both movies have their merits, both movies have their following, but one movie is leaps and bounds better then the other movie.

Termiator, one of my favorite movies ever. Has spawned a wonderful franchise, and a television show that I simply love. Iconic figures like the t-800, t-1000, hunter killers and the lot will be forever put into the minds of anyone that has watched them. Most will say the second terminator is better, I beg to differ. Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor's tragic love story is more powerful then anything the second movie could ever dream of. It's a shame the deleted scene in T2 was indeed cut out. The scene with Reese and Connor reminds everyone that the story had humble roots. Plus, this movie launched James Cameron's career into the stratospher, not to mention the man that played the title role. Sure, everyone likes the fatherlike Terminator Arnold plays in number 2, but his best role was the cold blooded, psychotic methodical terminator fromt eh first movie. He place that role to icy perfection.

All that praise, and yet this movie fails to compare with the Empire Strikes Back, quite honestly, the best sequel ever made. All of the hype, all of the success that the first movie had, put an incredible weight on the shoulders of Irvin Kurschner. with a seemingly limitless budget, instead of goign bigger is better, he shrunk the scale of the movie, and it worked wonders. Instead of trying to outdo the huge Death Star battle, this movie became the spiritual movie. It dived into the backstory of the force, explored the love of Han and Leia, showed the training of Luke from farm boy to impetuous youth/jedi in training. It dove intot he obsession of Vader and why he wanted to find Skywalker. It introduced us to Boba Fett and a man that Vader even bowed to, the Emperor. We got the story of confliction within Lando, Han frozen in carbonite. It gave us teh best cliffhanger in the history of cinema, and I challenge anyone to dispute that. And ultimately, it gave us the best plot twist of all time with Vader being lukes Father, and I also challenge anyone to dispute that.

I love both movies, but Empire is the superior sci-fi movie. Not only that, but Empire is a true masterpiece of movie making, despite it's genre.

Two of my favourite movies, but The Empire Strikes Back is a lot better than The Terminator. IMO, The Terminator isn't even the best movie in the series, that would go to T2. Unlike Shocky, I preferred the father figure to the cold-blooded killer. But The Empire Strikes Back is definately the best movie of the Star Wars series, I'd say the best movie of the 80s and imo in the top 5 movies ever.

Both movies have great plots, and its hard for me to decide which is better. On one hand, you have a man come back from the future to protect the mother of the man who will defeat the robots in the future, from a robot. Intertwined with the love story of Kyle and Sarah. On the other, well now that I think about, its hard to explain The Empire Strikes Back's plot, since there are so many different parts to it. But it has, as Shocky said, the best cliffhanger ever, and the one of the best plot twists ever. Terminator also has a plot twist, with Kyle turning out to be John's father, but it wasn't as big.

The Empire Strikes Back also has some awesome special and visual effects, and I would say they eclipse The Terminator's by far. To me, all of The Empire Strikes Back looked realistic, but in the end of The Terminator, the actual Terminator looked fake. And I think that The Empire Strikes Back is just an overall film, and nearly all aspects of it are better than The Terminator, which is a good movie in its own right. But it can't compete with The Empire Strikes Back.

The Empire Strikes Back

I've seen the first three Star Wars, and hated them all. I cannot stand those films. They are just horrendous to me.

However, The Terminator, while not as good as number 2, is an abo****e classic in my household. I love this movie. The violence, action, drama, ect.; it's just a magaical fucking film that also set-up for not just THE greatest action flick ever made, but one of the greatest movies of all time period in T2.

So, The Terminator wins this for me and it's not even close.

The Terminator. I have come to the rescue for this film. The Terminator is a special effects movie that doesn't really on those special effects to carry the movie. Star Wars does, not just the first, not the last, all of them did, especially Empire Strikes Back. I saw more heard in the storyline of the Shawn Michaels/Chris Jericho storyline this year in the WWE then I ever say in Empire Strikes Back. Too bad they didn't have light sabres, because Jericho and Shawn would have made Vince a Billion bucks. Terminator actually had a good story line, and it is just backed up with the special effects. Sorry Star Wars, you need to go home. They hype is up around here.

I really don't see how this is close. The Terminator is good, but it no way did I ever expect it to make it this far, and it's definitely not beating The Empire Strikes Back. Empire deserves to be in the disussion of sequels that are better than the originals. There are very few films that can say that. Superman 2, Godfather Part 2, T2: Judgment Day (another reason I don't believe Terminator should win this), and more contemporary films like Spider-Man 2 and The Dark Knight. Empire is easily the best Star Wars film, and should be the film that represents the 80's in the finals.

Huh. This tells me one of two things, you've actually never seen the Emprie Strike Back, or your so blinded by Star Wars hate that you can't acknowledge that Empire is indeed a great film. Empire relied on special effects, how. That movie is probably the movie out of all six that relied the least on special effects, and is pretty much universally considered to be the best of the six, and pretty much universally considered to be the masterpiece movie of science fiction. That's not me talkign, that's a working majority of most critics opinions. You can not like the Star Wars movies, but to say something as ridiculous as Empire relied the most on special effects is bending the truth to the breaking point.

I hate Star Wars. I like The Terminator. These movies are close yet so different. If there was one movie that I would have to pick over a movie I liked though it would have to be The Empire Strikes Back. Nothing can really compare to it. It's a mind fuck of a movie and it deserves to beat The Terminator.

As much as it pains me. My vote goes to The Empire Strikes Back.
