Bullshit about Movies

Sunshine is great. It's like 95% a fantastic film, and then 5% of the most ridiculiously stupid shit ever. But it's Danny Boyle so he can do no wrong. Even better is that the film is written by Alex Garland, the author of The Beach (one of my favorite books) and 28 Days Later. It's good if you like sci-fi like I do.

The stuff you're marking as "the most ridiculous shit ever", is what I had a problem with. I hate not going into detail, but it's not hard to find the spot where I said "Holy fuck...What?". I also wouldn't just classify it as a sci-fi. It has some action, some thriller, some horror, lots of drama, and little bits of suspense.

The ending. Huge cop-out. The majority of the movie is this wonderful Sci-Fi tale and then all of a sudden BOOM! slasher movie time out of nowhere.

That said, I actually didn't think the ending was that bad. I didn't think it totally killed the movie or anything, I really enjoyed seeing it and was glad I saw it in theaters during it's short run.

I see you watched (and enjoyed) This is England recently JMT, what'd you think of it?

I saw it when it premiered at the Newport Film Festival in a packed theater and I loved every minute of it. For some reason Rachel Dratch from Saturday Night Live was there (and drunk) and I managed to score a scribbly little autograph from her. Shane Meadows is a great up and coming director (have you seen Dead Man's Shoes?) and This is England is one of the best skinhead films I've ever seen, one that actually looks at the non-violent and non-racist skinhead culture, of which the majority of people don't realize exists.

It was my second time watching it, and I enjoyed it more this time around. I liked it the first time as well, but this time I was able to pay more attention and fully understand everything that was said. I had trouble with the English accent the first time viewing, partly because other people were in the room.

But yeah... great film, and absolutely TREMENDOUS soundtrack. Good music was the one thing American History X lacked, but This is England couldn't have been any better in that department. I especially loved the "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want" cover towards the end. Usually that song makes me think of Ferris Bueller, but now after seeing This is England, that might change.

And after I watched it the other day, I looked up Shane Meadows on Wikipedia and looked at his films, and yeah... I'm going to have to check some of those out. Dead Man's Shoes and Somers Town are definitely films I will look to catch in the future.

I haven't seen Somer's Town yet, but you DEFINATELY need to see Dead Man's Shoes, and ASAP. It's absolutely brilliant from start to finish, I'm not sure which I like better, Dead Man or This is England.

And I couldn't agree more about the soundtrack, I love the scene towards the beginning when they're all just walking down the streets and Toots & the Maytals "5446 That's My Number" starts playing, its just perfect. There are a few other amazing Toots songs as well some Lee Perry & Jimmy Cliff, top notch stuff. Plus it has a great UK Subs song as well, quite frankly I wish the film had more punk music than it did. Probably the only minor complaint I could possibly have about the entire movie.

This isn't really about movies, but I'd like to share it anyway.

I loved the film Friday Night Lights with Billy Bob Thornton, and I always heard great things about the show with the same name, but never got around watching it because I hate watching shit in the middle of the season.

Well yesterday I went into Best Buy and saw the 1st Season on DVD for only $12 and decided to pick it up. And man am I glad I did.

I've only watched about 7 episodes so far, but wow... what a great fucking show. I mean, it truly is. I'm going to go back in about a week and pick up Seasons 2 & 3.

But yeah... I highly recommend you guys check this show out. X, I know you do the torrent deal, so try and get to that as soon as possible if you can or already haven’t seen the show yet. I promise you won’t regret it. The show is fucking great.

Oh, and I forgot to mention earlier that I watched I Spit on Your Grave. Meh... kind of slow, and the rape and revenge scenes weren't as bad as I pictured it. I guess it hurts it though since I seen shit like Irréversible before seeing this. And the movie reminded me of one of the worst movies I've ever seen in Descent (not to be confused with The Descent). It stars Rosario Dawson and it's about a girl who gets raped and then revenge. It is fucking AWFUL.

Oh, and X, I’m still waiting on Delirious, Gone Baby Gone, and Into the Wild reviews. :)

My mother is always telling me to watch that show, she loves it. I absolutely loved the movie, but the show just looks too soap opera-ish for me (I guess thats kind of silly coming from a wrestling fan huh?)

But now that you've given it the seal of approval, I'll have to check it out. I just pray it's not like those other teen soap operas like Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill.

I promise I'll get to those movies this week man, definately.

Your mom has great taste my friend. The only shit my mom currently watches on TV is fucking Nancy Grace, Judge Judy, C-SPAN, and random shit on channels like CourtTV and A&E, lmao.

And I promise you, FNL is NOTHING like The OC or any of that garbage. Yes, it has drama, but it's good drama like in The Wonder Years, not corny trash like in Degrassi or anything lame like that..

I'm watching Hamlet 2 right now, and I can't believe I missed out on seeing this in theaters, it's fucking HILARIOUS. So many great quotes from the awesome Steve Coogan...

"I have so much anger, I feel like I've been raped....in the FACE"
"GRAVEL! The bane of my existence!"
"Chuy, you're going to have a magical life. Because no matter where you go, it's always going to be better than Tucson."
"It's a slippery slope... beer, liquor, dope, coke, meth, chicks with dicks, then jail!"
*Steve Coogan, in the pain of writer's block, looks calmy over at the cat on his desk next to him* "What the fuck is your problem man?"

Such, SUCH a funny movie. Just finished it. Have you seen this JMT? Hysterical.

I was curious about that movie. I remember seeing ads for it, and I downloaded "Rock Me Sexy Jesus" when they released it for promotion. So would you recommend it X?

Yeah, lol you couldn't pick that up from my post?

Yeah definately see it if you can, it's got a very crazy sense of humor that is just my taste and I was laughing through out most of the movie. Most comedies I laugh out loud for a few bits here and there, but I was laughing constantly during Hamlet 2.

Gonna work up a review for it right now for my thread.

I just wanted to double check and make sure there wasn't any sarcasm mixed in, lol. I'm a fan of over-the-top and/or 'I can't believe they said that' comedy. I will pick it up if I get a chance.

Hey JMT (or Murf or anyone really), did you ever see In the Valley of Elah? I like Haggis, but I've heard mixed things about it, wondering if I should record it or not.

No, I've been meaning to though. I'll definitely get around to it now.

Yes, and I wasn't a big fan to be honest. I just thought it was dull as hell and that the acting was all forced and not natural. But you ought to take this with a grain of salt because I think Tommy Lee Jones is one of the most overrated actors in history and even though I try to look at everything with an open-mind, my dislike for him may have clouded my judgment a bit.

I'll check it out tomorrow then. All I know is it's got Holly Marie Combs and she's the only Charmed sister I have yet to see in anything else

I'm thinking about watching a horror movie called Dr. Giggles. anyone know if it's worth my time?

Dude WATCH THAT SHIT RIGHT NOW!

It's an awful movie, but oh my god it's so hilariously bad that it's mega enjoyable. Seriously, if you like cheesy horror movies you'll love it, hilarious stuff!

Think I'll skip out on Elah based on your views JMT.

No, it sucks major ass. Do you have Comcast On Demand? I think I get Encore for free, and I saw that POS on the list of on demand films they currently have available. I think I saw Child's Play 3 on there as well, and that's another POS. I think they have Hellraiser Parts 1 and 2 on there right now. Never been a big fan of Pinhead, but I'd recommend watching those over Dr. Giggles.

Going to bed here within tyhe hour so I can't watch it now. It's On Demand though so I can watch it whenever.

Another Horror movie I plan on watching is Hellraiser III. I saw the first 2 and was wondering if the third was one as good, better or worse than them?

What is it on Fearnet or something?

Yeah I totally agree tdigle it's a piece of shit, but it's endlessly enjoyable if you love cheesy horror B-movies. You brought up Childs Play 3, which is another piece of shit that I think is really enjoyable as the cheesy film it is.

Why can't people enjoy bad movies sometimes?

Encore On Demand actually. Same place I saw the first 2 Hellraiser movies. Pinhead is quickly passing Freddy as my favorite Horror Villian

Hellraiser is so overrated. The original is good, not great. The second film is crap with only a moment here and there that prevents it from being a failure, and everything after that is just pointless to attempt watching.

Besides, Michael Myers is the greatest slasher of all time, not even a contest. Halloween is probably the greatest horror film ever.
