Alex Riley - Where Are You?

Dark Match Winner
Where has this guy gone, he was so hot after his feud with The Miz and then was looking like to be the one to take the strap off Ziggler and then got involved in that Swagger, Vickie, Dolph problem or whatever the hell that was and now hes absent. I dont know maybe he got hurt or something like that but this guy has to show his face or something but instead we are getting stupid promo packages hyping a guy who no one gives a shit about Brodus Clay and Big Zeke. Are You Serious Bro? WWWYKI

He was out injured for a while with a hip injury he got jus after Night of Champions and last I remember seeing him was on Superstars at the start of last month some time

yea i wondered that the other niite i really thought he was going to be the next u s champ then boom out the storyline and then Ryder appeared

He was out with an injury, he's back on superstarsk knocking off ring rust. He's kinda green in the ring at times just mauling guys, so that's probably why he's on superstars.

Alex Riley hasn't disappeared he's been appearing reguarly on Superstars.

Appearing on superstars is the same as disappearing. Superstarts is where mid-card tallent goes to die, and it's a shame Riley has been pushed to that show. You would figure they would at least put him on Smackdown. Just another example of WWE wasting talent. I'm not an Alex Riley fan, but I do think he has the goods to be star.

Actually I care way more about Brodus Clay than Alex Riley so it's wrong to assume everyone is going to agree with your opinion.

I'm not exactly sure what people saw in Riley because I saw a guy who didn't stand aesthetically, in the ring, on the mic or in any other way. I think it's a credit to the Miz and Micheal Cole for briefly making people give a damn about someone as run of the mill as Alex Riley.

Alex Riley is a better natural ******** heel. When he turned face he is just a regular generic babyface. I think he needs to run with more of a gimmick as a face to get him over. Personally I think he should be teamed up with Ted Dibiase or another bland babyface

Yeah, I have been wondering the same thing myself. Riley more or less vanished. His fan support died down pretty quickly after his feud with The Miz but they could at least have TRIED to give the guy something because he was over enough a few months ago to justify giving him another major feud, perhaps a US title push. They ruined that though by letting his support die down and now he's nowhere to be found. He's better suited to be a heel though anyhow. I say bring him back as his heel jock character from NXT and push him in the midcard to see how he does. I hope he does not get future endeavoured. Generally that is what tends to happen when someone is not seen onscreen for a long time.

Superstars, brah.
Seriously though, he's really nothing special. In-ring he was always green and never that good. But he made a good sidekick for The Miz. During his feud with Miz, he had the crowd behind him because The Miz was a hated heel and Riley was his abused sidekick finally getting revenge. After his feud with Miz died down, he lost that support. He's pretty much a generic face who isn't that great in the ring. I prefer him over Ryan, but that's a whole nother story. xD

They need to give Riley some kind of comeback...

Picture this....

After Zack Ryder wins the United States Championship, Dolph Ziggler ascends into the main event. Ziggler, deciding that the U.S. title isn't worth his time anymore, waives his rematch and gives it to Swagger, who beats Ryder decisively. The new U.S. Champion Swagger starts steamrolling through the Midcard, claiming that no one can stop him, until Alex Riley interrupts one of his promos. Swagger tells Riley "You don't belong in my ring. Your biggest claim to fame is getting dropped on your head and into irrelevance by ME." Riley gets pissed and kicks Swagger's ass, leading to a match at WM. Riley has his WM moment by winning his first title from the very man who "dropped him into irrelevance."

Later on that night, The Miz wins the WWE Championship from CM Punk in a hard fought match. The new U.S. Champion Alex Riley comes out to confront his former mentor, and the two former friends reunite and hug in the center of the ring, celebrating as champions. The Riley/Miz hug would effectively turn Miz face, as John Cena would be set to turn heel on the Rock at the end of WM.

You serious 'bro?

By that theory, you''re implying Riley's face influence is larger than Punk's..if anything that'd cement Riley's heel turn...

Miz's face turn would be fleshed out later in the few weeks. Miz would immediately be put in a program with the newly heel turned John Cena. Cena would talk about how Alex Riley disappointed him at WM. In Cena's mind, he took a step forward, and Riley took a step backward by "crawling back to the Miz." Cena claims that the cage match, and all the corny gay jokes he made about Miz & Riley were attempts to get Riley to break free of the Miz and be a star.

Riley would have his first U.S. Title defense against Zack Ryder. Cena would interfere, causing a DQ, gaining huge heel heat by attacking Riley and ruining Ryder's chances to regain the gold. Miz comes out to defend his friend and challenges Cena to a match. Cena refuses Miz's challenge but agrees to face Riley in a match next week.

As much as I hate champions jobbing in non-title matches, Riley would have to take a loss and a beatdown to the heel Cena. They would trade off many AA and You're Dismissed attempts until Cena just decides, "Fuck this", and tries to leave and get himself counted out. Miz gets in his face and says, "Get back in that ring, and give my best friend the fight of his life." Cena just says, "This is on you," gets back in the ring, and destroys Riley while Miz is forced to watch.

Another wasted talent along with the likes of Big Mac, Reks, Hawkins, kidd etc. Riley has a good presence! Use him WWE use him....jeeez use them all! I want veriety not the same over and over again!

I attended Raw on Memorial Day in Omaha, Nebraska (R-Truth threw water at "Big Jimmy" and Kharma made her pregnancy speech). That night Michael Cole called Riley to the ring to bitch at him for his treatment of Miz. With the exception of Cena, Riley got far and away the second biggest pop that night. The crowd was more rabid when he fought Miz and chased him off through the crowd. The point of this is that Riley was, and can, be a legitimate player for WWE.

It annoys me so much that WWE always claims that the wrestlers get themselves over. Yet when someone like Riley does they pull the carpet out from under him. I'm not advocating Riley be the next World Champion but the fact he isn't even on Raw in any way is silly. If you can fit bad Jim Ross comedy segments, completely repetitive Diva segments, Hornswaggle, 20 minute opening promos, Twitter nonsense, or Zack Ryder in multiple segments, then you could certainly fit in time to continue grooming a guy who could benefit the company. Riley has appeal, ability, and charisma. I'm baffled the guy can't get any television time.

Another example of WWE turning someone that is a natural born heel into a natural shitty ass no reaction face.

Riley does get reactions though. The problem is that the WWE doesn't put much effort into building their face characters.

Last time I watched Alex Riley he got a lukewarm face pop, if you could call it that. Send him to Smackdown and turn him heel again. I really liked him as the Varsity Villain that he was on NXT. What is he now? Cool theme music and please cheer for me because I turned on the Miz.

True enough that Riley was receiving poor reactions his last time on television. That being said, I don't fully blame Riley for it. Fans are fickle but are also smart enough to realize what is going on. It's not hard to figure out who WWE cares about and who they could care less about. Once it was apparent WWE had more or less given up on Riley, so did many of the fans. It's fruitless and frustrating to devote your time and energy to someone that WWE doesn't put one ounce of effort to.

Sending Riley to another show doesn't solve the problem either. If people don't care about Riley now, why would they care about him just because he turns heel. You have to instill reasons to care about wrestlers or they just end up being guys taking up television time. I'm not saying Riley couldn't succeed as a heel. He easily could. It's vital that he is given something, anything of merit to give us a reason to care. Face, heel, whatever. Give him a place on regular television, a feud, a new gimmick, something. Until something like that happens he is doomed to stay buried in his current grave.

And having Riley be a Face that just smiles and panders to the crowd because he is a face makes fans care about him?

Being repackaged & maybe cutting some promos seeming as he ain't half bad at them would be the best way to go on either brand RAW or Smackdown. He does remind me of a John Cena before the rap gimmick. I knew when he was teaming with Primo on house shows he was doomed.

It appears he was injured a while back and he's been on Superstars ever since. With Dolph Ziggler and Cody Rhodes moving up in their respective brands, Riley is sure to reappear on a show that actually matters sometime in the near future.

Alex Riley is destined to be someone big in the WWE. Riley displayed a ton of intensity in his feud with The Miz and that is certainly a rarity in today's WWE. Riley truly made me believe he wanted to stop the The Miz's heart. That takes pure talent. Not only that, he seems to support a great deal of charisma. He has a fine amount of mic skills and can stand on his own two feet to deliver a above average promo. The only area where I see a problem is Riley's in ring work. He's very sloppy and seems capable of seriously injuring someone. In my opinion, all he needs is a little work on his wrestling abilities (probably the reason he's on Superstars) and he'll do fine on Smackdown's midcard for the time being. I see a bright future of Alex Riley; my only question is - what the fuck is taking so long?

Better question: who cares?

He had a considerable shot at getting over, and the fans still didn't care about him. Every time he entered an area, he was met with a minimal, unimpressive reaction.

Perhaps it could work, given time, but for now, as history suggests, I say he isn't valuable in any tangible form and his disappearance largely doesn't matter.

Riley sounds pretty over there. For someone who just started his singles push, he was pretty over with the crowd. Riley had a ton of momentum going for him when he was tearing it up with The Miz earlier this year. That momentum suddenly stopped because of injury. A short push which lasted month really didn't show what Riley was capable of doing. When the crowd gives a solid reaction for someone as soon as they're are pushed, said superstar is certainly worth the time it takes to push him. I cetainly care where he is.

I agree with Hamler; Riley was almost a Main Event superstar, He was getting some of the largest pops some nights. And whoever said Riley hugging Miz would turn Miz face?, no. It wouldn't. That would surely be a Alex Riley heel turn. Some people are just naturally born heel's; Miz is one of them characters. I believe it is stupid to turn The Miz face Just for Riley's benefit. He doesn't need The Miz to be big. Look at Zack Ryder; he went from on superstars to in Main Events of Raw and Smackdown, and now he's actually bringing something to the United States title. This could give the United States championship prestige and Alex Riley could feud with Zack Ryder over the championship; if Riley where to turn heel.
