Bullshit about Movies

Hugh Laurie is enough to make me watch anything. Street Kings has been on my DVR list for awhile now.

Just saw Waltz With Bashir...man, I haven't floored by a movie like that in a minute! I'm definitely going to have to watch it at least two more times, as it seems like there's a lot there to digest. I would love to know what other people thought about it.

I'm getting ready to watch Tropic Thunder in a little bit.

It was alright for me. Nothing special, but it didn't suck out loud like a lot of other movies. I'd re-watch it. I'm also not the biggest fan of guys like Jack Black, so that may have effected it a bit.

I'm sure I'll catch some heat for admitting this, but I haven't seen it yet. I tell ya man, if it's a new release, I won't get around to it until like a year later. I still haven't seen Iron Man yet.

Same. I buy movies used from Blockbuster, 4 for $20, so it takes a bit before I get my hands on them.

Waltz With Bashir is amazing tdigle, I remember hearing an interview with the filmmaker on NPR, and I was just so astonished by this guy's story that I had to see the film. Saw it at the local arthouse theater and was equally floored as you. One of the most unconventionally fantastic war films ever made, though it's really about so much more then just war.

That's a highly recommended flick right there.

Anyone ever seen Gus Van Sant's Gerry? Contemplating TIVOing it.

I was contemplating watching that myself. Great actors, great director, but the movie is the first of "Death Trilogy". I've seen the other two (Elephant and Last Days), and wasn't too much of a fan, which is why I never bothered watching this I guess. If it's like Elephant and Last Days, then all the film is going to be is Matt Damon and Casey Affleck walking in the dessert without either of them talking much, and both dying by the end of the film. So, yeah.. it's probably not that enjoyable.

With that said, I at least want to say I've seen it, so I'm probably going to finally watch it nonetheless.

Yeah I couldn't stand Last Days. I love Van Sant, but that film was a giant piece of shit. Why do I want to watch Michael Pitt walk around the forest for an hour and half without saying a single word? I've been obsessed with Nirvana and Cobain since I was a little kid, and not even the fact that it was about Cobain could save that piece of shit. Awful, AWFUL movie.

On the other hand though I absolutely loved Elephant. You didn't dig it? I thought it was fantastic, always have. I think I'll just have to catch Gerry another time though, I already have far too many movies on my DVR.

NO nononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononono

It's dumb, and I went in there wanting to like it.

Just got done watching Richard Linklater's "Tape". Fucking amazing, Linklater never fails to mesmerize me. There's only 3 actors in the entire film: Ethan Hawke, Robert Sean Leonard, and Uma Thurman (who doesn't show up until the last 20 minutes) and every one of them is flat-out amazing, especially Hawke and Leonard. This is probably the best role I've ever seen Ethan Hawke in, he's got a lot more talent than I've ever given him credit for.

I'll put up a review for the film at some point tonight.

Anyone seen it? JMT? tdigle? Murf?

I actually liked Last Days more than I liked Elephant. At least Last Days felt like it could've really been Kurt Cobain's last days on Earth. And plus... you know I'm a HUGE fan of Michael Pitt, so he playing Cobain made it tolerable for me to sit through the entire thing. Also, I absolutely loved the scene where Pitt sings "Death to Birth". But I agree, overall, it is a bad movie, but Elephant just disappointed me much, much more. I saw this before I saw Last Days, so my expectations were high for it. I thought we were finally going to see a legit biographical film on the Columbine shooting, and I just felt about it the way you felt about Last Days: It bored the ever living hell out of me and it was just an awful film. The school shooting scene were shot well, but everything before that was absolute crap, in my opinion. It was almost as bad as Heart of America (the one Uwe Boll film I almost sat through from start to finish.... almost)

No I haven't seen that one. I will though since you liked it, and since I am a fan of some of Richard Linklater's other work.

Watching Snakes on a Plane on tv now.

Wants to rent Twilight to rip it apart with my friends.

Wants to see a few movies in theaters this weekend.

Snakes on a Plane is fucking epic. I had a BLAST going to see that movie in theaters. I was the ONLY one there, and I just sat there tripping my face off and smoking a bowl IN THE THEATER. That's how empty it was. Good times, I had a blast seeing that movie.

It's obviously crap, but it's that special kind of crap that you can watch 10,000 times and never get tired of. Shit I might just pop my DVD of it in tonight.

X, I know how you love your shitty movies.... well, I think I've come across the greatest shitty movie of all time. Enjoy.

...Fucking awesome. I must find that movie, ASAP.

I went against Murf's word and watched Eagle Eye today. Save yourself 2 hours and don't watch it JMT, just downright atrocious from beginning to end. Not to mention the ending was the biggest ripoff of The Man Who Knew Too Much that I've ever seen. This director desperately wants to be Hitchcock but instead comes off as a 3rd rate Michael Bay imposter. Just crap from beginning to end, and not the good kind of crap like you just posted. Avoid it.

I should have heeded your words Murf. I just ripped Eagle Eye a new asshole in my review thread. Utter crap.

May or may not finally get around to watching Hancock or WALL-E tonight. Not sure.

Anyone have thoughts on Shoot 'em up?

X, Wall-e is pretty decent, I felt it was just a 2 hour filler of my life though. Nothing really, happens. Hancock has good green screaning, thats about it OH! and Will smith. Thats always a plus.

Shoot 'Em Up is a fun, cheesy action flick. Don't even REMOTELY take the film seriously, and you'll have a great time. Not a great movie, but very fun.

I watched it yesterday, I found it to be very interesting myself. "You know what I Hate _________" is pretty awesome, sounds like my old man. Logic is skewed so much its not funny, but yeah, that was fairly entertaining, and the quickest 87 minutes of my life.

What are some good Thrillers to watch? I'm not sure if I just hate the genre of movie, or if I just can't find the right Thriller I want to see.
