Advice from Lee

Lee

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it's Supermod!
For those who don't know I've been part of WZCW since the first Meltdown and have been head of creative. In fact there was a point where the admin team were going to close the fed down. I got a team together and the rest is history.

So I'll start with two pieces of advice to start with, I'll provide more when it goes on.

Feedback the shows.

This is an important one, give feedback to creative on things you liked or didn't like. Do it in a constructive way (I've definitely not done that in the past) and it allows creative to sort things out for future. No feedback and they think things are going well. Praise where praise is due but we're all e-buddies here we don't need to kiss ass.

Also actually read the shows, I know of people who just read their match but get into the full WZCW mythos.

Let Creative know what you want.

A few people have mentioned about creative getting the backstage segments etc. The important thing is to suggest ideas to creative, if they don't have any for your character they have two options:
A) Take a gamble at a segment.
B) Not use you.

If they take a gamble they may not get everything spot on. See the recent Vee A.D.Z. segment. Would you rather be used in a comedy role or not at all? It's a fine line for creative to pull. Why not suggest ideas. I wrote my backstage segment for Apocalypse.

I'll suggest more things coming up but a few of the newer fed members have been PMing me for feedback on their characters. Feel free to use this thread to ask for that or if you want to keep ideas secret drop me a PM (I do have a mod sized PM box after all).

EDIT: Also give me feedback, let me know what you think of my advice. If it's a pile of shit or useful.

The absolute biggest point that I can emphasize here, is the backstage segments. We're all in the same room together, where we can pitch all the segments we want for our guys. We try to fit in some of the guys involved in title feuds, but some get overlooked that deserve segments (Kagura, namely...sorry, Ech!).

There are 7 of us, and at any given point during the day, one of us is bound to be on. Pitch us segments. Pitch us feuds (for yourself). The worst we can say is "no", and unless it's completely batshit crazy, we'll definitely incorporate at least some of the elements of it.

Your advice is spot on. I sent Yaz an idea for continuing backstage segments that will further what I have in mind.

I've yet to hear back (probably cause real life and all that)

I do give constant feedback for both the RPs and the shows. Indeed there were a lot of negative critics arose for the way how Vee got eliminated; I was gutted as well. But I have PMed Yaz and NSL gave more than enough solid reason why I was used in that way. I'm quite alright with that. Also I have posted some negative critics about the Apocalypse and I reckon the creative have considered that as Dave gave me a rep for that.

I'm definitely onboard for mass-PM'ing segment ideas for Theron to you guys each round if necessary. I know juggling the Theronisms isn't easy. My promo for Kingdom Come made it onto the show, thus proving Lee's advice.

This round Haiku PM'd me to see if they could use Titus for the Showtime segment. I really liked that.

It may be worth if writing a backstage segment for someone you haven't before to drop a PM "Here's the idea, this is the thinking".

Also.......Why so much impatience on what happened? Maybe there's shit coming in the future, and you need to wait and see why some of these decisions were made, without me explaining things any further. Trust me...There's a lot of good things coming from this. Be patient.

This type of response is the biggest problem with giving feedback on the shows. Discredits everything said in the feedback because you don't know what's coming and you're just being impatient.

Really makes you wonder why bother giving feedback at all.

I never meant to discredit anyone from giving feedback. My apologies. This is my first round on Creative, and there's a lot of work that goes into each show, so to be behind the scenes, and see what's set up for rounds ahead of time, it's easy to forget that in reality, only 3 rounds has passed.

I don't give feedback because I generally never find anything wrong with shows or RPs.

I might if I put some thought into it but I usually don't.

I just complained and stayed in the fed long enough till they gave me a spot on creative.

On a more serious note however, just PM us, we're easy guys to talk to. You pitching your ideas is less work for us.

NB I'm not on creative, just offering 9 years worth of fed experience.

In regards to giving feedback for the shows, we definitely appreciate it. But both NSL and Prophet have a point. We understand that sometimes we might not tick all of the boxes that you'd like to see ticked. But the same is true of the WWE. They don't reveal everything on one show. No, they take their time with it and go for the slow reveal. It's frustrating sometimes but that's what happens.

Nevertheless, I've appreciated all the feedback. And I've also created a thread in the back where we address all of the "failings" that came out of the last round. Mark my words, no one wants to make this place better than we do. So hopefully you'll see a difference.

And this is why Dave's basically my e-fed mentor <3

Keep it simple...but not too much.

I'm coming up to 9 years with the fed. Titus has existed since the 2001 when I used to backyard with a aprticular WWE wrestler. I know Titus inside out, I know what makes him tick and what doesn't.

That being said his story of being a five time Oscar winner who was a superhero in Keystone City Kansas and a plethora of storylines can make it complicated.

I hone it back in to keep it simple. My logic is, if someone has never read a Titus Avison RP before will they understand this?

Yet for most of the time Titus' acting was thrown on the end, it's only since the heel turn I've really appreciated my gimmick. So don't keep it too simple.

Look at someone like Constantine or John Doe. Both are complicated yet their RP's are simple to understand. They're not dong 4 or 5 storylines at once, they keep it one or two at a time at most.

What I'm trying to say is:

Keep your story simple, but not too simple! Think of teen adult style level of books.

You did read that Tarantino-style piece I posted for Apocalypse, right? lol

You have a point though. Sometimes people get caught up with a good idea, and try to make it all happen in one round. Not only does it make the RPs longer than they really need to be, but it makes them confusing. I shouldn't need a dry erase board to keep up.

Yeah but that was planned for a while with an obvious reason for the peak. It's not a "here's 5 storylines in my first cycle".

Read others RPs

You don't need to give feedback but see what works. An example is M, quite a wacky character that may not work for Vee. It allows you to know who's at where and most people put some effort in.

Another reason it's worth it is for ideas. Before I post my RP I read other RPs. WHy? If say I'm using Leon as an interviewer and 6 others are I'll change to Klamor. It makes me stand out ever so slightly. Don't read your opponents RP before you post though, that's bad form.

See what works and what doesn't. You may have an idea but the way you write it is not too great. Compare John Doe to Eddie who had pretty big storyline changes in their Apocalypse RP yet one was written really well.

Expand your horizons.

Really good points.

Here's an example of what not to do.

The first RP is posted and then the second RP is a direct reply to the original. Taking all the content of the first and using it against them. That's against the rules and complete bullshit.

Yeah, that's a cheap cop out. I never read my opponents RP before mine is up. It makes mine harder to write because his keeps intruding on my thought process and I come up with things my character would say in response instead of what I want to do in my RP.

Message someone ask them if they fancy a feud. Suggest to creative.

Communicate with your opponent and book the feud (without results) yourself, see what creative think.

The first time I really saw this was Norcal v Anthony Michaels (who looks like Constantine). They even had storyline endings to matches, but generally we scrapped those after I came in as HOC.

An addendum to that...let us know if there's someone you'd rather not feud with. For instance: Titus and Showtime. They had faced each other enough, that when Showtime returned, they didn't want anything between the two.

We're open to ideas, and if we haven't reached out to you, then feel free to PM us. One of us is almost always on.

I've PMed Dave, Killjoy, and Yaz with various questions about my matches/character/segments/feud I thought would be a good idea.

They were all very receptive and answered my questions. They won't bite unless you ask them to first.

I hope Lee is ok with me doing this but I've got a bit of advice.

Don't be afraid to send your finished RP to proofread even if you go over it yourself. As the writer it's very easy for us to miss grammatical errors no matter how many times we proofread ourselves. IMO if a RP is rife with grammatical issues it takes away from the overall quality of the RP.

A personal example is this round I went over my finished RP at least twice and then sent it to Jeff to get his thoughts.

He pointed out a half dozen grammatical errors that I missed despite looking for them that would have taken the reader out of the story. Needless to say I fixed them.

If you have an idea tell ALL of creative not just the one or two. That way you know shit gets done.
