Awesome Kong... Er, Kharma?

Eh, I don't know. If she took up the tagline "Kharma's a bitch," I might get into it, but I personally would have just gone with KONG. Just KONG in capital letters, and every time that name appear on the titantron, every diva would mess herself.

Awesome Kong portrayed a straight up beat your azz person in TNA.... her name fitted her persona when she beat the knockout's azz.... her new name in WWE kinda tells me that she will have to be screwed out of a title first before she can really beat the holy hell outa someone... like have her dominate but have a face screw her out the title pic and then show her to have an even more demented mindset..... like Kane lol ....... P.S. how weird would it be to see a mixed tag team of Kane and Kharma???? lol

Kharma doesn't sound bad to me. Its pretty solid compared to the things WWE COULD have called her lol. I was hoping for Amazing Kong or just Kong but I guess they wanted a total name change. Kharma sounds cool though and her vignette vids are sweet.

You guys know what? While Segregation was bad, over here we had Apartheid... I'm glad Kong is now Kharma, it can't be seen as derogatory in this instance.

I like it, it fits with the storyline they are building right now. The Divas are all being bitches to each other and turning their backs on one another, so Kharma is gonna get them bitches!

This sounds about right! The Divas are all starting to turn on each other, on Raw and Smackdown, but then here comes a psychotic and strong new Diva, so maybe someone will regret turning on an ally, hence the name, Kharma ;)

I like the name. It has a lot of possibilities for promos and commentary, although all cliché I'm sure.

I'm just hoping she'll come in and destroy the divas. I think back to Chyna throwing Marlena around like a rag doll in the late 90's, and hope that's what we are in for.

You know, I dig it. It's a one-word name and powerful sounding, it keeps the K (which I feel is a very strong letter), and it can't be seen as derogatory by interest groups hunting for blood from the WWE. Plus, "Kharma's a bitch" or some variation is really a great catchphrase. When you think of all the other names she could have gotten, it's really not bad, not bad at all. It seems WWE is moving back towards interesting names, first with Sin Cara (Faceless) and now with Kharma. Good stuff.

It really doesn't matter. I mean obviously I would have preferred WWE Creative at least use spellcheck when pitching ideas to each other in what I can only assume is a drug-induced stupor. Names are names, and no one is really kicking a fuss about Daniel Bryan these days are they? Once she attains some modicum of exposure, people will just start calling her Kharma. It just happens after a while. I assure you that in 6 months, twice as many people will know her only as Kharma than as the Artist formerly known as Kong.

Then again, no one really cares about Women's wrestling, so...you know. That sucks.

so very close

Everybody come aboard the Hoooooooooooooooooooo Trainnnnnnnnnnn :)
God i miss that

nothing wrong with Kharma as a name, makes perfect sense. She'll come in and reek Kharma on the Diva's for not being real women wrestlers.
Just cause it's spelt dfferent, who gives a shit.

What would you rather her be named? since she can't use Awesome Kong or Kong i assume.

Now if someone wants to bitch about name spelling, how in the blue hell did anyone thing the Corre was a good idea for a stable name
that spelling is just ******ed, and they still never said why it was spelt that way

I like the name, im guessing she will come in and make the current divas rue the day they came into the WWE Diva division and turned it into "the shit" it is today!

What goes around, comes around :) hopefully shes good.

While I knew WWE wouldn't go with "amazing" or "awesome", I too was hoping for some variant of "Kong" in her name. However, the point about potential association issues is well taken and is likely the primary factor why it was dropped. If it were 1980-something though... :)

Anyway, I like the name Kharma as it seems to fit in with the direction the divas division is currently being taken in. The gals have all been kinda catty lately, fighting over stupid things and acting like one-layer removed valley girls for the most part. Now Kong... err... Kharma is going to burst onto the scene and make all the competitors rethink their priorities to say the least.

It seems like Vince and company are rebuilding the divas division around Kharma and that's definitely a good thing. Her vignettes almost acknowledge that the division has become a Barbie doll collection of sorts... a collection that will begin getting smashed to pieces once Kharma debuts, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Truthfully, I think Kharma's debut is one of the more exciting things going on in WWE right now. Hopefully she is presented to the audience as advertised and Creative doesn't have any plans of making her "big, dumb, and goofy" anytime soon.

Bertha Faye... shudder.

So it's Kharma. Ok. Whatever. Don't bother me. Excpt didn't they already have a wrestler by that name? The same guy (what was his name?) who also portrayed Papa Shango and the Goodfather?

Sorryyyyyy. I feel silly now. He wasn't Kharma, he was Kama. DUH!! Totally different. ;) I guess since I was still learning English at the time he wrestled I didn't pay too much attention to the spelling. Besides, how long did his run as KAMA last? 3 months?

Excellent question. I can't state this with absolute certainty, but I don't think they have ever done that. I certainly can't recall a single instance.

That, if nothing else, should show what high expectations the WWE has in regards to this woman. Imagine a divas division where you don't groan painfully every time they come out.

And the name is not too bad. Obviously a monkey name wasn't going to fly in today's politically correct world, and they could have done much worse than Kharma. At least they didn't call her Bertha.

Too bad "My name is Earl" got cancelled or they could have brought in Jason Lee to finally meet this Kharma person he's been trying to reach so badly. Did I say "Too bad?" I meant "Thank God."

Considering the obvious use of random name generator software with some of WWEs recent call ups etc to the roster Kharma's not actually that bad. It kind of suits Kong as a person. I always thought Awesome Kong was a bit lame actually. I don't know why I think it's just the use of Awesome or Amazing in a name just sounds like a 5 year old came up with it.

I prefer Kharma to awesome Kong for a variety of reasons. For one thing, it's not nearly as humiliating and degrading as Awesome Kong, a clear play on King Kong who is, as I'm sure you know, a giant monkey.

It's also much more mysterious. Mystery is always great when you're playing the monster angle (see: Kane, Vader, The Boogeyman, etc.), and I think it's safe to assume that Kharma will be playing up a monster heel angle. I wouldn't be surprised to see her billed from The Island of Kong as homage to her previous persona.

His name was "Kama", not "Karma". Kama Mustafa.

I'm starting to like the name change the more I think about it. It makes promos easy as cake for her, and shit she's already got a catch-phrase! "Karma's a bitch". I can't wait to see her wreck havoc on the diva's division.

Many seem already to be expecting a "Kharma's a bitch" catchphrase, but I'm afraid that's not gonna happen in a PG environment.
Or is "bitch" on the OK-list? It's so weird. I heard the word "fuck" is now ok again on TV, but they bleep it out more often than not anyway. Probably depends on what time it airs. The whole youth protection thing is an illusion anyway - if anyone one knows all the colorful evil curse words it's the kids. If they haven't heard it from their parents or on TV, they will hear it in school. But that's another discussion for another topic...

Her finisher would obviously be something that comes from out of nowhere. The match is in it's dying stages, both women are exhausted from the 5 minutes of wrestling they've been given on the card. The artist formerly known as Kong looks down and out. Natalya is going to retain, it's just a formality now. She whips her against the ropes and BAM, out of nowhere...

Instant Karma.

John Lennon eat your heart out. Honestly, historically you'll find more promos, angles and characters in wrestling built on bad puns than on actual substance. It's a wonderful business.

Right there with you. I don't think we will see any "Kharma's a Bitch" t-shirts or anything. If I had to guess, I would bet her her catchphrase will be along the lines of "You know what they say about Kharma..." and she would say that to close her promo's.

It writes itself: Kharma's a Bitch.

Actually it is a clever name and one that gets attention.

True, and even with the PG setting in WWE it could work. Anyways its a nice name (if true), they could have chosen worse.

I too was hoping that she would go by simply Kong. Kharma just doesn't seem as intimidating or as if it'd strike fear in the Divas. I'm sure it'll grow on me over time as others have such as Dolph Ziggler, a bonified porn star name. It just seems to me like her name is too generic when Kong should really be a standout. She's the most dominant female wrestler there's been in a long time, with her only competition really being Beth Phoenix and Chyna. I know TNA owns some variation of Awesome Kong, but I think WWE could have just called her Kong and it'd been fine.

And I've heard about the trademark and not being able to trademark Kong, blah blah. But the fact is not every single name in WWE is trademarked. Some people use their real name and some people have co-ownership of character names such as the Rock and likely the Miz.

Overall, it's not a huge deal and I'm sure she'll do great but I think her name being Kong would have made more sense.

I actually like the name quite a bit. Kharma, it just rolls off the tongue and sounds pretty cool for a wrestler's name. I never liked the Awesome Kong or Amazing Kong name that much, even if it did fit her. Kharma also fits her in my opinion as she is bringing karma to the Divas for being bitches, for lack of a better word, to each other for the past few weeks.

I don't know, I just really love the name.

Maybe it's supposed to be a vague reference to kharma being a bitch or something. Anyway, I don't have a problem with the name. Although I was so used to calling her Awesome Kong and it would've been nice to see WWE go with that name, if TNA owns copyright over that name or whatever then this makes sense. It's really not a big deal in the long run. I'm more interested in her getting on television and demolishing the Divas division.

It sounds better than awesome kong IMO. Not by much but names mean nothing in this business, all that matters is what you do in the ring IMO.
