I'm going with Machine Head. They brought life to the dying Metal scene in the mid 90's with their masterpiece Burn My Eyes. They released some lackluster albums after that, but their two latest albums are fantastic and they're one of the best live bands I've ever seen. The Blackening sold more copies in two weeks than Through the Ashes of Empires sold in three years, and I'm sure I read somewhere that they were the biggest selling Metal band last year.

I've never been a fan of Slipknot. I respect their influence and how popular they are, they're good live too, but I generally feel their albums have too much filler you have to wade through to find a half-decent song.

Coincidentally, Machine Head's Burn My Eyes was Roadrunners biggest selling album until Slipknot's debut in 1999.

Edit: Just to clarify, Machinehead is spelt as two seperate words, Machine Head :icon_razz:

Justin is gonna pull his hair out with this one!! hehe. Seriously, this is one hell of a metal showdown. Truthfully, I have not heard much from Machinehead. But as a metal fan, I am fully aware of the influence they've had on their genre. This is a tough call, but for me, it comes down to the simple fact that Corey Taylor is a metal god. My vote goes to the boys from Iowa.

It has to be Slipknot all the way. They introduced me to thrash and heavy metal in a way that seemed new and edgy(8 guys in Masks and guitars?!)

They are amazing live, are playing at Leeds fest (wooo!) and I havent heard a bad album from them so far!

Slipknot isn't that bad. I like a couple of their songs, like "My Plague", "Wait and Bleed" and "Spit it Out". But aside from those 3 tracks, they're pretty fucking terrible in my opinion. If I wanted to hear someone play the same song with three or four minor chord changes for an entire album, I'd buy a Perry Como album.

Machinehead are decent as well. They're like Slipknot in that I like a few of their songs, but not a lot of their stuff really does it for me. Atleast they're original though, I give them that.

Machinehead gets the nod here from me.

I'm going with Slipknot here. They are Roadrunners highest seller, and have has a lot more success than Machine Head. I think both are decent bands, but I give Slipknot the nod here just because of their mainstream success.

Machine Fucking Head all the way:headbanger:

First things first, IC I hate you for this match up, I really fucking do, you suck, LOL;)

now on to Machine Head, Machine Head is one of my favorite bands to see live, their shows are fucking crazy, and they throw just as much energy into the show as the crowd throws back at them, I first heard of this band on a compilation disc I got awhile back, but the song it featured by them was From this Day, which sounded like most of the other stuff on the radio back then, so I kinda forgot about them until years later, when I heard some of there more true heavy shit, and then when I saw them live last year with Lamb Of God and Trivium, I was hooked and have been listening to everything by these guys ever since, going back and finding all the great stuff I had been missing out on, my favorite songs by these guys would have to Aesthetics of Hate, and The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears, those are the first two songs that always come to mind when someone mentions these guys, they are a great true metal band, heavy as fuck and know how to play a good show that will get everyone in the crowd going nuts, every fan of metal should own a copy of The Blackening, this album is easily one of the best metal albums I have ever heard, every time I meet someone who has never heard of these guys, this is the CD I burn for them, and every person I've provided with a copy of this CD has become a fan, Machine Head is one of those bands that can and does seem to win a shit load of fans over through there live shows, I recently saw these guys again just a couple months ago with Hellyeah, and I swear just about every single person at that show left with a Machine Head shirt, Machine Head all the fucking way

now onto Slipknot, these guys are another band I love, and Corey Taylor is fucking great frontman, and Joey Jordison is a great drummer, though really the only time I find myself really listening to these guys is when I'm angry or in a really bad mood, I mean it's kinda hard to listen to a song like People=Shit when your happy, the only CD I really listen to of theres is Live: Version 9.0, it really has pretty much everything you could want by these guys and lets them shine where they are at their best, on stage

In the end, as I've said already I love both these bands, but Machine Head gets my vote, they are the better band, incidentally both these bands are gonna be on tour together this summer, and not a single show on the fucking tour is coming anywhere fucking near me:mad:

Slipknot are decent but, Listen to Metal Hammer's metal album of 2007 before you make this call. The Blackening is close to being the Perfect Metal Album. I like Slipknot I really do. But Machine Head are that fucking good that I got hooked by the opening notes of "As I Lay Thee Down" which I got on a compilation of music when I got Ghost Reveries by Opeth who is also missing from this tournament when there are duplicate bands all over the place. But Vote Machine Head. At the very Least listen to The Blackening.

I Can Highly Recommend It

ima go with Machine Head purley for the simple fact that there allways reliable. They allways bring the shit when we need it and thats somthing slipknot cant do. I think slipknot is a kickass band but theyve been watered down over the last few years by the ******s that lisiten to them because of all the publicity there getting. Both bands have awsome players in all aspects but i have to say i like Machinehead's singer better. Really the only thing that would make me want to vote forr slipknot would be chriss and joey, Because i think they along with cory make the band. But thats just me so my vote as a hole band would be MachineFuckingHead!

Im sorry but id have to go with Slipknot on this one because honestly, who has the better singer phatso? obviously Cory Taylor is no doubt... i fmachine heads singer was better im sure apocalyptica would have had him sing "IM NOT JESUS" insted of of Corey Taylor but i do agree with you that joey jordison and CHris fenn are f*cking awesome! but u forgot the others...like sid wilson? hes a damn good Dj...but this is just one mans opinion.ANd FOleyisgod is right i think becuase that is crazy how eight guys sing in masks and guitars and they did also introduce me into heavy metal!

Corey Taylor is more of a Well known name than Rob Flynn despite it being arguable about who the better vocalist is and who has the greater range in terms of Ability. Machine Head are Metal and were not as huge as Slipknot ever got when they were running in the same time frame. Musically it is Machine Head that beats Slipknot, there is a depth to Machine Head lyrics that you won't see in the majority of Slipknot songs.

First of all this is a tournament to determine the better band, not better frontman, and Machine Head is far and away the better band is this one, and second of all, who the fuck is apocalyptica?!?, seriously your gonna say Corey is better cause some band no one has heard of pick him to do a song with them?!?, that's just ridiculous, I mean if you're gonna use that as you bases to determine who's better than at least fined a band people know about

who the fuck is apocalyptica?!?
Apocalyptica is a group of four guys that play Metallica covers on cellos. They've started branching off into other covers, but they started with Metallica covers, and they're known most for them. They're pretty cool to listen to.

ima go with Machine Head purley for the simple fact that there allways reliable.
Always reliable? Is that why, after their debut, their album sales got progressively lower, tickets to see them live were in less demand than after Burn My Eyes? Hell, Roadrunner even dropped them from their label not long after the release of Supercharger since the album sales were so poor and weren't making a profit. Does that sound like a band who's 'reliable'?

who the fuck is apocalyptica?!?, seriously your gonna say Corey is better cause some band no one has heard of
So now because you haven't heard of Apocalyptica, 'nobody' has heard of them? Considering they've sold over two million albums worldwide and recently played a sold out tour throughout Europe, I'd say they're moderately well known.

I want to add to this. Please remember, everyone, that this is Slipknot vs Machine Head. Corey Taylor doing Stone Sour should not be taken into account, so if you are arguing Taylor as the best front man, do so as front man of Slipknot - band vs band. Same way we don't vote for Soundgarden because Chris Cornell was also in Temple of the Dog and Audioslave.
