Booker T... Are You Starting To Like Him?

Some people are just so awful they make you want to turn off the TV whenever they open their mouth. But sometimes, for whatever reason, you'll find yourself liking them 6 months later.

Vickie Guerrero. I legitimately hated Vickie for SO long. I felt she was ruining everything she came in contact with, and wanted her fired as soon as possible. Now, I love her. I want her to be THE wrestling manager like Bobby Heenan was before her. One of the biggest heels in wrestling, and I can't get enough... I don't know how it happened, but I'm not a Vickie fan.

Micheal Cole. There's not a single person alive that liked Cole over the course of the last year. Every time the Anon GM sounded off I feared for that man's life. He single-handedly ruined commentary in the WWE for months, and I even muted Raw a few times because I just couldn't take it anymore. His matches are terrible and wasted too much time. But for whatever reason, I'm over it. He's actually a decent commentator, and he has his heel character under control so it makes sense. He puts over the heels and that does wonders for the Miz, Jack Swagger, Dolph Ziggler, etc. I dont' love him, but I no longer have dreams about killing him in a dark alley...

So, Booker T. Easily the worst commentary guy since Mike Adamle. He just hasn't gotten any better, he never knows what the hell he's talking about, and...I might be slowly turning the corner on him. I still hate him, and I still cringe whenever I see him join the Raw booth. But at the very least I love watching Josh Matthews and Cole react to the stupid things he says. (see picture below) He now has sayings that you wait to hear every week, and he's the guy you love to make fun of. Like I said, I still hate him...but I wonder if I will 3 months from now.

I always liked Booker T. He is a great addition on the commentary team. He and Cole makes a hilarious combination and I always LOL'd when listening to them. The worst commentator for me is Matt Striker. Just let him do the interviews.

As for Booker T, just don't go back to being King Booker and he will be fine.

Booker isn't a top talent as a commentator, in the classic sense anyways. He's entertaining and can add much more to the matches that he's calling if only Michael Cole would stop going out of his way to make Booker look/sound stupid. Like Cole is any kind of talent in the first place? Ugh. I would kick him to the curb if I had the authority, can't stand what he brings to the broadcast.

I'd much rather have Grishom, Stryker, JR, Matthews and Booker on the mic than Cole. Cole is legitimately irritating to listen to. He's not getting over with the fans whatsoever, he's truly aggravating people with his nonstop b.s. Commentary is 100% more enjoyable without Michael Cole.

Booker can't call a match, but he's supposed to be a color commentator, adding a few bits of insight into the action, his experience in the ring under similar situations and if he's allowed to freakin' speak without being insulted like a red headed step child, he does that fairly well.

I've always loved Booker T but I am in the very small minority, I know. It is the same part of me that loves 'Insane Dusty Commentary' bits on Botchamania. He is endearing and funny and tries to put guys over, even if he isn't always very good at it.

Michael Cole gets worse with EVERY show, seemingly and genuinely makes me want to turn the television off. And as I said I'd boycott Raw for the next month at least, he is a part of that.

I don't think anyone in sports entertainment broadcasting history was as bad as Mike Adamle. He had the tools and experience to do better, but he chose to not learn about the product he was working with....i.e. professional wrestling. His ignorance of the subject was downright embarrassing.

Booker, on the other hand, was pretty bad when he first joined WWE as an announcer. He had been away from the company for too long and wasn't up on the latest developments, which made it hard for him to comment on things he was unfamiliar with. Plus, he had no experience I know of as a broadcaster.

But, you know what? He's getting better as he goes along. He's interested in the inner-workings of the company and cares about the people he works with. As time goes on, he's looking less at the monitor on the table and watching the action in the ring more. It often takes people time to come to grips with a new job, especially one as visible as a TV announcer. Booker's improved a lot.

Just a point of reference to the OP. Some of your statements are very blunt and all-encompassing.

I'm no Michael Cole fan, but I wouldn't presume to say that no one in the world likes him. If you don't, that's fine..... but you'll find yourself getting arguments from people when you assign your values and opinions to everyone else.

Cole is the worse commentator ever simply because he only cares about putting himself over and disparaging the other commentators. Everyone he works with I feel sorry for at least Grishem escaped to ESPN (made his debut this weekend) Striker was good for his gimmick (I am Matt Striker and I am your teacher) Striker is the wrestling aficionado he's suppose to be the know it all but at every turn there's Cole putting him down, JR how many bad fat jokes are we going to hear from Cole,King sometimes I feel he's just putting up with it for a paycheck,Josh Mathews feels like the third wheel and if Cole can STFU maybe Mathews can shine a bit more, and now the Booker Man. He's new to this Cole is the worse absolutely worse person for a newbie to be paired with. I said it once and I'll say it again team Booker up with JR. JR's expertise with Taz and Paul E. was great, he calmed them down and let them be themselves and at the same time taught them how to tell the in ring story along with an upcoming story something Cole does not do. He just talks over everyone else and the only face he puts over is Cena sometimes.

fave 5... cmon booker is the man...and he works very good commentary with michael cole, they take jabs at each other cole seems to really like booker, plus booker is funny and an entertainer he played king booker as the champ...and we were all in on the joke. booker is doing exactly what he should be doing color commentary.

I don't like Booker T. I love Booker T! And no he's not the best on commentary. But he brings a little urban slang whenever there's someone getting there's in the ring. Like when Mark Henry destoryed Rey Mysterio on Smackdown after this years draft. And Booker T said that "Mark Henry is doing dirt right now!". I just laughed!

If Vince McMahon says that Booker is doing a great job on commentary. Then just let him be. He's better than JBL on commentary before he left the WWE.

I like Booker T, he's improved since his first days and he's getting better.

Michael Cole I've liked for awhile and I consider him to be one of the most underrated announcers. I have huge problems with him not hyping heels properly and burying faces instead of throwing light jabs, but he's improved as well.

Still, Josh Matthews is the best announcer in the WWE today IMO. Can't wait for him to be full-time on Raw with Lawler and Cole.

Booker T... Lest face it, he sucks. He's repetitive and has no clue what's going in the ring half the time. All he talks about is his Fave 5 and doesn't really pay attention to the action in the ring. Vince likes him because of the street attitude that he brings to commentary but come on really? What kind of attitude or personality is one that just says "are you serious" and "did that just happen" throughout an entire match. People may not like Cole but at least every once in a while he tries to call a match. Booker T is the second worst commentator behind the one and only... Mike Adamle. Talk about some unique company.

Booker T makes me feel racist when I listen to him.
He's worse than Dusty Rhodes, he just makes such random off the wall comments that it throws me off. It's not so bad when it's once in a while, but hearing him talking about "I Saw a black spot on his boot" makes me want to turn off my television.
Don't get me wrong, he was nice for a nostalgia bump, and I don't mind seeing him out here or there, but he just doesn't work for me in a weekly commentator slot.

He isn't as bad as Jeff Harvey Adamle.

He drew serious heat as King Booker. That was the last time I actually watched him in recent memory. That gimmick could have easily went a lot longer than it did if he would have stayed. But as far as a commentator, it's just not for him and that's ok. he's a wrestler by nature. I really don't know why WWE is waisting him back behind that damn table. But I will go back to liking him once he stays in the ring. He's in great shape still.

Booker T on commentary is awesome. He's completely hilarious and above all else confusing and you keep second guessing what the hell he just said, it's funny. He's like the modern day version of Randy Savage on commentary, completely all over the place but when their in the heat of the moment he completely loses it.

Oh my, where to begin on this one? Booker T, commentary. Absolutely HORRIBLE! The few weeks he was ring side, I muted the TV and went with closed caption. I got soooo sick of hearing " DOG! WOAH! DID YOU SEE THAT?!" Seriously, is that all this guy says? And his voice is enough to make me want to watch 2 and a Half Men. He brings nothing to the table, he knows nothing of whats going on, and is simply not needed. Then theres Cole, He is not needed either. He calls none of the matches, he gets Jerry side tracked so he calls none of the work and is totally disruptive.
Bring back the way it worked, J.R. and The King. We dont need all the bantering, we need someone to call the matches, a face and a some what heel. Then for the first time in a loooong time, listening to the show will be fun again.

I hate Booker on commentary. Love the guy, but hate his commentary. He has about 5 lines, 5 lines, he uses. Oh, I'm sorry, 6 lines. Always forget that last one. But what bothers me the most is that he's ruining the Sin Cara fued. It's finally starting to get rolling and be interesting and Booker makes it so confusing. He keeps saying he thinks the Hunico Sin Cara is the real one when Cole and Josh are obviously pushing for him to say it right. And then them trying to explain the name taking game without using the name "Mistico" made it even worse but that's another story. But I really realized it during that Cara Gabriel match last Friday, that I absolutely cannot tolerate another week of Booker T announcing. The rest of the show was just a mess for me in terms of commentary, and it will continue to be until he's gone. They wanna bring Mick Foley back? Put him in Booker's place. Anyone else, please. Just not Booker.

Josh Matthews is most definitely a diamond in the rough!! He has the potential to be the best WWE since JR!! Cole i have hated him for so long now i just put up with him i guess!! I would definitely notice if he wasnt there!! Booker T mumbles really doesnt know what the hell he is talking about but at the same time its hella funny to listen to him!! The king lost his touch along time ago hes only in it for a pay check anyhoo!!

I think you have made a very silly post. Booker T is quite entertaining. He isnt a play by play commentator, he is a color commentator. He shits all over Mike Adamlie, he was THE WORST in WWE history. Booker T comes across as oddball and goofy at times, this is the objective. NOTHING goes to air without Vinces approval.

I would definetly rather see Booker T. in the ring then at the announce table. When he returned at the Rumble it was great because I thought he was actually going to get back in the ring. But then when he came out, at a Smackdown, I belive, and went over to the announce table and started comentating it took all the joy of seeing him back away. He does remind me of the late Macho Man, with the strainded, horse voice, not a voice for comentating.IMO. Hope he gets back in the ring in a feud with Cody Rhodes, after being given a paper bag once too often.(lol)

Booker T is hilarious as hell, and honestly without booker in the Smackdown announce team the show would be stale watching Cole pick on Josh the whole show.

I totally agree about the Sin Cara thing. It's plain as day to anyone paying attention that Sin Cara "Azul" as they call him is the original Sin Cara, and that Sin Cara "Negro" is the new one who is trying to seek revenge on the blue one for allegedly stealing his Mistico name years ago in Mexico. Michael Cole and Josh Matthews have even tried explaining it but Booker T just keeps acting stupid and arguing with them like they just made it up or something. Whether he wants to believe the black Sin Cara or not is irrelevent; why would you want to disprove a storyline they are trying to push. That storyline is the only thing giving this feud any credibility. Without that backstory, both Sin Caras just look silly. I don't know why Booker T can't see that.

I'm seriously starting to wonder if Booker T is just playing a character and just acting stupid and annoying, or if he really is just stupid and annoying in real life. But he's still on the air so Vince must like him. I'd love to be a fly on the wall listening to Vince listen to Booker's commentary.

Oh, and not everyone hates Michael Cole. I think he's funny.

Firstly y the heat on michael cole. Hes nowhere near the worst. Anyone remember BEFORE he turned heel. He was an awesome face commentator. Him and tazz on smackdown were awesome. So i pray for the day michael cole drops the heel gimmick and goes back to being face.

As for booker, id u want play by play sorry ur not going to get it. Booker t was never meant to be play by play. Hes there to add a little humour with his accent and mannerisms. I find him and cole arguing one of the funniest things about smackdown. And josh matthews in the middle listening to both of them.

But still 02-04 commentary was the best jr and king on raw and cole and tazz on smackdown. Minus coach on raw. But coach was good as well. And please no comparisons to adamle. That guy was a new low.
