Boxing vs. MMA

Wow a lot has been said about the MMA vs Boxing in the past that most of what has been said on here was echoed in similar wording. Boxing has had it's time and while it i still pulling good numbers MMA as a whole has exploded into different states in the US constantly selling out and internationally selling out in record times. Now we can sit here and measure training methods and imaginary advantages or we can look at some facts.

Boxing is a trained contact sport, which has been around since Broughtons rules, evolved into the Londons Prize Rules and the rules your accustomed to in the modern area which is Marquess of Queensberry.

Both have been through similar stories through being branded too rough, too thuggish and too barbaric and the rest of it, actually to a point where UFC (in this case MMA as a whole) was banned from being broadcasted in it's main draw, the United States while Boxing in it's blackest day was nearly wiped into obscurity. Both have been through there fair share of critcs and nay-sayers. In this case they are similar.

MMA Pros:
- MMA has since 2005 exploded internationally at an alarming (or awesome rate IMO) to qucily becoming the fastest rising sport.

- Fighters are continually being shown as regularly shown to be just like everyone else (the counter to this is in the cons)

- Fighters are gaining exposure in movies with most directors pulling for these fighters (eg: Randy Couture in Mummy, Cradle to the Grave, etc also with Chuck being in boom television show Entourage, also in Cradle to the Grave himself) are only acouple of the fighters who have gained world wide exposure and elite sponsorships.

MMA Cons:
- Fighters are often too eager to live the fast approach to life and often land in hot water with authorities.

- Critics are often using examples of fighters being nothing but cave man fighters who would rather beat someone up than win a fight (if that makes sense).

Boxing:
- Boxers have enjoyed greater paydays over the long haul with Oscar De La Hoya vs Mayweather being the biggest fight in boxing history pulling over $120,000,000 in revenue, with De La Hoya taking $52,000,000 home while winner and 2 time crowned champion Mayweather took home a solid $25,000,000.

- Boxers have long enjoyed great gate takings and fight revenue.

- Boxers like Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson and Leonix Lewis have enjoyed or despised being known as bigger than boxing commodities.

Boxing Cons:
- Boxing has had it's own brush with the law with Tyson being in and out of the papers and the police station over his career with others in the past being known to have dropped fights for financial gain.

- Boxing over the past 4-5 years has being on the decline, now this might be a shock but gate takings haven't been steady in years and show a decline in gate revenue and attendance.

Now i have shown both positive and negative sides of the war, I might later post a side i go on. But this might help you in thinking og the better sport over just aspect of head movement and hand peed.

I'd like to say something about what constitutes a 'bitch move'. A bitch move is something anyone can do, without any skill whatsoever. A bitch move is poking someone in the eye, kicking them in the nuts, head-butting. Those are things literally ANYONE can do.

You think an arm-bar is a bitch move? I'd love to see you try to arm-bar even a purple belt in jiu-jitsu, and then get your arm ripped out of it's socket.

An arm bar is a move using quick reaction timing, leverage and momentum. It isn't the most of skilled moves in BJJ.

I'd hardly call an arm bar a bitch move, seeing as it is legal in all governing bodies of mma and widely recognised as a fast finisher. It has long been a move that can cause severe damage in such a short amount of time. Saying that it is a bitch move just proves the ignorance of your points and voids any authenticity or credibility you might have had before hand.
