Budget Update: There is a Deal

klunderbunker

Welcome to My (And Not Sly's) House
There are rumors of the Dems and GOP going around the Tea Party for the sake of a deal, which would see about 39 billion dollars in cuts. No word on where that would come from or what the GOP gets as a consolation prize. The White House has to agree to it though which is far from a guarantee. They would probably not be able to pass this tonight so they would get a brief (maybe a week) extension and go from there.

Again, just rumors at this point but it's a good sign.

Bit different to me as a lot of my family are veterans or seniors and live off their checks that way. And if there's an extension it would stay the same with you assuming you know nothing I don't, which you probably do.

Yea, and in all likelyhood, they will still get shorted on them, since this took so long. Maybe not though, that might just be us. The whole process for us was started early, like they pre emptively had our pay cut in half. Its hard for me to explain, but we have a system were you can veiw how much your next check will be 7 days in advance, and the amounts were already in there, so this was decided weeks ago.

Like I said, for us. Might be different for your folks.

Update.

There IS a deal. It will now be reviewed by the three parties (House, Senate, President) but it's probably just a quick extension, as in like 3 days. Somehow that's a relief.

Apparently the House Republicans has agreed to a 6-7 day extension. No word from the Senate or the White House.

Also just as an aside: this 39 billion dollars in cuts = 1.02% of the whole budget. That's what we're fighting over.

It's not over yet. This is a continuing resolution, not a budget.

However I'm glad I was mostly wrong here.

A continuation is better then nothing at this point. It beats the alternative of one side puffing their chest out and walking away. We'll see how it plays out.

This is true. I think it said 5-7 days. Even Bachman said wait for later for the big fights: the debt ceiling (scary stuff) and the 2012 budget (absurd stuff).

It's a continuing resolution into next week but that's better than nothing. Basically they need more time to get this debated and voted on and the vote will come in the middle of next week.

According to Reid it's through Thursday and the total cuts is 79 billion. Not a big deal really, but it takes the money away from the wrong places.

No there won't be. It's not 100% yet but through Thursday we're set. Keep in mind though: this is like the dark match before Wrestlemania. The big dance starts this coming week.
