Divas divison

Beth Phoenix, Michelle McCool, Natalya Neidhart, Gail Kim, Maryse and Awesome Kong would make an awesome womens division in any company in the world. WWE will wake up to that in my opinion once Awesome Kong debuts.

Matches like Awesome Kong and Beth Phoenix will be good to watch, and I can't see too many women WWE could add to make that a better Diva's division, except maybe bringing back Victoria.

All depends how they use them, and book them, and WWE don't really do their best when booking Diva's. Nice to see from the reports though that they're improving.

You guys keep forgetting MELINA she rocks as well shes just been made to job now.............. which pisses me off :banghead:

They get the opportunity to wrestle well at house shows. They aren't made to be in 90 second matches that go nowhere.

I remember a Maria Kanellis "shoot interview" where she said they aren't allowed to do certain things, and how they are never given any time. Also talked about how Fit Finlay is the defender of the divas and how they never get time to shine.

Next time you hear or say "this divas' match sucked!" look at how long they were in the ring for. 90 seconds you can't put on a good match. And the "it was good for what it was" doesn't mean anything.

Don't know what type of matches they saw.. but tonight at a Raw house show, i went to.. the divas match was nothing special.. it was a 6 divas tag match, before it started.. the GM chimed in and made it a dance off.. The Bellas and Maryse did a pretty silly dance routine, then it was Eve, Gail Kim and Tamina... before they could dance, the heel divas attacked them and the tag match started.. i would't say it was that good.. they were nice to look at but that was about it :)

I am enjoying the women's division at the moment actually, even there are things I'd like to see and things I don't like, such as the divas only getting 5 min of air time... because lets face it, they are great to look at, and some of them are very talented athletically and improving with mat skills. Layla for instance is SLOWLY getting better. Holding her own in the ring to keep the attention on LayCool while Michelle is injured. Eve has her first ever reign going... I didn't expect it to last this long. Though I'll admit to wanting to see her drop it to Natalya or Beth to see a showdown between Natalya and Beth at Wrestlemania (or add in Kong for TripleThreat).

Totally agree with you. Those girls can put on some great matches. Unfortunately the rest cannot, it is disappointing to see them fail miserably at wrestling.

My personal opinion. The guy/guys/girl/girls who wrote those articles are on crack, or don't know anything about good wrestling. Perhaps they just wanted to give props to the divas seeing as no one ever does. But who knows.

If the E cared anything about the Divas Division, they wouldn't let Cole interrupt the Diva's Championship match on Raw. They don't care, and that was one of the most insulting things I have ever seen on a televised wrestling program. Heel heat? Not the right kind in my book. It made the diva's look unimportant, it cheapened an already Walmart priced title belt, and it took attention away from in ring action.

Diva's don't matter to the WWE since PG started. Now they can't sell sex, and only a small handful can actually wrestle.

Well I feel sorry for some of the Ladies in the Divas Divison. Ever since the whole PG era started like other people said WWE just dosn't care. (Or could it be Vince had grand kids and dosn't feel like chasing some of the women backstage anymore)

Ok, so when Trish left and retired it's when all interrest in the divison left. Plus once again with the PG era they don't do the Gimmick match like bra and panties, mud fights paddle on the stick among others. Because as someone said before they can't sell sex which was one of the corner stones of the divas divison. Sexy and powerful women. Well can't really show off the sex part anymore and their is a few that are powerful and can get it done in the ring. Heck Jerry can't even say puppies anymore.

They just stopped putting any efford into the divas. No more yearly divas DVDs, before this year we had 2 years without a divas calender. Then even if you go onto WWE shop back in the mid and early 2000's there was a pretty decent amount of divas stuff to buy. Which I just looked and while there is a little more then they use to have a year or two ago but still no where near what they use to. Most of it is just stuff with the Divas logo on it. They have a Trish retro shirt and a Beth photo and 3 shirts with a bunch of diffent divas on.

So I think they need to rebuild the Divas devision around Gail, Melina (after she works some of that ring rust out she showed in some matches) Beth, Natalya and Kong. Then send the ones like Eve, Layla, Michelle(yes some of you think she is ready but she could use a little more work) and the others that want to really learn down to FCW to train and really round out their skills to put on great matches. Then the ones that can't or don't want to wrestle either make them managers or get rid of them. Other then that they need to start looking in the indies for women that can actually wrestle insead of worrying about maybe doing another divas search which we get few women from the indies but most are models that want to get on TV. Plus work on marketing their women better then they have been.

If the WWE wanted the Women's Divison to be good they could make it good just like the Cruiserweight division could have been good and still actually could be with guys like Bourne, Tyson Kidd, Yoshii Tatsu and Trent Barretta not to mention the debuting Sin Cara. The problem with the WWE women's division, well one of the problems with it, is that they want super models instead of women that can actually damn wrestle and if they wanted a legitimate division they could have one.... They have Gail Kim, Natalya, Beth Phoenix, Michelle Mcool and now Kong to main event and carry the division while girls like Alicia Fox, Melina, Eve and Maryse could be in the middle tier and if they wanted more talent they could sign former TNA knockouts ODB and Hamada along with a girl who wrestled in the SHIMMER promotion as well as ROH named Sara Del Ray. I saw a match in Japan between Del Ray and Hamada and it was prtobably the best women's match of all time, so they can improve it if they wanted to, but sadly enough they won't because they don't care!

Melina, Natalya, Beth Phoenix and Trish are the only divas that I somewhat pay ANY attention too. But Awsome Kong's debut would definately up the prestige of womens division, but will be similar to Umagas in that it will be AFTER Wrestlemania. If there is a toilet break on a PPV, it is usually a divas match.

If the Divas were given time and were actually respected, then yeah, they could have an amazing division. I am very impressed with Layla's improvement! She is getting much better, and needs to break away from Michelle and turn face.

Nattie is an amazing wrestler and it respected by the fans because SHE CAN ACTUALLY WRESTLE! She should be given many more title reigns in the future, and a feud with Beth Phoenix, one where no one turns heel, but possibly one match where the best Diva wins, but there is still respect in the end.

Rosa Mendes needs to stay in FCW for a little longer and keep getting better, Kaitlyn should improve also.

Maryse is a solid wrestler, she just needs the chance to showcase that!
Other Divas, I can't think of anything to say, except for that Brie & Nikki Bella, Alicia Fox, and Tamina should be released

I don't see why they are waiting on this one... The return of Beth Pheonix was the perfect opportunity to initiate a build up between a match with these two at WrestleMania, and have Kong target the winner...
Guess its too easy for the writers to consider. :disappointed:

Ok i know what your all going to say the divas are a piss break but before you instantly come in here ready with sarcasm and sly remarks in mind hear me out.

How can we blame the divas because the WWE doesn't have faith in them its not like they choose to be an after thought. They go out there and put their bodies on the line every night. Just like the guys difference is the E doesn't give them a real chance to get people behind them. I'm not saying they should be given 30 min promos or cage matches and such.

But if they were given just a bit more freedom like being able to interact with male superstars like the bellas/Gail//Bryan storyline i believe that the divas can once again be a force and make WWE some extra money.

Yes i know most of the divas are ex models but wasn't Trish stratus who came in as a ex fitness model Valet and went on to win the womens title 7 times. She wasn't a great wrestler at all but she worked her ass off to become at least average in the ring.

If you think about it Trish would be in the exact same situation most ex models turned wrestlers are in today. If she had not come along at the time she did with great women wrestlers that were in WWE at that time.

Along side her to help train and mold her into Stratusfaction.
Women like Ivory,Jazz,Victoria,Jaqueline moore,Molly holly etc.
They made Trish to who she was and is today if gals like Eve torres , Alicia fox, Kelly kelly had women like those mentioned beside them they could easily pass Trish with no problem.

Now WWE has some great women wrestlers like Gail kim,Beth phoenix, Natalya, and Michell mccool. I would include Melina but she hasn't proved to me she deserves to be called a great wrestler. Anywho back to my point if WWE gave their women time to mold characters the fans can care about and divide the wrestlers from the valets. Say like The bellas, Kelly kelly,Maryse,Rosa mendez all would make great valets/part time wrestlers.

Whilst women like Gail kim, Natalya, Michelle mccool, Eve torres, Melina, Alicia fox,Beth phoenix, Tamina would be the bonified wrestlers of the divas. Now i know many of you despise Alicia fox and Eve torres but when you stop your prejudice for one second. And take a look at some of their matches you will see they're not that bad at all i myself use to hate Alicia fox and Eve torres.

Until i stopped judging their previous backrounds[as Models] and payed attention to their ring work they're not as awful as some would say.

Ok to wrap this up i think if The divas were treated with more respect the fans [mostly the iwc] wouldn't consider them to be useless. Instead of just pushing random divas into the title scene why not build their characters, Give them solid feuds for the belt that go for months. I honestly believe that if given the chance the current crop of gals can make their presence felt like the women greats of the past.End

Your thoughts?? Positive and negative comments welcomed.:)

Ok i'm confused i posted a thread i come back and i see this??
I didn't even see this thread posted other wise i wouldn't have made mine. Well that sucks. BTW Melina is botchy as hell anyone who says she is a great wrestler should be punted in the skull. She makes everybody she gets in the ring with look bad. How is that greatness...Pffft.

I think the fans would show them respect if the WWE brass did. John Lauranitis and Kevin Dunn decided in 2004 that WWE needed more sex appeal, and thus, the Diva Search began (I know they did one in 2003, but that didn't take up TV time and the winner only got a modeling gig, not a WWE contract). 10 bimbos with no prior wrestling background were brought in and took up TV time with stupid contests. It was awful, but for some reason, it got ratings.

To make room on the roster for them, WWE fired Jacqueline and later got rid of Jazz, Gail Kim and Nidia. Two of their top veterans and their top two up-and-comers. And for what? Of those 10 women, only Michelle McCool amounted to anything in WWE. Winner Christy Hemme had potential, but she got pushed too hard too soon and couldn't live up to the hype they were giving her. Amy Weber and Joy Giovanni never amounted to anything. Maria Kanellis tried, but her best work was as a ditzy interviewer and fans couldn't buy her going over on Victoria.

I am well aware that Trish was a model before she got into wrestling, but Trish had something most models-turned-divas don't have - the drive and desire to learn to work in the ring and improve herself. The Bella Twins have been in WWE for 3 years, and they still aren't any good in the ring. Maryse and Eve Torres both have fighting backgrounds, but you'd never know it by their performance in the ring.

As long as WWE values looks and sex appeal over ring skills and only gives the women 3 minutes for their matches, the women today will never get the respect that Trish, Lita and company got.

I still like the Diva Division... I follow it and do respect some of the talent

However...

the main reason that i still enjoy the division is because it has potential. Most of the divas are capable of putting on a good match and a great feud.

Michelle McCool, Melina, Beth Phoenix, Natalya and Gail Kim. All of these divas are the greatest WWE divas that are currently signed with the WWE. all of these divas have tremendous in ring skills, and are all capable of putting out a great rivalry. If they were booked in matches that lasted 10 - 15 minutes and occasionally 5 mins and were allowed to do what they wanted, then they would rebuild the division and recreate a name for them selves. Now Kong signing, the potential is now limitless, and with Trish currently around, let her put some of the girls over!

Layla, Eve, Fox, Kelly, maryse are all in my opinnion intermediates, average divas yet have ghreat potential. For the mean time, while they train and hone their skills, let them do what they want in their matches, let them have 7-8 minute matches, and let them have mid card diva rivalrys, like torrie, sable, dawn, jackie all did years ago.

Bellas, Rosa and whoever else there is can be the jobbing divas.

This would either work, restore the division, and create three separate diva classes (Mainevent divas, Midcard Divas, and jobbing divas.) Or... it would create one long piss break lol

Just my thoughts

I've been meaning to bring up the "double standard" in the recruiting of females for the "Divas division". Speaking of Divas search, and NXT, and Tough Enough. For the males they are only using guys that have some pro wrestling background for the most part.
In prior Tough Enough seasons they chose big or athletic guys that hadn't necessarily had pro wrestling training in order to see if they had what it takes and gave them the opportunity to fulfill their dreams. In NXT they took guys who were in indepedent and development promotions and brought them on TV to see who the fans like to come up into the mainstream.
I'm not so sure I'm correct about this being a double standard now that I look back on it, but the winner of the female NXT had never had a prior match and of course in the past few years they've been signing girls who weren't already wrestlers; taking models or otherwise hot and athletic models and dancers and molding them into Divas. I don't necessarily have a big problem with this, but the difference in recruitment is noticeable as is the impact said rookies have had on the product.
Perhaps if the WWE more often signed hot indie wrestling chicks instead of models who are "giving wrestling a shot", the Diva's division would be both more dynamic and successful. And obviously there are some exceptions such as Natalya. But I also think that when Beth Pheonix debuted she was very green, though dominant.
I do believe the Divas division is close to being very full and complete if they work what they have in the right way, but do you believe that in the future, in order to strike a better balance they should make a habit of recruiting female wrestlers and not just models who are willing to learn?

There are, IMO, a few ways the WWE could make us care about the Diva's division.

1. Call it what it is. It's the women's division. Call it that. The term "diva" has connotations of people who have too much self worth and too little talent. Rename the Diva's title the Women's Title. Call it the Women's division. Give it a sensible name and we'll start taking it seriously.

2. Allow the women to wrestle the men. I find the ban on women wrestling men highly chauvinistic, and it really weakens the women. While no-one would buy any of the women on the roster fairly defeating any of the men, allowing the two to interact allows the women to show they can hold their own a little. It also may force them to learn to wrestle a bit.

3. Focus on wrestling ability. Not looks. We can find pictures of pretty women on the internet. Women wrestling, not so much.

4. Give them some good feuds and storylines. Let the feuds be taken seriously. Flesh out the characters somewhat - too many of the divas seem a little flat charactered.

This topic is one that some people take seriously, and some just say "a typical Divas match" or "bathroom break" but I want people to comment on this thread and say what they really feel (while staying respectful) and give comments on what can make the Women's division better! Also, who should stay and who should go, as far as their talent and ability to please the fans!

I don't like the diva's because they aren't what I want in a woman wrestler. I like bigger built woman...no not like Nicole Bass, she's a little too big. But I like a decent built woman wrestling with another decent built woman. I like when it looks like they can take a beating. The diva's look like they spent more time doing there hair and picking a shinny 'cute' outfit to wear to the ring then they did taking time to really focus on how there gonna put a beat down on who ever there fighting that night. I don't like prissy blondie, curly haired looking bimbo wrestlers. I loved Jackie, Chyna, Luna.... Now I know Ivory wasn't a big girl but hey at least she looked fhisty for a smaller girl. I like Natalya and I like Beth. I don't like Timena really but at least she looks like she belongs in the ring. A lot of the female look like there dressed more for a porno then the ring. That's why I don't like the diva's division.

Better? bulk up a little bit, concentrate more on developing a real wrestling persona instead of just doing your hair and looking good for the camera. Develop some real characters

Personally, I'm satisfied with the divas themselves at the moment. Perhaps its not the best booking around WrestleMania season where the most "over" , or at least the most talented divas should be showcased going for the championship. However, the divas I used to have a problem with, by now, have either developed their character or improved in the ring... with the exception of Tamina and Kaitlyn, who I believe are the two newest divas. Alycia still needs work as well though she is quite athletic. I miss seeing Beth on the regular, but I understand that for a while she was in the forefront of the Diva division both as heel and face. I was disappointed when Eve won the championship instead of Beth or Natalya, but she has earned a bit of respect by improving in the ring and getting ring time has helped her to get better, so you can't really hate her for finally getting a push... as most of us love to see a good underdog story, and I think if theres any heat from the WWE Universe or IWC for her being champion it's because of bad timing and the fact there was no buildup for her to become champion, it was just kind of thrust upon her.
I'm a sucker for beautiful women, and if WWE management can pull off taking fitness models and dancers and make wrestler out of them I can't be too unhappy with the product, but I can be disappointed that there aren't more experienced, better built female wrestlers making the big time. If they are going to keep as many divas as they've had, they might as well have an assortment of shapes sizes and styles, and I think they have the makings of a balance. Let's hope Finlay's departure won't make this all a bigger mess than it is.
Diva shout-outs: I love LayCool and will be unhappy when they break up. Beth is beautiful and where is she? The Bella twins are stepping it up, and they are gorgeous of course. Gwen is making a comeback, and she has some great moves. Eve is shaping up to be a legit competitor. After Melina shook off the ring rust, she's back to her bad-ass self.
Go DIVAS

The Divas Division is something that means alot to me, obviously because I aspire to be a Diva someday myself. It sucks to see people saying 'oh it was a typical diva match' or 'i went to the bathroom' because these women really do work hard and the thing is, they have really amazing wrestling skills. I recently watched a match from Japan and it was Kong vs Natalya, and I saw Nattie do moves that I've never seen her do before in WWE. She was showing flexibility, strength, and resiliency! She kicked out of almost everything before losing to Kong. Now Kong can help the Divas division, obviously, she's very popular!! However, like most of the Divas, the WWE will not use her right, Michelle McCool is one of the greatest Women's wrestlers I have ever watched and she's made to look like an idiot and annoying because of how her character acts. I love the Divas, they are all talented in their own ways. I really do believe that someday they'll be respected again, like in the days of Trish Stratus. Also, it seems that the WWE is taking bigger, stronger girls like Nattie, Tamina, Kong, and Kaitlyn! I can't wait to see where it goes in the future and no matter what I'll always be a Divas fan.
