I read a little piece at pwtorch.com, an opinion piece by James Cadwell, in which he believes that WWE MAY be setting up a Daniel Bryan vs. Vince McMahon feud in which there's long term animosity between them like we saw during the Austin vs. McMahon feuds. They're obviously not going to rehash with the same formula for the two as Bryan is a very different character from Austin. I doubt we'll see Bryan flipping Vince the bird or letting loose a string of four letter words redneck style, even though he looks more like a redneck than Austin ever did.
If this does indeed look to be some sort of an ongoing feud between them, then I'm guessing that Vince has plans for Daniel Bryan to be a long term, top level star in WWE. Whenever Vince gets involved with someone as part of a "feud", it usually means that this person is destined for big things. During the Attitude Era, we saw Vince have feuds with Stone Cold, The Rock, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley, & The Undertaker. Two years ago, we saw the beginning of CM Punk being elevated to the upper tier of the company with his anti-corporate rebel character in which he was into it with Vince and Triple H. Punk's storyline issues with Vince would continue occasionally off & on during Punks 434 day run as WWE Champion. Vince's various programs with Punk weren't nearly as physical as they were with Attitude Era stars, hardly surprising considering that Vince is well into his 60s, and will be 68 years old by the end of next month. Bottom line is that whenever Vince engages in a storyline feud with a member of the roster, it's a good sign for that wrestler.
Last night's segment on Raw was a good progression of this in which it moved from Vince merely hinting at Bryan's inadequacies or "voicing" them through his "puppet" like Brad Maddox. Bryan wasn't all super aggressive towards Vince last night, or vice versa, but he sort of used Vince's own words against him to sort of put him in his place, at least for that particular segment. Vince's insults to Bryan's appearance didn't go over the top while Bryan's somewhat casual response to Vince wasn't too casual. They didn't try to do too much last night, which I think is the way to go about it.
Later on in the night, Vince said that he didn't want Bryan or Cena to be WWE Champion but that he wanted it to be someone like Triple H, only 20+ years younger. To me, this seems to be more little hints that Randy Orton is going to be aligning with Vince for the purpose of Orton being what, in Vince's mind, the WWE Champion should be. After all, Orton's got the handsome appearance and the "ruthless aggression".
So is this something that you're interested in?
Do you think it has the necessary steam to last possibly even to WrestleMania if they pace it out?
Could this ultimately mean big things for Daniel Bryan's WWE future long term?
