Best "Royal Rumbler" to Never Win It

IrishCanadian25

Going on 10 years with WrestleZone
So while working from home right now, I decided for background noise I needed Royal Rumble 1992. I originally wanted to watch Piper / Mountie, but that quickly became "let me watch a great Rumble."

And I realized that for all the discussion we have about the "Greatest Never to Win a World Title," it's never come up who the greatest Royal Rumble participants of all time were to never win the annual event.

Until now.

For my money, it's Davey Boy Smith. The guy entered #1 twice. 1992 and 1994. He hung in there both times. A half hour or so in '92, and then in '95 he was entrant #1 and the last eliminated - by Shawn Michaels.

In 1996, Smith was one of the final 4 men left at the end of the Rumble, eliminated again by Michaels - the man who had Smith's number his entire career.

Other than Davey Boy, is there anyone else you'd nominate for "Best Royal Rumbler to Never Win It," I'd love to hear them!

i'd say that kane actually deserved a win during his prime. when he wore his mask. Besides he has the most rumble eliminations in a single Rumble. I think it was like 11 people in a rumble. Which is phenomenal. And he dominated this match with some of the greatest talent, during wwe's hottest time. kane had a bunch of fan support back in the day. I think wwe had nothing to lose. Hes a former WWE champion.
He can Sell tickets. Let us not forget who put kane on the map. Undertaker did. and i think that itd be great to see a monster like kane main event a ppv like wrestlemania. Kanes a talented guy. Now i think itd be a disgrace to have kane win a rumble. its a shame what theyve done to Detective Kane. He wants to help out young talent, like dolph ziggler, like Khali, like umaga, like CM Punk, ECT. And now kane is no longer a main eventer. But 9...10 years ago kane was a big deal in the wwf. it wouldve been a good idea to put him in there with a Triple H, or With a Stone Cold. But i guess we'll never see it.

Easy answer is Kane..Why? He has appeared in consecutive Royal Rumble matches for how many years?? he has eliminated god knows how many wrestlers over the years over 30...including 11 in a single match...

After Kane I would have to say Big Show...

Kane & Big Show are good choices, as they are big guys who dominate in that type of match. How about Chris Jericho? He's been in 6 Rumbles, & he could've had an HBK type performance-goes in #1 or #2, no one expects him to go the distance. Would've worked as a heel or face. He's done everything else in the WWE, & winning the Rumble would be the last achievement he's yet to accomplish.

kane is for sure the easy answer he has done it all in the wwe but win the royal rumble. but i would have to say that as of the magintude of a star kane was in his prime he ws not as big as macho man randy savage who also never one the rumble. so i say kane but macho is dead heat tie with him

Kane! All the way home!

For me, there is no one that deserves a Royal Rumble win as much as Kane does. All the greats of this business have won a Royal Rumble and it really escalated their careers. With a quick look at the names who have won the match, there is little wonder why they have stayed in the main event scene for as long. The Royal Rumble match is probably the most gruelling match that the WWE has to offer. Over an hour of constant survival takes it’s toll and you can bet that all the people who deserve to win one, have done so in the past… All except one of course, Kane.

For me, the 2001 Royal Rumble was the greatest Royal Rumble match I have ever seen and half of that reason was Kane. He came in at number 6 or 7, I believe and was the last man to be eliminated by a rampant Stone Cold Steve Austin. Although Austin winning the match set up my favourite match ever, I think that the WWE missed a step by not giving it to Kane. At that time, he was completely dominant and would crush people with ease. I think he still hold the record for the most amount of people to be put out by one person and I think that number is 12. All of this happened at the Royal Rumble of 2001, where Kane was supreme. He was in the match for well over an hour and looked utterly amazing in it.

At the Royal Rumble match, Kane become very relevant and it is always something that I him excelling at. He always does a good job in the Royal Rumble match and should have won it back in 2001. My thought now is that he will never win it and that 2001 was a now or never time for Kane. However, the fact still remains that he is probably the best Royal Rumble specialist that has never won the match.

To best answer this question, you really have to take tow different aspects into account.

Who has performed best in Rumble matches? And, Who has had a great career but never won it?

If you want to say who has done vest in Rumble matches, then you would say Kane or Big Show.

The biggest names would include people like Randy Savage, Ultimate Warrior, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrerro, JBL, Kevin Nash

I'm going top be different to most people here, because my pick is going to be Kurt Angle, maybe not the best in Rumble matches, but certainly the best wrestler never to win the Royal Rumble

Just as everyone else is saying, I am going to have to give it to Kane. He has the third most Royal Rumble Eliminations, behind Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin and holds the record for eliminating 11 participants in one Royal Rumble. I do think Kane should've won a Royal Rumble by now, but It's doubtful he will. The Royal Rumble for the past few years have been won by those who are returning from injury to be a 'surprise' entrant, or someone that is in the middle of the biggest storyline.

For next years Royal Rumble, I see CM Punk, Orton, Big Show, or the Miz winning the match. We'll have to see though.

I really laughed at this. Not because i think its a bad topic, because i said to myself okay lets see how many people of first page said Kane. Well Apparently all, and i say who can disagree that Kane should have won the rumble. And I think he should have won in 2001, next to the fact he eliminated 11 others, there where some moments in the match where 5/6 wrestlers ganged up on him yet he managed to get them all of.

I think the problem for Kane in 2001 was. The Rock vs. Stone cold main event. That was just the dream match even though it allready happened 2 years before it this time they where at the top of there game. So one of the 2 had to win the rumble. I think that if we allready had 2 championships in 2001, Kane might have won the Royal Rumble. So they could make Stone Cold vs. The Rock in an otherway. Anyone agrees?

If i'm not mistaking Kane does not need more then like 1/2 eliminations to be number 2 of most eliminations of all time. In that case he would be behind HBK and he would go over Stone Cold.

I have to agree completely with IrishCanadian. The British Bulldog, Davey Boy Smith. In fact, the Rumble where both him and Shawn were the first ones in, last ones out is by far my favorite, for that reason. No disrespect at all to Kane, but eliminating people like that is just part of his character. What the Bulldog did, the endurance he showed, multiple times, puts him a notch above in my book.

Don't forget that the year Kane eliminated 11 people he also made the final two and lasted just under 54 minutes in the Rumble. The longest Bulldog has ever lasted is just under 39 minutes so the endurance thing really isn't in favor of Bulldog by a large margin if at all. Kane with 34 eliminations and 4 final fours is my pick for the best.

This was a fairly easy choice for me: RVD

He was in the last 5 of his first four Royal Rumble apperances. I liked how he won MITB at WM 22 but I could have also seen him winning the 2006 Rumble instead of Mysterio. If not the 2006 Royal Rumble he could have won the 2007 Royal Rumble. I know if HHH hadn't of gotten injured it would have most likely been him and Cena in the main event but I would have loved RVD competing for the title in his home state.

My first answer is Kane,
He performed of the greatest true feats of strength I've ever seen,

When he eliminated Big Show one time..he had him up like he setting him up for a bodyslam...AND carried him over to apron and lifted him up over the top rope!!!

I remember Mr. Perfect going deep into Rumble quite a few times.
The year HHH won after his first quad tear,I think Hennig was of the final 4 or 5.

For me I couldn't decide between British Bulldog and Kane But I've got to say Kane, he was build for rumble domination and he proved that in 2001, he also showedn he was still dominant a few years ago when he eliminated santino faster thananyone else. kane has being one of tyhe greats of the rumble and it's a shame he never won

Kane is the simplest choice for all the reasons mentioned above. The problem with him and Davey Boy Smith is that they were not guys who could really headline a WM.

And as for the Big Show, if memory serves he co won one year with the Rock. Rock was given the official win but Show got to headline the WM that year with Rock.

Im going to jump on the train with everyone else and also say Kane. Kane is always a dominate force in the Rumble. I believe has records for most eliminated.
But Im going to say the reason I think Kane has not won a rumble is because he is satisfied of where he is at. Kane reminds me of Chris Jericho and that Kane is loyal to the wwe and is willing to help put over younger talent if needed.

Kane or maybe even Randy Orton. Kane did great, he has the record for most eliminations in a royal rumble and I believe Kane might have even won it 2004 if it had not been for the Undertaker's music. Randy also did great in 2004. I think, (had it not been for mick foley) that he would have won rather than benoit. Both of these guys have been great in royal rumbles and its a shame neither of them has won it

The Big Red Machine, KANE!!!!

It HAS to happen at some point. This guy is THE one who deserves it, he's been in Royal Rumble after Royal Rumble! I have a feeling he'll win in 2011 or 2012. I mean the guy has a presence in the Rumble like no other eliminated 11guys in one and even today ppl back the guy each year when it comes to this match!

Kane is a veteran Royal Rumbler and he is the most deserving being a great competitor in the event each year, always coming back the following year even more amped up. It should be his time

If I had to name another it'd have to be Y2J in 2nd place! That'd be sweet.
He's one of the only main eventers not to win besides Kane & my third pick:

The Big Show! A guy who can easily be believeable as doing this from the number 1 spot if he wanted or they could have him be number 10, it can be an easy pick for the next early number winner.

Maybe Show can win the Rumble leading into WM30 and take on Triple H (the match that was suppose to headline WM2000 [before it was made a Fatal Fourway Elimination Match] back in 2000) or someone else, who knows

but overall: Kane

The day he wins, the roof will blow off, the posts on this forum, WWE Universe and the fans at every live event after will show their approval weeks afterwards with deafening cheers

I would have to agree with most and say that Kane is probably the best performer in these matches to have never won. He always as dominating performances but I think that is just to fit his persona. As for Orton, he did win it in 2009.

Yeah, I'm gonna go with Kane.

In 2001 he eliminated eleven people which may still be a record. He's also been in like 10 royal rumbles (which is surprising since he's never won one). Along with being one of my personal favorites :icon_biggrin: he always dominates in every RR he's in. I know he's probably the obvious choice but I'm sticking with him.

Randy Orton won the Royal Rumble in 2009 buddy...

I'm gonna go with Kurt Angle. Kurt Angle had done it all in the WWE. King Of The Ring. Main evented Wrestlemania. Won the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships. Won the IC, WWE Tag Team, European, WCW World and U.S titles. He was runner-up to HHH in the 2002 Royal Rumble as well. It just seems like Kurt is all about racking up accolades, and the Royal Rumble is one of the biggest.

Kane. I remember when he was at his peak and he came into the Royal Rumble match you knew a shitload of people were gonna get eliminated. Kane was an unstoppable, unflappable, monster when he got in that ring and I personally think that he upped his character to a whole other level in the Royal Rumble. It's a real shame he still hasn't won at least one Royal Rumble.

They seem to have put some effort into spreading the love around for winning rumbles. The first 11 RRs there were three repeat winners. In the last 12 royal rumbles 12 different wrestlers have won (sure that is picked specifically so we can ignore austin won his third but the point still stands). This year to keep that trend going they would likely have to go for an up and comer (please be CM Punk not Sheamus) or Jericho. Kane is the most deserving but I have my doubts if he will ever get it. British bulldog is another good choice although if Diesel had entered a few more he would be pretty high on the list himself.

Kane would be the obvious choice for best participant to never win it, he has been one of the most consistent appearing talents, he has eliminated countless of superstars and has always been one of the odds on favorite due to his size and dominance.

Kane is probably one of the more entertaining things to watch during The Royal Rumble due to this dominance and due to the fact that we know Kane can eliminate left and right.

But, from a personal perspective there's 1 superstar I have always liked more in terms of Royal Rumble, he has been one of, if not the actual odds on favorite due to his size, the man I'm talking about is The Big Show, he's been in quite a handful of Royal Rumble matches, and while he doesn't eliminate like Kane.

He is considered the greater of the threats, he is the guy that it takes either all of the wrestlers in the ring to eliminate him for, or he is eliminated by this one single dominant superstar (Chris Benoit probably being an exception, he just hung on damn well).

Actually the Big Show has been eliminated by just one guy in every Rumble he has been in. Even R Truth this past year was able to take him out by himself. Even though Show has made the final 2 twice in Rumble matches he has never lasted long. In fact there is only one time that the Big Show has entered the Rumble not in the 20's as far as entrance order goes.
