2010 Winter Paralympics

Mr. TM

Throwing a tantrum
As some of you may know, with the Olympics comes it sister competition, the Paralympics for the disabled population. Although no where near as large as Olympics, the PL is still fun to watch and quite competitive.

So will anyone else be watching? I think after the success Canada had, many Canadians will be tuning in. I know I will be for sledge hockey. Canada will look to cap off its two golds with another in sledge hockey. I think everyone is hoping for a third Canada against USA matchup in the finals.

I watched the first sledge hockey game for Team Canada today. We played against the Italians in a game we should have dominated, Italy being the poorer team in the division. We face a better, yet still poor team Sweden tomorrow.

We didn't do as well as we liked early, as we were 1-0 against the Italians for a long time, but we did break out near the end, and won the game 4-0. It was a great game, pretty fast paced, and Santino (epic name) kept Italy in it until the unslaught. Our third game is gonig to be the biggest challenge, as we take on the #2 rated Norweigans.

ok, I don't want to sound like an ass or anything, but what he hell is Sledge Hockey?

I would guess it's hockey played with a sledgehammer. If so, then in my first pick of the Sledge Hockey Fantasy Draft I want Triple H. (sarcasm)

Oh, and Papalympics are a cool thing, but to be honest, it isn't something I would turn my TV on for. If I was thumbing through the channels and it was on, maybe (especially the Skiing stuff)' they had some of that on the X-Games, and it was pretty cool. Although this Sledge-hockey sounds intriguing.

Sledgehockey is hockey on a sledge (also known as an ice sleigh) for people who lack mobility to play stand up ice hockey. They play similar to IIHF hockey rules, except they have two sticks, that also act as poles to move around the ice.

Canucks played Sweden, and lets just say, Sweden did not have fun at hockey this year. Canada took a 10-1 victory to move on to the semifinals. But the spot of the playoffs hasn;t been decided yet. They will either get first or second seed, depending on how they do against the other competitor, Norway. Norway hasn't done well so far, they are 2-0, but have only won each game by 1. On the other side, Japan and USA will have the same problem as they fight it out. I have money in USA, they have looked a little better.

Destiny I guess. Canada and the US each had bit shutout wins tonight, Canada of course facing the much better opponent in #2 Norway, beating them 5-0. They now switch up opponents for the semifinals as Canada plays Japan and Norway and the US meet for the chance to play Canada, after they beat Japan.

Canada sits second in Medals, as Russia, who were quite a disappointment in the Olympics has a huge lead in total medals over us, and Ukraine. USA sits at only 4 medals.

I haven't seen any of the Paralympics because 1) I don't see them on TV and 2) Sports networks don't even show the highlights. The only thing that gets coverage is sledge hockey so atleast I know what's going on there. Canada had a solid win against Norway and now face Japan in the semis. The USA face Norway in the other semi and I can't believe it, but Canada and the USA have a chance to face off for a third time in this Olympic season. Of course it hasn't happened yet, but it will be very interesting if it did. If I can catch the game on TV then I'll watch it, but if not I'll make sure to catch the highlights. Let's go Canada!

Well the triple gold isn't going to happen for Canada. The biggest shocker in the entire tournament, Japan has beaten Canada 3-1. Canada will have to hope for Bronze, as they will meet their divisionmate Norway for the medal. This sets up Japan and US final in which the US should win, as they have already beaten Japan. Hopefully we can beat the Norwegians again, just to assure that we get a medal. Real heartbreaker that game.

I just got the highlights of this game and boy is that a heart breaker. I was really hoping for a triple gold and a match with the Americans again, but you gotta hand it to Japan, they came out and played hard and got the win. Canada can still get the bronze medal and we'll be cheering for them just as hard. Let's go boys and get that bronze!

Well the Olympics are officially over now and I must say, Canada did well. They came in third for golds at 10, and came in third for total medals. There were some disappointments for me, as the only event I watch is the sledge hockey Canada only came in fourth there, as the Japanese stunned the world, taking a Silver. United States made up for its lack of Gold in Olympic Hockey by getting it this year.

I feel sorry for Canada, almost ever goal against them was a fluke of nature goal, including a lobbed shot into the corner of the net to finish off their gold medal chances against Japan.

With the rise in popularity this year, it was good to see, and I hope it continues into Sochi in 2014.
