2011 Royal Rumble card feels slightly "half-assed" to me

I agree but at the same time I believe that WWE always has something up their sleve when it comes to major PPV's like the Royal Rumble. I'm looking forwrd to Edge vs Ziggler for the simple fact that I know it'll be an entertaining match. Edge and Ziggler are two of the best wrestlers in the company and I can see excitement similar to the John Morrison vs Sheamus ppv match we saw not long ago. I dont think this match needs a lot of hype to be concidered one of the greats although to your credit I do see a lack of storyline leading up to it, especially it being part of such a major PPV like the Rumble.

Miz and Orton, well I dont know about this one. They're two of my favorites gimmick wise but I dont think they have that chemistry in the ring that will make it a good match. I think its more of a transitional match to end the rivalry and either take the title of of Miz's hands before Mania or bump Orton down to something other than the WWE title, possibly even take some time off to heal from those neck and back injuries we've heard about. As far as for the divas match, I could really care less, and I think a lot of people can agree. Now the Rumble is what I'm really hyped for. All this talk about Booker T and Kevin Nash has me speculating. Even if they dont show up, it'll be fun to see who, given WWE's current lack of star power, will be given the chance to headline Wrestlemania this year. So yes, the Rumble has its ups and its downs but I still plan to watch it.

this will be the first royal rumbler since 1999 i wont be ordering or watching. The wwe product on ppv is just so damn predictable now. After Summerslam wwe has bin really stupid. Tonites rumbler winner probably cena or punk. back in the day wwe had great royal rumblers, very exciting to watch even the mid card matches and mainevent matches. NOW ITS MEH.. even in the mid 90s when wwe was falling off the royal rumbler still had a great feel to it.. the road to wrestlemania this year is starting off as a traffic jam so boring... and the 40 person rumbler just means 10 more jobbers are added to it!!!!

I don't agree but I don't disagree either.

It is a strange scenario, whereby the WWE have put all of their stock into a 40 man Royal Rumble match and now there really isn't a whole lot of talent to compete in the other matches that the WWE would have liked to have put on. People like Daniel Bryan, Kofi Kingston, Mark Henry, John Morrison and Kane all play a huge part in the story telling aspect of the Rumble match and with 40 people now in the Rumble match, then it means those names, usually in the mid-card, will be all the more vitally important in trying to install some sort of familiarity to the match. The last thing the WWE wants is for the match to be bogged down with no-name talents from FCW making up the final 10 people... That is not fun for anyone.

So, for that reason, the Royal Rumble seems to be a little shy on matches but I am more than sure that the Royal Rumble match, where the people who would normally contest these matches will be, will make up for it being a little short. You cannot have one of these things, without having to sacrifice another and that is all that has happened. The matches, out-with the Rumble match, that are still happening, ought to be pretty bad-ass too. The Championship matches have been building really nicely and the angles that come with those have been bubbling away over the last couple of weeks. Ziggler and Orton could win the Championships tonight and that is testament to the fact that the WWE have built those matches really well.

The WWE and the wrestling world in general feels half-assed to me. There's too many PPVs...and that gets in the way of building feuds. When you have a PPV every month you have no choice but to rush the feud, and when you do that it doesn't have any meaning to it.

Complaining about it won't do a damn thing because it'll never chance. PPVs create money, and in the end, that's all that matters (to them).

That may be true, but I feel like if enough people get behind the feud then it can unfold over more than one pay per view. Mid card feuds should probably have one ppv, another free match, then a one off at another PPV with time for promos in between. ME feuds should last at max 3 months and have something added to it at every possible event.

I feel like if this Royal Rumble PPV would be "half-assed" it'd be more because the Rumble having no build-up rather than lack of matches. It really doesn't feel like it's the start of the RTWM at all. Many people are getting excited for other reasons like the fact that it's the Rumble and rumor has it there might be some surprise entrants but other that, this Rumble barely has any build-up to it. The IWC is doing more for the build-up than the WWE has done over the last 6 weeks.

When I think about it, I'm actually kind of glad that the card is light on matches because 90% of the people that are buying the PPV are buying it for the Rumble match, not to see Miz or Edge obviously retain their titles but they want to see the Rumble match and who will headline Wrestlemania. When all you want to see is the rumble, the other matches just get in the way and make you want them to hurry up & finish already so you can see what you've paid $50 for.

The answer has two parts:

One: There will possibly be an unannounced match, which WWE does often nowadays, and maybe the reason they are doing this is hoping people will have an extra motivation in buying PPV. People buying the PPV don't know what they expect and might have high hopes for the unannounced match. Announcing a match that doesnt draw is always a possibility, so they are trying to keep the excitement/hopes high. Do i think it works? NO! But that what the management thinks i guess.

Two: Royal Rumble is not your typical PPV. You don't buy this PPV for watching the title defense. You can have the greatest match of the year in the card, but if you book the rumble match right it will always draw more. This year there are just too many hypes of wrestlers returning to WWE. WWE relies on that excitement/suprise factor to draw, and i think rightfully so. On this specific PPV, you don't need a great card as long as you can hype up the Rumble match. Thats why this is the second biggest PPV of the year.

I agree with you. The IC belt used to be much more meaningful back in days when Brutus the Barber Beefcake and Ted Dibiase(the talented one) were feuding. It had more of a main event feel to it, and now? Polar opposite.

CO-SIGN!!!

and I was thinking the same thing until 1. C.M's NEXXUS started taking over and until sumwhere in the late teens or early 20's when booker came in...
