The contender with the most points in the series at the end of the night gets a World Heavyweight Title shot at Bound for Glory. Going into the night the Leaders were as follows: Bully Ray (49), Bobby Roode (42), Gunner (42), and James Storm (40). Bully Ray simply needed to win the match via pinfall or submission in order to continue in the series uncontested. The other three in the series would require a submission victory to pass Bully Ray if he lost. Bully Ray won by Disqualification and brought him to 52 pts. requiring the winner of the other BFG Series match to win by submission in order to tie with Bully Ray and stay alive in the series. The battle between Bobby Roode and Gunner resulted in Roode getting the submission victory and bringing him to 52 pts tying with Bully Ray. After Roode’s win Bischoff dictated there will be a winner in the BFG Series tonight and created a match between Roode and Ray. In the newly added match, Bobby Roode defeated Bully Ray making him the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Title at Bound for Glory in Philadelphia.

Bully Ray used the same tactics he utilized early in the night with controlling the pace at the start of the match by going in and out of the ring. Roode seemed to be unaffected by Bully Ray’s chops and made his distaste for Bully Ray known which mentally got to Ray. Mind games continued between the two throughout the match. After Roode dropped a massive Spinebuster on Ray, Roode got the pin to become the #1 contender for the World Heavyweight Title.

As it stands at the moment, discounting a new champion being crowned between now and October 16th, it appears that Bobby Roode will be going one-on-one with still TNA World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle to headline Bound For Glory.

As a Roode fan and someone who's been calling for him to be elevated to the main event for a few years now, I'm quite excited about this. Not only does this vindicate the hard work Roode has been putting into TNA for 7 years, but it also appeases the demands of so many internet fans (on two accounts) who've been clamoring not only for new stars to be created but also for TNA originals to be pushed.

Thoughts on this? Was the right man chosen to win it all or did you have someone else pegged to win it all?

When I saw the scores at the beginning of the night, I thought Roode and Ray were going to tie and make it a triple threat at BFG.

I was a bit disappointed that James Storm lost though, but maybe a push is coming for him down the line.

As for Ray? His two matches tonight kept making me think how good of a heel the guy actually is. Annoying everyone with his antics at the beginning of each match, his promos before the matches, terrific crowd interaction {tearing up the sign and taking the guys hat off made me chuckle), and his in ring work isn't even that bad. The Roode/Ray match for me was MOTN. The crowd was in to it, Roode was intense, and Ray played the heel teriffically. The only let down I thought was the ending - it was a little anticlimatic. I think Roode needs a new finisher, the spinebuster can be a signature move of his, kinda like HHH.

I'm glad Roode won though, and I'm looking forward to the Angle/Roode match as both are great wrestlers worthy of putting on a show at BFG. I'm also curious as to where Storm and Ray go from here. Hopefully not forgotten. Both belong in the upper card/main event.

I Couldn't be More Excitied and Happy for Robert Rhoode all of his hard work and after 7 years in TNA he will be headlining the biggest PPV of the year and will most likely face Kurt Angle. Rhoode to me was the Best to choice win the BFG Series. I Can't wait for the next 5 weeks leading up to BFG and see Rhoode cement himself as a Main Eventer and Star for TNA.

I very rarely watch TNA so I’m not really qualified to answer this, but it seems good to me. When I have watched TNA Roode was always one guy who caught my attention. He seems like an old school heel to me and I think he would make a good champion. It’s nice that someone who has been working for TNA for so long is getting a title match. It seems unless your name is AJ Styles you have to have a WWE resume to get a main event push in TNA. With that said, I hope Roode will have a WWE resume someday. I’ve been wanting him to jump ship for a while now.

Meh, Roode is the best they got nowadays? He's always been pretty average in my book, should have a good match with Angle though, providing Kurt doesn't get arrested/die before then. But you'd think they'd do better for the main event of BFG, unless of course it's Flair/Hogan or Sting or whatever that shit in the main event, in which case, you can still get better than Roode to be the numba 1 contendah. Obviously better than freaking Ray though.

I just hope, for the sake of TNA's future, that they let Robert Roode win the TNA Championship. It'll be a great way to build up and get back to what TNA is all about, TNA. Not former WWE superstars, intoxicated wrestlers, or Hulk Hogan, but to build up the young guys for the future. Also, add to the fact that Kurt is not getting any younger, or smarter, and is not going to be in TNA forever.

I think Roode wins at BFG, and TNA starts the healing process from the Hogan/Bischoff era, and becomes the alternative again.

BUT TNA DOESN'T BUILD YOUNGER STARS AND ALL THEY RELY ON IS WWE REJ-aw shut the fuck up.

Yes, Bobby Roode won the series as expected (and hoped for) by many a mark. Couldn't have picked a better wrestler to win this. It was long overdue and tonight Roode proved exactly why he's the freaking future. The guy is just amazing. He's intense, he's got the most "in your face" it factor I've seen in a long time and he simply reminds me of one of those wrestlers that are just meant to Main Event with gold around their waists.

Couldn't be happier for Roode and for TNA for giving him a chance to shine. I have zero doubts he'll win the belt at Bound for Glory so the future seems bright for TNA and Roode. Hopefully they keep their attention on him after he wins the belt as well.

You strike the iron when it's hot and Roode is white hot at the moment. Give that guy the belt, present him as a Main Eventer, book him as a Main Eventer, advertise him as a Main Eventer and keep him at the top of the card 90% of the time. Roode's the way to go right now. Next up: James Storm, Crimson and Gunner.

Props to Bully Ray too. It was obvious that all the storytelling was a product of his imagination. Ray is one of the most talented guys in TNA and he put over Roode like a million bucks. That was a completely selfless act and all Roode had to do is sit there and play it off while Ray did all the work. This is the type of a wrestler you need. No egos, no bullshit, just talent. That's something a lot of people miss. If you make the other guy look good and also take care of yourself in a match, the contest is great and you both look good, even though you made the other guy look better than you did. That's a ring general right there. Reminds me of what Jericho and Michaels do in the ring. Ray knows he'll get his World Title run in the future, and it'll be a sweet one.

Given the circumstances, Roode was certainly the best choice. He is new to the main event scene, the fans have gotten behind him, every part of this works. Unfortunately, it's a little tainted.

I'm not sure what the original plans were and we'll never know, but I have to think that Matt Morgan would have been a MAJOR player in this thing. That guys is more over than basically anyone and would have literally been the perfect candidate to win. Hell, Morgan vs. Angle even sounds better than Roode vs. Angle but as long as it's not Anderson anymore, I'm a pretty happy guy.

Step 1 is complete. You did the right thing for once, TNA. Now, don't screw it up by having Roode lose or turn heel. He must win the title as a babyface at BFG. Crown a new face champion and let him run with it. It sucks for Morgan but it's sink or swim time for Roode. Let's see how he does.

On a side note, I don't think Crimson was ever in line to win this thing. WAY too soon to have him do that and despite the fact that booking him out of the tournament while in the lead kind of ruins the tournament, it was the right move in m opinion. No one understood the tournament anyway so the only important thing was getting a new face to win it. Mission accomplished, now on to step 2.

Not a huge fan of Roode anymore but I can certainly get behind this. It's been a good minute since TNA has built up a proper babyface World Title win and with Roode being one of the guys who has waited years for the opportunity, he's the perfect candidate. They just need to play it simple. No fucking over the top theatrics, just let him go in to it as the underdog like he should.

They have a nice thing going here but I swear to God if they turn him heel in the process I am flat out done with TNA. Period. He needs to win and he needs to remain face. It doesn't have to be squeaky clean, but the cleaner the better (like if Storm gets involved but only to counteract someone else's interference, something like that would be cool.)

He should win and the TNA Originals should come out to celebrate with him, hoisting him on their shoulders with the confetti and whatnot. They need to make this a big deal, not just another stupid angle.

The best thing TNA have ever done is give Roode a shot.... though they are doomed to ruin this act by making him loose...or letting him win only to lose the belt to another Ex WWE star and then fizzle away again.

im happy as hell that roode is the no1 contender!! This guy has been busting his ass for years now!! I think personally he truly is the guts behind TNA!! He is most deserving of this spot and come oct he will be the new TNA world heavyweight champion!! WWE needs a guy like this on their roser a guy who works his ass off appreciates everything and takes nothing for granted!! While it sucks to have beer money break up Roode is definitely the guy to be the man on top!! I cant speak highly enough of bobby roode

I Was screaming almost when he won because roode is my favorite wrestler of all time. It's his time and i can only hope tna pushes james storm and maybe, just maybe we can see the two go at it for the title.

Roode is the HHH of TNA imho and i really hope that they give the title to him.

I'm glad Bobby Roode came out successful tonight. Gunner is still a bit green, Bully Ray has improved a ton but isn't the best contender against Kurt Angle, and I always thought Roode was the star of Beer Money instead of James Storm.

Roode and Angle should have a great match and I hope we see Roode not only become TNA World Heavyweight Champion, but also have a memorable title reign. I'm worried that if Roode does win he will be a transitional champion since Crimson will likely feud with angle after his injury.

Roode has been with the company for a long time. I'm glad he has a chance to shine at the biggest PPV of the year for TNA. Roode has the look and has always shined inside the ring and on the mic. He has all the tools necessary to be a great main eventer.

Hopefully Angle keeps the title between now and Bound for Glory. Angle will put Roode over like noone else can.

i was really happy to see roode win the whole series tonight i think it will be a great match between him and kurt angle next month hopefully they do the smart thing and have angle drop the belt here to roode it should be good to see over the next few weeks how they build up roode's fued with angle im wondering what James Storm will do for BFG now it does make me think maybe hes gonna turn heel after roode wins or screw roode if hes just his manager then again maybe storm is gonna face someone 1 on 1 at BFG  all i know is i cant wait for roode to hopefully win the world title!

Really like Roode, have done for approaching 5 years now. But you've got to question the timing of this title shot. TNA likes to think that Bound For Glory is their WrestleMania, so you'd expect they'd want it to be their biggest PPV of the year. Is Roode vs. Angle the biggest match TNA could do for that show? I don't think so.

After winning the Bound For Glory Series Roode should now win the title. For me, after running the series for so long, it'd completely undermine it by then having Roode lose. However Roode also shouldn't be winning the title off Angle anytime soon. He needs a feud with Anderson or Sting before he actually feuds for the title, otherwise who's going to buy into him?

I'd expect this to either be made into a triple threat or they'll just ignore the stipulation, that the winner gets a title shot at BFG, and they'll book the match at another show.

Kurt could put over Bobby and I would be happy with it. Shit if Kurt can't put you over no one can, Bobby has it on the mic and in the ring. He's not the most gifted wrestler on the face of the planet. But he is a damn good worker, and has worked his ass off for years.

I loved Beer Money face or heel, because they both work so well together. But when Roode went singles he showed us that he could work at a solid mid card level or higher. That's been how long ago? He's aged, and matured. IT's a good thing that he did that, because I want to see him win it.

Hugely dissapointed with this decision. I'm not usually one for criticising TNA, but how the hell is anyone supposed to believe that Bobby Roode actually stands a chance of beating Kurt Angle? Bully Ray would've been by far and away the best choice for winning the BFG Series IMO. I would buy into Gunner as more of a threat to Kurt Angle than Roode. What has Roode ever done apart from be a part of a great tag team?

Roode is just average IMO. He has a decent look, good ring skills, average mic skills and no gimmick. That doesn't scream potential World Champion to me. I just wish Matt Morgan hadn't been injured during the Series because there's a guy that you could actually see beating Kurt Angle and becoming World Champion.

I appreciate a lot of internet fans like Roode but TNA have never portrayed him as someone who could be a main eventer and there's a lot of work to be done between now and BFG for him to be taken as a serious threat to someone like Kurt Angle. Maybe Angle loses the Title between now and BFG? I don't know, but I really can't see Roode standing much of a chance at BFG. During the final I was sort of hoping James Storm would come down and cost Roode the match, therefore allowing a genuine main eventer like Bully Ray to go on to BFG.

Perhaps the people who say Hogan and Bischoff are ruining TNA may have been right after all. I've been spending a lot of time defending Hogan and Bischoff but I just can't defend this decision. Hopefully Angle retains the World Title at BFG because having Bobby Roode as the World Champion would be a huge step back (considering the massive strides the company beens making over the last couple of years) and make them look like the indy company they were back in 2008. Sorry if I've offended anyone but Roode is just not a viable World Champion at this point. Perhaps if he was bulit up for the next year or so then yea, but BFG is next month!

Roode has been growing for years. There was a time when he was TNA's favourite pet project and tbh, Bobby Roode DESERVES this. He's put in a lot of hard work for TNA and IS a TNA original, which makes this REFRESHING. In my mind, this is a better choice than Ray, or any other ex WWE/F guy. Bobby Roode has a nice set of moves and can definitely put on one hell of a match with Angle.

For me, considering the long time span of the BFG Series, Robert Roode may not have been my first selection, however considering who else was in the final four, I think he was an excellent choice. I am very happy seeing Roode win the series to become the number one contender, and I really hope that he beats Angle at BFG to become the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion.

As some of you may know, I have been a strong supporter for Crimson to win the BFG Series, although a lot of guys on here have disagreed with me and that's fine, as I rarely watch TNA anymore and so I stand to be corrected on my opinion here. With Crimson out with an "injury" (not sure if this is legit or kayfabe), obviously it had to be someone else. If Crimson is supposedly "not ready" or "too green", there's no way Gunner could have possibly won this thing, as he's greener and less ready. And even though Bully Ray has reinvented himself and has been a really good heel for the last several months, I just couldn't imagine him main eventing a PPV, the supposedly biggest one of the year, in 2011, especially in a heel versus heel match up between affiliated guys. So obviously, it had to come down to one of the Beer Money guys.

In my opinion, Roode is better than Storm. Better in the ring, on the mic, and just a better overall character. I would easily choose Roode over Storm. Therefore, seeing a face Roode defeat a heel Angle at BFG makes a lot of sense for me on so many levels. It pushes a younger guy to the forefront, which I have been screaming for for months. It elevates a TNA Original, which I have been asking for for years. It punishes Angle for his recent indiscretions, albeit not too harshly, and who better to put Roode over than Angle? It rewards a deserving guy, a novel concept in TNA.

The question which remains is, will a face champion Roode be a draw? I don't know the answer, I would guess possibly not, but TNA is not a huge draw at the moment with anyone else anyway, and the only way to find out is to give him a shot. If it doesn't work out, they can easily make him a transitional champion and put the title back on one of the same old same old guys. If it does work out, they have developed a new champion from within their own talent pool, which can only speak well for guys like Styles, Crimson, Storm, and a handful of others.

Of course, this won't be the main event of BFG, even though it is the title match. The main event will still be old guys, namely Hogan and Sting, but baby steps I guess, there's no way that one can expect TNA to totally go away from their formula of featuring old guys over new talent, however it is clearly a step in the right direction.

Worst case scenario, the Roode experiment doesn't work out, and even then, it's still all good. If nothing else, it's a little grooming for him before his eventual defection to the WWE ;)

A few thoughts crossed my mind.

First Roode getting a push after Triple-H is deemed interested in acquiring, Beer Money, for the new push on the wwe tag-team division.

Secondly I'd be shocked if there isn't some swerve to push the main event into a triple threat match or Roode getting screwed somehow and in the process making the whole Bound For Glory series look like it was worthless and a waste of time.

Finally I am happy if it is Roode and Roode alone that gets some Main Event pushes even if he doesn't beat Angle it'll be nice seeing someone new other then Sting and Mr. Anderson in the title match. My opinion despite being a Hogan/ Bischoff guy is that TNA originals haven't been pushed enough (AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Roode) too many ex-wwe guys get the main event title push right after they "Cross The Line"... But guy's like Roode who was entertaining with Team Canada, When he bossed around Traci Brooks, Beer Money, finally get's his chance and I'm happy for that. I hope he does win the title and some new feuds are presented to us in TNA.

BUT TNA DOESN'T BUILD YOUNGER STARS AND ALL THEY RELY ON IS WWE REJ-aw shut the fuck up.
Almost two years into the revamp and they finally put the belt near someone who didn't make their bones somewhere else. (Don't talk to me about AJ- he was made champion under the old book, and the new book took it off him quick.) I don't blame TNA/IW for putting guys who were already well exposed into the championship picture, but don't even try and pretend that TNA/IW has all this time been a wellspring of opportunity for younger wrestlers, being unfairly maligned by people who only looked at the people who were actually main eventing. That dog don't hunt.

As far as No Surrender went, TNA/IW proved that they are capable of putting on a good pay-per-view. One thing that drives me batty about TNA/IW is that they have many superb moments where they never capitalize with more viewership or press. It was a very good pay-per-view, but I ask myself now, is Bobby Roode vs. Kurt Angle really the best main event they could put on the BFG card? It'll be a great match, but it doesn't scream "must buy" to me. (Then again, not much in TNA/IW does scream "must buy" to me, so there you go.) I wouldn't be surprised to see a third or even fourth person added to the match- Sting and Mr. Anderson don't have a date yet. Bobby Roode is very over with people who have been watching TNA/IW for a while, so who knows? You're taking a risk by main event debuting him at BFG, but what the hell, sometimes risks pay off big.

Roode has been my guy in TNA for a long time now so I am very happy to see him get his shot main eventing TNA's biggest PPV of the year. He has always been someone who stood out to me and I feel would be a great pick for TNA champion.

It was definitely the right pick (him or Storm would have been fine by me) and Bobby Roode is a star in the making if they do it correctly. I'm hoping he wins, gets a lengthy run as champion (hopefully a feud with James Storm *fingers crossed*) and becomes established as one of the top talents in TNA. I think him and Storm should both be in the main event, both guys have proven worthy as singles stars and its time to see some fresh faces as main event mainstays.

I haven't watched much TNA in a while but I will be watching BFG and a Roode title win could be just the thing that gets me watching TNA regularly again.

The best stories that have come out of TNA have been the ones that has had one of their originals recieving a push for the World Heavyweight Title. Samoa Joe and AJ Styles have both benefitted from this sort of a storyline and now I guess it is Roode's turn.

Roode hasn't had the sort of build up that Joe had in 2005 or Styles had in 2009. It could also be possibly said that Bully Ray has deserved the title shot more than Roode. But the move makes sense on closer inspection. Ray can be champion at any given time, but Roode needs a win at BFG more than Ray. TNA have always been looking for that guy who can carry their company for the next 5 to 10 years and Roode is always a better option than Ray in that department.

Roode can do it, and by that I mean become the face of the company if booked well. He has the look, the wrestling skills and the intensity to sell a feud. I believe that he has charisma though I guess some people will disagree with me there because some people believe that only funny guys are the charismatic ones.

I would book Roode as the underdog in this feud, as the guy who has no fucking chance of succeeding against the best wrestler on the planet in Kurt Angle. Then I would have Roode win at BFG. Simple but effective.

Roode needs to win. If he gets screwed or in a 3way and loses out BFG series was a colossal waste of time. The only legit way I can see him losing and not ruin the BFG series in the future if they go a good 30-45 minutes. Roode looks pretty good last night and hopefully theres no Hogan at all in this angle/roode match. Kurt needs to lose the title and go in hiding till this whole DUI issue goes away or goto a damm AA meeting.

Knowing Russo booking Roode joins Immortal.
