2012 NFL Draft LD

It's now being reported that the Browns were planning on taking Kendall Wright at 22 but when the Titans got him at 20, Weeden became the Browns new target.

Eh. As I outlined in my opening post, I'm not that crazy about drafting a receiver. With the elite RB in Richardson, I'd prefer to go all in on the ground game and make the best of it, which is why I wanted Glenn at 22. Glenn might be available still at 37, though, and since I would have taken Weeden 37, if they go that way, it'll basically be a wash.

If Glenn goes ahead of them, though, might as well take Hill at 37 and make the best of it.

Don't forget that Jonathan Martin is still available as well. Having him at right tackle opposite Joe Thomas could potentially give you one of the better tackle tandems in the game.

True, but I wonder if they couldn't get Martin in the third.

mccoy might get traded to the packers according to espn.com

I'm fine with it. Weeden or McCoy is basically a wash. At least Weeden has the potential. McCoy never showed he had much. I do like the guy a whole lot and wish him the best if indeed he does depart. With our luck, Aaron Rodgers will go down in Week 1, McCoy will start and suddenly prove that he's a Pro Bowl quarterback and lead the Packers to a Superbowl.

I understand not wanting an "elite" safety in the first round. However, we're talking about pick #29. It's late enough in the First round to merit it.

Honestly he reminds me of Jim Leonhard. He's a smart player, he could have been the signal caller on D, and he makes plays.

Well that's just it. If he is like Leonhard, then he's a good player but not a great one. That's fine for a day 2 pick but not day 1. Also, I like Brandon Taylor more so if safety is still something the Jets want to look at, I'd be fine looking in that direction.

Cro isn't a free safety. Only way they can move him is if they can get a second elite corner. There isn't anyone like that available. No one in the draft, and no one in Free Agency.

Unfortunately true. I wish Kyle Wilson developed so this was an option but I think Cromartie would be excellent as a free safety. His best attribute is getting after balls when given the opportunity. As a free safety, he'd be able to play in space and I think he'd come up with quite a few INTs. I was hoping the Jets would look at Cortland Finnegan (punk I know but dude can play) so that they could consider this. Unfortunately all the good CBs on the market came and went and here we are.

And the Jets like having multiple Safeties. Leonhard would be welcomed back with open arms.

Not if he wants to get paid. Hard to pay 3 safeties decent money. If they want depth, it'll have to come cheaper. Unless Leonhard wants to play for cheap which would be fine by me.

Coples had 10 sacks in 2010. He gets sacks. He's not an edge rusher, but he's gotten sacks. And this kid

Coples will get to the QB I'm sure but I'm pretty sure he'll be playing 3-4 End, not Rush LB. Therefore, hell have to be stout against the run and do the little things. If he can produce like Shawn Ellis in this scheme with 6-8 sacks as well as eating up blockers, I'd be very happy. Plus, if he eats up blockers it will help the next guy..........

And don't forget, they do have an edge pass rusher, whom was drafted 11th overall in the 2009 draft. 6 sacks in 2011, I can easily see get into double digits, especially since reports are that he has bulked up a bit, and is looking to play this year at 245-250.

I'm hopeful with Maybin but it's an unknown. I do hope he emerges in that double digit range. We've needed a guy like that for years. If he's it, great. However, I also think about San Diego a few years ago having Merriman and Shawn Phillips come off both edges getting double digit sacks. I think our scheme could get away with not having that due to the middle linebackers blitzing as well, but it would be nice to have guys that actually get to the QB when asked which I can't really say for Bryan Thomas or Calvin Pace.

Today's big for us man. Let's hope the Jets do well with their day 2 picks.

I wish the Pats would take LaMichael James because I'm worried about their RB situation, but they probably won't because they drafted 2 shitty RB's last year. I guess they'll just rely on FA. Benson and Grant are still available...

Thought about things a bit more. I've decided that the best course of action this season is to give Weeden weapons and see if he has the potential to be a franchise QB, so I suppose a WR at 37 is a good idea. We can probably find a good RT at 67. Honestly, if we walk out of this draft with a RB, QB, RT, and WR from the first three rounds...it was a pretty good draft.

I still like Greg Little from last year as well. Second round pick from last year and can be physical and make the tough catch. Don't know what his ceiling is, but I like him as a player. If you add a speed guy (Randle is a solid fit in that role), that might be a decent duo for Weeden to work with.

LaMichael James should be a late round pick. There are plenty of better running backs in the draft. Besides, Stevan Ridley had a good season last year averaging over 5 ypc.

The Pats are such a weird team. I feel like they need a lot of help in the secondary, they could use another defensive end and a linebacker, they don't have a big time RB, they could use a speedy wideout and more O-line depth but they are still awesome and just made the SB.

More reason to give Belicheck and Brady a ton of credit. Those assholes! :banghead:

Watching the draft you realize why some franchises stay successful for a long time. Baltimore traded back to round 2 and got a first round talent that will learn from Terrell Suggs and Ray Lewis. Safe to say that team knows what they are doing.

So is RG3 a good pick for the Redskins? - Sorry I dont follow college football.

He projects as well as any quarterback can out of the draft. He'll have to adjust a bit to Shanahan's offense, but he has as much potential as you can ask for.

Again, there's really minimal difference between pick 29 and 39. But I was pissed that he didn't fall to the Jets in round 2 (day 2), not that the Jets didn't trade up.

Jets couldn't afford Finnegan. And don't write off Wilson, either.

And Cro can't play zone, which scares me about him as a safety. He's terrible at it.

He's not getting anything more then cheap. Back to back IR seasons.

They expect him to be better then Ellis. Ellis was great. I take that.

Calvin Pace is also a solid rusher. Not dominant at all, but a pass rusher. rush 4 of the following and you're good.Pace, Maybin, Pouha, Coples, Wilkerson. Plus Coples/Pouha/Wilkerson is a great 3-4 front 3.

Thug Jenkins to Jeff Fisher. He likes to draft thugs. Hopefully he stops the off-field nonsense.

Hey Harthan, you got the OT you needed (and the Browns liked). That's why they got Weeden.

I thought Glenn was the man but apparently the Browns see something in this guy. Certainly they have more scouting resources than I do. I'm just happy they took the tackle. Was the right move to make.

Yeah. I tend to not like the idea of drafting a lineman that played one position in college, just to move him to a new spot in the NFL.

Glenn went to the Bills.

Martin went to the Dolphins

Jets are on the clock!

FUCK, WE NEEDED A TACKLE TOO!

Jets move up, I like this. We have great success when Mike Tannenbaum moves up.

They must be looking at someone and are making sure they get him. The pick came in quick.

Well, dude has the measurables. Gotta teach him how to be important in an offense though. Definite potential though. I can dig it.

So Sal Pal said that apparently this guy can block too? Shit, 4.3 40 AND can block? Hell, he doesn't need to do anything else. Run straight and block on running plays.
