BCS Selection Show LD

Welcome to My (And Not Sly's) House
So Georgia made it further in the season by making it to the conference title game, they lost a nail biter, but Florida is going to the BCS instead of Georgia, even though Georgia beat Florida earlier this year.

Isn't college football great?

I can't stand Kirk Herbstreit man. He doesn't think NIU deserves a bowl bid? Really?

Wait so Northern Illinois is #16 in the BCS standings and are going to a BCS game, but Oklahoma, #11 in the standings, isn't? How did this system get this complicated?

He doesn't think they deserve a spot over OU.

Louisville (#21) vs. Florida (#3) in the Sugar Bowl.

Stanford (#6) vs. Wisconsin (Not ranked) in the Rose Bowl.

Oregon (#4) vs. Kansas State (#5) in the Fiesta Bowl

So unless I'm missing something, the standings mean absolutely nothing outside of the national title game and the Fiesta Bowl.

I agree that the BCS is bullshit. But isn't Stanford ranked #8? Granted Oregon probably should've won the PAC 12, the Rose Bowl game always featured the PAC 12 and Big 10 champs.

Speaking of which KB, how many BCS games are there? I figured with all the bowl games they have they were all BCS.

.
Not at all.

The standings are only to decide Number 1 and Number 2. Numbers 3 through 25 only determine an automatic qualifier.
-Florida is a non conference winner from an AQ conference that finished #3 so they get in Automatically
-Louisville, Stanford, Wisconsin, K-State, and FSU all get in as Conference Champions form AQ conferences.
-NIU gets in because they are a non AQ conference Champ ranked 16 or high AND higher then a conference champ from an AQ conference (Big East and Big 10 Champs are both ranked lower).
-Oregon was the lone team selected (rightfully so I might add, they deserve it over the 3rd SEC team)

Hell, teams ranked lower then 14 are not even allowed to be selected for the bowl, so it's not even like 17-25 mean anything anyway.

Nothing will ever be worse than when Mizzou got shafted by the BCS.

Will this new playoff system work out better?

It means they'll actually play it out on the field instead of on a computer.

In other words: the regular season means......more or less nothing unless you're in a major conference or get really lucky.

EXACTLY. That's the secret of College Football. The Regular Season means nothing, even though they try and tell you every game matters. All that matters is winning your conference. Look at Wisconsin. 5 losses and they are in the fucking Rose Bowl.

And Kirk Herbstreit needs to realize that a 1 loss Northern Iowa deserves a shot over Wisconsin.

Those people are what we like to call dumbasses.

And I don't know about you all, but I'd LOVE to see Northern Iowa destroy Florida State in the Orange Bowl.

Isn't it interesting that the small schools that get in almost always have to basically play against the other team in the other team's backyard?

What ends up happening is that the bowls that don't have tie-ins pick the teams from the pool of eligible teams. Orange Bowl had the last pick, and got stuck with Northern Iowa. It just so happens that the last pick was for a bowl against a "home team."

Isn't it also interesting that all these bowl games get played in the south (Florida/New Orleans) or warm weather (Arizona/LA)? How about they have a BCS Bowl in Metlife Stadium (or Yankee Stadium), or Gillette Stadium in New England, or Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Philly, or even Detroit in the fucking Dome, where at least these SEC teams have to actually get out of their warm weather environment they are used to.

Pretending bowl games
Aren't just for the audience
Is very fruitless

Fans want to travel to games in warm weather. Yes, yes, spare me the argument of Giants Stadium getting the Superbowl next year, woul you rather travel to Miami, or to somewhere like Pittsburgh.

Also, these games are played in areas to make it easier for the fans to travel to. And most, if not all, teams from the northeast suck varying amounts of ass
