Breaking News: Florida Fedral Judge Delcares Obamacare Unconstitutional!

You make the choice to drive a car, and therefore car insurance. So it's not forced on you the same way health insurance is. You shouldn't have to pay simply for being alive.

You said this in the last thread about health care too. Can you elaborate on this? If you're not penalized for not having health insurance, then what is the mandate?

In short, it is required to have insurance. If you do not meet said requirement, you face zero fine and zero jail time and zero punishment. I think what you lose is a tax break of some sort but there is no fine and/or jail time if you don't get insurance.

The penalty is assessed through the Code and accounted for as an additional amount of Federal tax owed.

It seems there IS a penalty.

So it's about semantics then?

I'm seeing someone owing money because of a lack of health insurance as a penalty, regardless of it having anything to do with taxes.

Your paying extra for not having something. It's a clever way of saying fine Without saying fine.

Isn't everything in government?

And again, there is ZERO reason why someone shouldn't have it. Spare me the bullshit about YOU'RE TAKING OUR FREEDOM away please.

Because the government shouldn't have the power to make these decision for people. I agree, there's no reason why everyone shouldn't have health insurance under this new policy, but they shouldn't be fined for not having it.

Yes they should because too many people are too stupid to do it for themselves and it burdens the country as a result. The rest of the world has this and *shock and awe shock and awe* IT WORKS FINE.

This. Look at any country with socialized medicine, it works fantastic. Fox News would tell you otherwise, but most Canadians love their health system, and the same can be said for the UK.

As for the extra tax thing, consider thing:

People without health insurance that go to the hospitals are covered by the taxpayers. If they feel they're too good to take care of themselves and leech off others, I have zero issue with them paying more.

KB is on fuckin' fire tonight. All I see are people thinking that everyone on or in need of assistance is a crack-smoking freeloader or people who have a bug up their ass because they don't like being told they have to do something even if they are going to do it anyway.

The thing is that this being overturned and thrown out might be the best thing possible for the Democrats and Obama.

Let's say this is overturned at the beginning of next year. That's before the mandate, that's before a lot of the unpopular things kick in. At that point, the things that would be overturned would be as follows:

Kids being able to stay on their parents policies until they're 26
Extra benefits for senior citizens
Easier access to coverage for small businesses

In other words, the GOP would be THRILLED to take away access to healthcare to young adults, seniors and people that work in small businesses. The problem right now is that healthcare reform has gotten very popular very fast due to those things I just listed. If it's repealed, those people are not going to be happy. If the people are furious, that gives Obama and the Dems the opening to get a much bigger package passed, such as public option or single payer. This might be a BIG loss to the GOP in the long run.

Wasn't it Mitt Romney, the GOP Mormon God, that passed legislation to require everyone in his state to buy medical insurance as a "basic responsibility" thing? Like having to get car insurance if you drive a car.

I've mental problems, so I need something set up so that I can actually get medical insurance when TriCARE kicks me off when I turn 24. If that means Obama's healthcare plan, I'm good with it.

Also, I would have sucked Obama's dick if he actually just passed a 20 page legislative package that allowed everyone to buy into TriCARE if they wanted to. He could appoint a Czar to set the prices, and suddenly the health insurance companies have competition. No more being bitches because a guy has an elbow ache before he officially signed the bottom line on his insurance contract.

But hey. Instead, we get this great legal battle that will simply end when it hits the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court rules it constitutional along the same lines Romney had argued it those years ago. Before he was a republican front runner for President, of course.
