone in TNA who they would be sorely affected without? It seems to be part of their company structure to have no 'John Cena' types, people that can't get hurt without causing company damage, but that same strategy has kept them from building anyone in to a true asses-in-seats person (again, except for maybe Kurt Angle.)

Any company can have a 'main event'. It's the last match on the card. There are main events in American Legion halls across the country. What matters is how many people are going to come to see it... that wouldn't come otherwise.

Ray has always been great on the mic. He used to start riots in ECW with his crowd taunts. I'm very critical of TNA but one thing they've done right is put the mic in Bully Ray's hand and let him do his thing. I believe that eventually he probably would have become a main event player in the WWE, and I sort of hope he gets that chance before it's all said and done.

I think the way he carries himself and the way his title reign is being written, he's probably the best world champion I've seen in the last few years in any company.

Bully Ray is a gift to pro wrestling. Goodness gracious as people have mentioned he's got to be the most improved guy in the business. He went from a husky tag team specialist to a rock hard muscle bound heel monster. He does it so well. Sting being in another main event initially I wasn't high on it. But Bully Ray came out fired up Sting, riled up Hogan and got new life from the Stinger. He's always working to get that reaction. Even at the pay per view a great promo about "No Holds Barred." How back in the old days the phrase came about because there were certain holds that you can not do. Today there was that one move that can't be done... the piledriver. They built this mini story before the mainevent which was very good and the whole cutting up the ring, pulling back the flooring, the padding and piledriving Sting on his skull on the wooden flooring, it was very good stuff. Guys like Bully Ray and CM Punk they're not content just being on the roster, they're not content just being champion, they want to be superstars and that's why they're great and the best today.
