You could give him a gimmick very similar to what I did with Jack Swagger during one of the joint promotions. Pretty much Swagger targeted Triple H (made sense due to the fact the E was no longer a company so he called Triple H out for being a phony). However this could easily be done in the E with Ted saying that he doesn't want to live in the shadow of his father's legacy and he wants to cast out his own. So instead of calling out Triple H, Ted is pretty much calling out his father and his family's legacy in professional wrestling. Have him pretty much disown his father and his family (hell maybe a name change would be proper, though not totally necessary). Ted doesn't want the association with his family's legacy and have him work from the ground up. Hell have him struggle and claw and make it seem like it is impossible for him to avoid what he can't avoid. Even take the unrealistic approach where Ted starts getting unstable and constantly hears his father's laughter and catchphrases as he roams the back (much like they did with Kane during his schizo type thing during See No Evil). Finally down the road Ted can start to achieve some of the success he felt he was capable of reaching. Sounds confusing, but it is just an idea.
