A permenant GM for RAW

Dark Match Jobber
I was reading on the Wrestlezone main page that the WWE creative is discussing doing away with the Guest Host angle.

Now who would you like to see as the new Raw GM, and why?

Being unrealistic, I would like to see, Austin, Rock, or Paul Heyman.

Steve Austin and The Rock have been there, done that in the ring. They know what it is to be the champ, and they can get physical if needed. I love Heyman's heel character. Hire a heel Mark Henry as a body guard.

Maybe its time for Jerry Lawler to put the headset down and be a GM. Maybe. Otherwise there's always Hornswoggle, LOL.

Thoughts?

I think since his broadcast career is coming to a close, I would advocate Jim Ross for the position. He is an intriguing character when he gets fired up, and being that this position would not require him to talk as extensively as being a broadcaster, I think it's a natural fit.

This also still keeps him as a strong face on the Raw broadcasts each and every week.

I know he's said multiple times that he wouldn't be going back to WWE, but I would love the idea of JBL getting back into the WWE as the Raw GM. He turned out to be a damn decent characters at times during his last couple runs in the company and would be more significant as a GM than an announcer like Mike Adamle or some other bland face like that. And since it's been a while since we've seen JBL, he may well seem fresh...ish.

Jerry Lawler isn't an awful idea either if he'd be going heel. The guy has had his moments in the past and if he were allowed to show some character again than he could really do a bunch of good in the roll and give some decent guys a rub by working angles with them, etc. Of course the WWE has shown what little interest they have in giving Lawler such a character.

Striker wouldn't be awful as a heel GM either, but he's far too needed in the booth these days.

Realistic options? I can't think of any. Maybe just cart out Steph or something. I have serious doubts that it'll exactly be an inspired choice, no matter who the choice ends up being.

Jim Ross is an interesting idea. If a long term deal can be worked out, I wouldn't mind seeing Bret Hart take the role. I think that the GM needs to be somebody that's over with the fans and is respected by the fans. I think it would also work best if it were someone that would stand up to Vince McMahon if and when its necessary.

I wouldn't mind an angle in which a GM for Raw is said to be picked by the various executives and corporate officers of the WWE rather than Vince McMahon himself. It could be worked out as something simple. Say Vince is backstage giving a momentary interview before he heads into his dressing room. In the middle of the interview, Arn Anderson or someone comes up to Vince and lets him know that an emergency meeting has been called and his presence is requested. Vince blows off the meeting, scolds Anderson or whoever for interrupting him and says he has more important things to take care of at the moment. In his absence, a new GM is picked and it's someone that Vince doesn't get along well with and, since he declined to participate in the meeting, he has no direct control over this GM. Only the WWE Board of Directors can hire or fire this person.

I guess I didn't think about Good Ol' JR. I agree word for word what you said about him. He's seemed to have a problem with McMahon. I think he could play an awesome face GM. I think he could use this opportunity to stick it to McMahon as well. For having Undertaker make JR kiss McMahons ass among all the other embarrassing things hes done to him during his career in the WWE.

im a very big undertaker fan so i would like to see american badass taker as gm... realistically, i think matt striker would my choice. his teacher gimmick would be perfect since a teacher is an authority figure. plus he is a former wrestler that is not getting in the ring anytime soon.

I think JR would be an excellent choice to be the new RAW GM. Like you said Lord, having JR talking non stop for a couple of hours is a big ask after his recent attack. Any GM on RAW would have to be a big name in order to maintain the prestige of the show. JR is one of the few people still kicking round the WWE that has been their 10+ years. Although by taking JR off the mic we are left with Michael Cole and his obvious commentary and his 'VINTAGE MICHAELS!' routine. Bittersweet innit? lol

BTW im new to the forum guys so its please to meet yas!

What about Bret? Didn't he sign a contract until after WM26? Heyman would be nice too. JBL is maybe the most realistic choice. He has some kind of status and he's a really good heel. GM's should have character, not be puppets like Tiffany :banghead:

The Rock? Stone Cold? Are you serious?? Never will happen. That role is below them. It wont happen. Especially for The Rock.

I dont think Bret Hart wants to stay around very long. Maybe enough to get his father in the HOF, but that's about all. His heart isnt in wrestling anymore.

JR is probably the most obvious choice. He needs a role. Much like Gorrilla Monsoon taking the "President" role back in the early 90s, JR could move from broadcasting to an on-camera role.

Heyman would be a great choice. I think he would actually be the best to take the role of GM. RAW needs a heel GM. Heyman is just a great on-screen personality and he's the best non-wrestling heel in the industry. Now the question is whether he would go back to WWE or not. I'm not sure he would, but man, it would be a great thing for RAW.

I think its about time to drop the GM/owner/boss angle from wrestling for a while. I think they've done every interesting angle since McMahon and Bischoff stepped out from behind their respective curtains during the Monday Night Wars. Time to get back to making the matches between the wrestlers and not some political power struggle.

I was under the impression that it was almost a definite that this was going to be Bret Hart the minute he signed a contract. I think without a doubt he is the most realistic decision, given he isn't going to do much else, besides fight Vince at Mania. Rock and Austin? I think either one of those two would be basically impossible to get. JBL doesn't want to come back, JR's health is down and out, and Stephanie is a mom (and she is a bit played out in that role). Bret is the only logical choice to me, seeing he is signed through Mania.

P.S. I hope to God it isn't that idiot Paul Heyman (whose commentary almost ruined WM17). Stryker isn't a big enough name to hold down that job (see Mike Adamle).

Tru dat, bruh man.

But seriously, the whole authority figure/General Manager came as a result of the end of the Monday Night Wars. The fans were used to seeing Eric Bischoff and Vince McMahon throw monkey shit at each other every week, but since Vince had bought WCW, there was nothing else to show. So Vince turned Smackdown into a rival of Raw and created the "General Manager" position. Well, it has gotten stale and the only people who have even been remotely entertaining at it lately were William Regal and Mike Adamle. Regal is on ECW tearing shit up, and Adamle is probably off somewhere showing his wang to children. Okay, he's probably not, but you get my idea: he's not in WWE. Since some real wrestling wars are about to begin, no need to have a shitty knockoff storyline. You can keep Vince around as an authority figure to announce big matches and be a douchenozzle to some of the superstars, but there is no need to have a GM. That would be lazy writing. Which the WWE knows nothing about, right?

what about The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase? He got good pops when he was guest host, and he could help in making his son turn face, which would be entertaining. I think they could make some great things happen story wise with him as GM.

JBL is my most realistic vote. He was an attractable heel, and probably will always be one. Another good GM would of been Ric Flair, but its a little late now.

Alright folks, I have a crazy and insane angle for this... It would be interesting to see them do something after the draft. It's a yearly thing, and makes an impact. What if Chris Jericho wins the belt, and gets a trade deal. But with his trade deal he is allowed to bring talent from the other brand. In fact, he came bring a stable, and have control of Raw. Sounds odd, but I think having a Wrestling GM heel could create some interesting story lines, a more physical version of Austin vs. McMahon.

On the side note, it wouldn't be bad not to have a GM as well. It's get a little old having authority figures just step in and get cheap pops, or create heat. Right now realism is a big factor in the US, and trying to have wrestling be more like a sport is realistic. You don't see in the NFL Commissioner making a game for the rights for home field advantage, and stripping titles away. No GM or Guest host for a while. Just wrestling story lines sound great.

The only GM I have actually been interested in was Eric Bischoff. He was so great at playing that role because he made it believable that there is an actual GM on the show who makes matches, and he was also a great heel. Obviously I would love for him to be back in that role, but there is I think about a 300% chance that will never ever happen again. But being realistically, I do like the JR idea, but I usually like GM's as heels better and I don't think JR at this point in his career would become a heel. JBL is actually a perfect example as someone said above. He is annoying, bossy, GREAT heel, and would be taken seriously as a GM.

This will never happen, but Macho Man Randy Savage. he would be unpredictable. Or Tommy Dreamer needs a job. He has a love of the business that would make him Believable. But if he was not so sick, Just imagine the Brain in this role. He would have to be a heel gm, but it would be great.

I Dont want to see Vickie Guerrero on Raw any more thats been done to death. The person I would like to see is JR. The man has been sitting at the announcers desk for years now and I would like to see him as a GM because I think because he's been around for so long that he would be given input into what will happen.

I think I would obviously be the first one to welcome an END of the guest host concept with open arms. It's been fun making fun of it through my sig and weekly rant, but I've hated it since day one. I think if they ended it then I would probably take out all the guys in my sig except for Piven, give him a longer thing to say rather than just "Summerfest?" and the FF4 guys would still be saying similar things to what Dagger/Cecil is saying now. I'll cross that bridge when I get there though.

But enough about my sig, now to answer the actual question.

I am almost positive that Bret Hart will be the new GM. The fans really like him, he's as great on the mic as ever, and him becoming a face authority figure would work great in his feud against Vince who is still the heel boss. It almost makes perfect since for Hart to be the one to end the guest host stuff, I honestly thought that would have been one of the things he did as the guest when they first announced he was going to host a Raw. I'd really like to see Bret become the GM for a while because it would be extremely entertaining and I would pick him on a permanent basis any day over seeing more celebrities who have no reason to be on Raw in the first place.

Jim Cornette as RAW general manager. The man is one of the smartest men in professional wrestling today, and he would be a great general manager for RAW. I like to see him as a heel since he is awesome as a heel. If not him then Bob Backlund, a legendary wrestler. He be amazing as RAW general manager aswell as a heel.

I like jbl he would b an excellent choice especially because of his big business man persona but I doubt he will come back. Depending on when this goes into effect Id love to see HBK do it. hes a legend so he has the respect factor. The person I realy want to see be GM that I always thought was a great GM was mick foley. I know he is with tna but there is always the possibility that he could jump ship. He was always great because he has the respect factor plus he was very unpredictable. To be honest tho I dont care who it is I just want the guest hosts gone. That is all that matters at this point is getting rid of these celebraties who dont know the business and are just there to push a product

Its more than likely that Mr Teddy long will be taking over. Knowing that he's on probation will ultimately get him fired from smackdown and getting the jump to raw. This would leave "excuse me!!!" as the smackdown GM.

I would love to see Jim ross as GM but wwe wouldn't want someone who could only move half his face as the face of their highest rated show.

I think it has been said before but I would definitely like to see JR try his hand at becoming the General Manager of Raw.

I also think that all of the necessities that are needed to be successful are pretty much in place. To my mind, you must be over with the crowd, which JR certainly. I don't think there has been a better commentator in the WWE since Monsoon and Jim Ross is a member of the Hall Of Fame. He is certainly adored by the fans and they would take to him like nothing else. I also think that you need to have a decent grasp of what is going on in the business. Mike Adamle showed us that is you have no idea what is going on, you are going to fail and fail hard. JR wouldn't have that problem. He is well-versed in the up-and-coming guys in the business and has a great wrestling brain. I am pretty sure that people would back the decisions he made, even though it is only a figurehead position. JR is a great choice and I would be intrigued to see how they would play it out if JR would take it. However, I would love to see him back on the desk if this is not a possibility.

There truley is no point in having a general manager. They have absolutely no say over anythign in the show. Vince tell's them what he wants them to say or do.... I have a great original concept. Hire a GM and actually give them the powers the job supposed to have, and let them make some matches and decisions. That would make raw truley fun to watch, cause you never know what kind of matches, or gimmicks etc... he would come up with. Vince McMahon is so power hungry that he's blind to the fact that he has done the same boring shit for the past 20 years, and letting someone else spontaniously come up with things for the shows would be great.
