Backlash: CM Punk vs. Kane

You're trying to even find a spin on his feud with Shane. I'm sorry, but that was easily the biggest focus of Raw. Easily. By saying he was Shane's bitch you're disregarding it.
Or at least I'm not doing a good enough job of it as you keep replying. :(

Goldberg and Triple H were the focus of Raw in 2003 at that point, followed by Bischoff and Austin. Shawn Michaels' involvement with Orton, or any of those guys, was also on equal footing or over Kane-Shane (in the case of Shawn being involved with Bisch, Goldberg, etc.) Kane was in a big story, but the Shane stuff kept him an afterthought.

I can't believe the notion of Kane being a serious threat for most storylines not related to anything involving Undertaker is taken seriously. People have only given Kane the time of day because of the wild pyro and relation to Taker's supernatural gimmick. And I feel like one of the only ones able to look past the sloppy flying-clotheslines and see it.

I am personally pretty excited for this. I wish the case were on the line, but regardless, I like it. Its a fine match up of skill sets, with Kane's power offense, and Punks solid selling ability. Itll also be cool to see Punk have to be resourcefull with high flying and martial arts to overcome the monster. Or at least thats how I would book it. WWE will probably do something different. and dumb.

think about it kane goes over punk and challenges him for the briefcase kane loses rematch and steals the briefcase set up a ladder match at judgment day that could be a really good fued for smackdown

I can't say i'm excited to see this after their recent match on RAW, But as long as it's booked properly (Kane dominating, And Punk taking over the last few minutes), It should be a fine filler, But with no real build up, Not many people will care, Which will affect the match heat. And we all know the crowd can make, Or break a match.

Wow this had way more responses than i thought it would.... but that aside.

This seems out of place and looks like its just filler.... Money in the bank sould be on the line. Not that I think Kane is going to win it, he'd be more likely to steal it and go cash it in, that'd be dumb though.

I predict that Punk wins in either a filler match no one cares about, or that he wins after some kind of swerve that no one is expecting.

I think, there wasnt enough of a build-up for this, and the backing story to it. I think a feud should come out of this mabyte, with Kane eventually getting the Mitb, but then again, Punk should be built up right and although, he has had a major push in the last year or so, I personally, want Kane to win...but then if he loses, they could get it to work to their advantage, and make Kane go crazy, and Beat the living shit out of Punk, mabye Chokeslam and a Tombstone, which, should lead into a feud.

Punk really doesn't need a feud with Kane right now, though. There is enough talent higher on the card or more talented that Punk will gain more from working with. This Backlash match should be the end of it.

I like the idea of Punk turning heel and cashing in the MITB after a grueling Last Man Standing match on Cena. Only shortcoming is they're not going to let Punk get over on Cena with no way for Cena to react (different shows, they want them separated after Backlash).

I think it'd be great to have the same opportunistic CM Punk show up tonight that took the belt from Edge, but now he will get booed for it. That could totally be the reason for his heel turn. Last year he beats Edge and gets cheered, this time he beats Cena and gets booed. Too bad he doesn't have the mic skills to pull it off. Unless they have him reading off of cue cards in the backstage area again...

Ultimately, it'd be great to see it, just because I don't watch Smackdown anyway but a Jericho title run would get me watching... CM winning the belt gets me one step closer to having something to watch on Friday.

Ladies and Gentlemen, whether you want to believe it or not, CM Punk is the future of Smackdonw, and CM Punk is going to be a world champion again, sometime within this year, whether you like it or not. The guy is getting pushed to the moon by the WWE, adn this is just another step towards it.

Obviously, it's a throw away match. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kane win with some trickery, as to make it look like punk is strong, not weak. If Punk manages to cash in MITB tonight, then I see this setting up a mini feud with Kane for the title, to allow the other main eventers on Smackdown to either lock themselves into a nother feud, or take some time off. I won't be surprised to see Kane win, but I wouldn't doubt Punk winning either.

Pretty damn decent match, as good as I expected. The styles meshed real well, and I loved the striking sequence from Punk. Pretty damn awesome finish as well. Ive got no clue whatsoever Kane going over Punk does for anyone. A true headscratcher. either way, pretty good match.

Grade: C+
