The Karate Kid

Here we have a movie that is the quentessential 80s movie in the Karate Kid. The music, the story, the fight scenes, all over the top and great fun. The sequels however suck, but for one movie, its great. Morita is awesome as the sage, and the Crane kick is just awesome.

However, it will be lucky to avoid a shutout. Ghostbusters is absolutely amazing. The comedy in here is so great that it blows almost every other comedy away in this decade. The cast is amazing and the plot is epic. It inspired so many spinoffs and parodies that its own awesomeness is almost forgotten, but here it handles things easily.

Oh boy, kill the inner child in me with this matchup. Ralph Machio as the 30 year old Karate Kid is a fantastic movie. It's very quote worthy with Wax on and Wax off. The Cobra's are an iconic group, and I can't remember anyone growing up that didn't try to emulate the Crane Kick.

That being said, Ghostbusters just blows everything away. The main four characters are so strong, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver are fantastic, and this movie is even more quote worthy then the Karate Kid. Plus, Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and Slimer, need I say more?

This seems like a hard choice, but it's not. I really like "Ghostbusters". It's one of the few 'Sci-Fi' movies I like, but hardly any movie beats "The Karate Kid" in my mind, and "Ghostbusters is not even close to being one of them. "The Karate Kid" gets my vote here.

I said in another voting match-up that "Rocky" is the second greatest underdog story ever told. Well, I said second because I believe "The Karate Kid" is the first. Like "Good Will Hunting", it's a flawless fucking film. How can you not root for such an underdog like Daniel? How could you not love Mr. Miyagi? How could you not hate Johnny, his teammates and his fucking sensei John Kreese? How could you not fall head over heels in love with Ali with an "I"? All these questions cannot be answered and that's what makes "The Karate Kid" better then "Ghostbusters". Also, the ending... holy shit, has there ever been a more epic ending to a movie? I personally don't think so.

"The Karate Kid" is just one of the most awesome films ever created. Love it.

Well I'd lose a good friend if he read the forums over this, but I'm sorry Karate Kid, you're chopped. GhostBusters is an excellent comedy. It doesn't rely on crude humour, but it is easy humour. Has anyone not seen this movie? Has anyone not seen this movie listed on a TV Guide and not planned to watch this? It seems that this is the comedy of my generation. I can't vote against it. Ghostbusters FTW

Who you gonna vote for?

GHOSTBUSTERS.

Ok, I did the bold decision out of order from my normal outline of these discussions, but I couldn't resist. I don't really know what to say to defend Ghostbusters in this match. Karate Kid was entertaining and everything and it has a place in everyone's heart, but nothing like Ghostbusters. It just doesn't come close.

BTW, fun fact that some people might not know, supposedly John Belushi was supposed to play Peter before he passed away, and the character of Slimer is rumored to have been based on Belushi as a tribute. Makes sense. Big loveable oaf type of character.

This is a hard choice. I love both of these movies. Ghostbusters is a really funny movie, with the quote that everyone knows "Who you gonna call?" However, Karate Kid has one of my favourite quotes, I don't know why it is one of mine, "Wax on, wax off."

Both had good storylines, but I preferred the Karate Kid's storyline, a true underdog story. Going from nearly nothing to winning the tournament against someone who's twice his size. It could happen inreal life. But Ghostbusters storyine is just stupid when you think about it. A group of guys who go around fighting and capturing ghosts, then they have to defeat the greatest ghost who is about to take over the world. Just really stupid IMO.

As Shocky said, nobody has grown up without trying the Crane kick. I'm only 14, even i've tried to do it several times. Its an awesome ending to a great movie, he uses that famous kick to end it. And the characters were played very well, whether it be the way you are made to hate the cobras, or how you love Mr. Miyagi and his different methods, each character is played very well. Ghostbusters also had some awesome acting, but it was more just being stupid for the most part of it, while The Karate Kid had more emotional and demanding acting.

I'm going to have to say the Karate Kid clinches it here, but this is going to be close.

Never been that big into either of these movies. But I have seen Ghostbusters quite a few times and know it's significance in cinema. I liked it, but I never fell head over heels with it like a lot of people did. The Karate Kid however, I can not stand. I really think it's quite a lousy movie. So that right there makes me vote for Ghostbusters. Which I at least enjoyed.

Its a good matchup, but Daniel-san cannot hope to defeat Bill Murray in his prime with the crane kick. I like Karate Kid, but, c'mon. Ghostbusters is one of the all-time greatest comedies.

The Karate Kid is shit. Liked only by people who grew up watching it. It was released again last year it was called Never Back Down. That was shit to. And it's been made a million times over, all straight to video trash. Ghostbusters was excellent. It inspired a cartoon, toy line, and even today talk of a sequel is enough to get people excited.
