Six days had passed since Lynx's victory against Vox at Apocalypse 2017. His awareness rally had gone even better than expected. The donation money had come in by significant amounts through The Grand Dream's social media networks. It was enough for Lynx to travel in comfort between shows. Lynx had not been able to sleep tonight. The days off after Apocalypse 2017 were going by much slower than they seemed like they would. He wanted to get back into the ring. Lynx is laying in his bed in a fancy hotel room. He checks his iPhone and sees that it is almost 4AM. He also sees several emails that came in through The Grand Dream's "Contact Us" portal. One thousand seven hundred and twelve, to be exact.

Lynx: It never ends with that portal. I'll get Doreen to deal with those messages tomorrow.

He turns off his iPhone and tries to go back to sleep, hoping to hear from WZCW officials about his next match the following day.

The day was nearing its end as Lynx had returned to his hotel room to eat his dinner while his friend Doreen was working at the side table by the window, on her laptop, with answering all those emails sent to the "Contact Us" portal. Lynx immensly enjoyed his dinner which consisted of apricots, pumpkin butter, pancetta, avocados, sushi, and black-eyed peas with brown sugar. The room had been quiet other than Doreen's typing and an occassional squeaky sound from Lynx's fork on his plate. Yeah, I hate that sound too. Pretty much everyone does. Lynx finished his meal and within no less than two seconds after he took his last bite, Doreen spoke up.

Doreen: Lynx, how long do you want Doreen to do these emails? She has been at it since 7:00 AM this morning.

Lynx: Until there aren't any left. In fact.... That's your official job from now on. If anything comes in regarding WZCW let me take a look at it but I trust you with responding to anything pertaining to The Grand Dream.

Doreen: This is interminable, Lynx. Doreen still has 858 emails left from that batch of 1712 that she started with.

He walks over to her and looks at the computer screen. He watches her quickly type out a response to a fan that had asked when the next Grand Dream rally would be. She typed her response with the hunt and peck method, using only her thumbs and index fingers. Lynx himself also types this way. It's partially due to it being easier for him but also to prove to an annoying Computer Literacy teacher he had back in middle school that Home Row Keyboarding was useless.

Doreen: Doreen is not sure if she can handle this.

Lynx: Sure you can. You type at 94 words per minute without ever making any typos. That's a lot faster than the typing speed of both Masamune and myself combined. That's why you're handling Social Media while I focus on my wrestling career.

Lynx walked back over to the bed and sat down on it while Doreen continued typing.

Lynx: Anything from WZCW?

Doreen: She has gotten mainly spam and donation confirmations so far.

Lynx: Alright. Let me know if anything from WZCW or my wrestling fans comes through. I'm going to take a walk.

With that he left his hotel room and began walking around in the halls. There weren't many other guests in the halls other than the occassional person getting in or out of the elevators. Lynx liked having time to himself to think things through and mentally unpack, such as he is doing right now. Lynx thought to himself as he walked the halls, one floor after another.

Lynx: ((((The Gold Rush tournament is going to begin soon. Even though I have yet to receive the news of who I will be facing, surely they will enter me in the tournament.))))

He stopped walking for a moment and looked at his right hand, at the scar on the skin in between his index and middle fingers.

Lynx: ((((This scar.... From the last time I participated in a tournament.... It's hard to believe so much time has passed since that day....))))

He starts walking again, contemplating more on his past experiences.

Several days had passed. Lynx had traveled with Masamune and Doreen to arrive early in Chicago for his next match. By now Lynx knew who his next opponent would be. He found out on May 12th at 14:51 PM, that he would be facing Wren on Ascension 117. He had never competed on the Ascension brand before and sure enough, he had been entered into the Gold Rush tournament. His match with Wren was a first round match in the tournament. The three Grand Dream members had checked into their rooms for the week. Lynx had Doreen set up her computer in his room again to finish answering the wave of emails, she was almost finished. It was just the two of them. Masamune's location was unknown at the time, likely in his own hotel room resting.

Lynx: Doreen, how are we doing on those emails? Anything important?

Doreen: Doreen did see a couple worth mentioning. Let her pull them up for you, Lynx.

He cracks his knuckles and awaits her response.

Lynx: Alright. Read me one.

Doreen: This is from a guy who did not fill out his name on the contact portal's form. He said "Lynx, I run a fantasy wrestling board at an online forum and we would like input from an actual wrestler. We got into a discussion the other day about whether or not to use font colors for spoken dialogue in Roleplay posts. What are your thoughts?".

Lynx: No name? Did he put where he's from?

Doreen: Parts Unknown.

Lynx genuinely laughs out loud at this.

Lynx: Should have known. Gotta love those internet fans. Ok.... Ummm.... Tell him I think that font colors for spoken dialogue do make things easier and more fun to read on internet Roleplay posts. I've always liked dialogue being formatted in red font, personally.

She quickly types out a response.

Doreen: Done.

Lynx: Anything WZCW related emails or was it all spam, donation receipts, and weird stuff again?

Doreen: Yes, actually. Come here. Doreen thinks you should read this for yourself. It was sent by a guy named Robert from Fresno, California.

The leader of The Grand Dream walks over to view the email.

Some guy named Robert said:
Lynx, question for you. You have that match with Wren on Ascension. She has a manager but you do not. Have you ever thought of getting one? Maybe it would help you in your match. How about that big guy with the long hair and blue helmet from your Apocalypse Rally, why not bring him in as your manager? Or do you think you can win without any outside help?

~ Robert

Lynx takes a moment to think this through and then types out a response to Robert.

Lynx said:
Hi, Robert. Thanks for your concern. I always appreciate input from my fans. The guy with the long hair and blue helmet you mentioned is Masamune, a co-founder of The Grand Dream. He himself did approach me once offering to become my onscreen manager in WZCW. I told him no. As much as it hurt to decline a cool idea from one of my closest friends, I have to win my matches in WZCW without outside help. I am there to protect various fixed points in time. I cannot risk Masamune or anyone else interfering with that or else we risk a rip in the fabric of space and time. And nobody wants that. Trust me.

As for Wren.... Her manager does not intimidate me. She seems to be there to do Wren's talking for her given that Wren doesn't talk much, or at all for that matter. Unlike my Ascension opponent, I do have a lot to say and I don't need a manager to do any of my talking. I won't stop talking until I have made the world aware of my concerns regarding the prevention of the Apocalypse, which comes closer with every minute of every day. I'm confident I will defeat Wren and proceed to the next round of the Gold Rush tournament.

~ Lynx

He reads over his response and is instantly reminded of the day Masamune offered to be an onscreen manager. Lynx knows he made the right decision. He doesn't need any help, and Masamune understood it. In fact, Masamune's entire response was a simple "Way cool!" when Lynx politely declined the offer. They have since moved on and it was never brought up again. He clicks "send" and then puts the computer in sleep mode. A notification sound is heard on his iPhone and Lynx goes over to see what it was. He pulls up a new text message from WZCW officials.

Unknown Sender said:
Lynx, an executive from Human Resources has scheduled a meeting with you after your match on Ascension. Please do not be late.

~ WZCW Management

He wondered what this meeting could be about. Lynx had bigger things on his mind though, like the Gold Rush tournament and the opportunities it presented. He looked at the scar on his right hand again, thinking to himself for a moment.

Lynx: ((((Not this time. This won't end like the last tournament I was in, when I got this scar.... Not this time....))))

“IT’S A GOAL!”

The TV had been on for quite some time, but I wasn’t paying attention. I didn’t even know what channel was on. The brackets for the Gold Rush had just been announced, and I was to face Lynx. New to WZCW, just like me, but very different. He was not your typical wrestler. In fact, I didn’t understand any of what he was. I heard he was a time traveler. Really? He talked about time space continuum and his requirement in this dimension and how he was here to prevent an apocalypse. I didn’t understand the man at all. Edgar Allen Poe in disguise? Not that I know if Poe was a time traveler. Is he just straight up delusional? His in ring abilities say otherwise. What was he?

My train of thoughts was broken by a knock on the door. I peeped through to see it was Allison. “Not her again!” It had been weeks since she had returned and I still couldn’t figure out why she came back. I let her in.

“You have to listen to me if you want to win anything here in WZCW.” She hadn’t been in for even a second and had already started lecturing me. I didn’t react to what she said, which seemed to have just peeved her a little bit. She caught hold of me before I could turn away.

“You don’t get to turn your back on me. You don’t simply walk away.” I shrugged her hand off me. That I was annoyed would be an understatement at this time. She had been gone for 12 years. 12 YEARS! And she had the audacity to tell me that I don’t get to turn away? For all the good things she had done, she had been gone a long time for me to care for her anymore. And yet, here she was, still trying to impose herself on me. While at one time I did want to know where she was all these years, I had become indifferent to her absence. I, however, wanted to know why she had come back. Why did she even care what I do with my life? Why did she care of won or lost? What did it matter to her at all?

She could see the pent-up frustration on my face. I was never very good at hiding my thoughts, at least not with her. I could sense she could hear me through my silence which seemed to have cooled her off a bit. She sat me down.

“I understand you have questions. A lots of them. And I wish I had answers to them at present. May be someday. This is not the time though. All I can tell you that I am back for good. I’m here for you.”

I could feel the surge of deeply held anger and sadness inside of me. Her inability to answer these questions didn’t help the thought that she abandoned me when I needed her the most. The one person who had been central to my survival left me to die on the street. I got up and walked away, trying to hold back the emotions that I didn’t want to show. I fought my tears back as deafening silence ensued, eventually broken by her.

“I know you think I abandoned you all those years ago. I’m not here to explain why I did what I did because frankly I cannot explain it. All I can say that I couldn’t have come back even though I wanted to, especially after I saw what you had found in life.”

I looked back at her with a puzzled look. But she wasn’t looking at me, she just looked down at the floor.

“You think that I never tried to contact you or come back to you. But the reality is, I did try to contact you. I did come to the hospital where you were admitted and I did come to the dojo where you trained. But I couldn’t see you. I couldn’t take the life away from you that you had built.”

But she could’ve lived with me. If only she had talked to me. My eyes were fixated at her, full of questions like these.

“I was a wanted person. You were an innocent little girl who would’ve been deemed an accomplice to all the crimes that I had committed. Why would I ever want that?”

I held my head down in disbelief.

“I still remember seeing you laughing when I had come to the dojo to try and speak to you. I just couldn’t muster the courage to take you away from that. I realized that I couldn’t really take care of you. You finally had found someone who you could call a mother. You finally found people who you could call your real friends. You finally found your passion in wrestling. All I could give you was a life of a criminal that you didn’t deserve. I was a bad person; but I couldn’t continue fooling you into believing that I was your guardian. That accident was a blessing in disguise for you ‘cause you found a life way better than you would’ve ever found with me. I just couldn’t take that away from you.”

Before she could finish speaking, I hugged her tight.

“I’m not back because I want something from you. I came back because I finally found the courage to be part of your life.”

I didn’t want to let go. I didn’t know what I was feeling. Was I happy that she was finally back? Or was I sad that she couldn’t have what I had? In any condition, I felt a little relief.

“I can only hope that you forgive me. But for now, it’s more important that you concentrate on Gold Rush. This could be your shortcut to the top of the WZCW. Let’s just hope Lynx doesn’t open a portal in the ring. ”

It was a sentiment I agreed with. And for some reason, I felt a little surge of that energy, that passion to perform better. After all, I had just gotten my friend back!
