Your Favourite One-Hit Wonder Of The 00's?

So, The 00's were really good for music for the most part. Not only did we get to see the continuing development of many sub-genres like Grime and Dubstep, the death of a pop-music legend and so much more. We also got to witness careers take off with great promise like a firework blasted high into the sky. Only for that same firework to fall back to the Earth with an almighty bang.

Now, I am as much of a music fan as the next guy but one of my many guilty pleasures with music is seeing one-wit wonders disappear from the face of music. The Lupe Fiasco thread made me realise how funny it is to see artists come into the music industry all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and then never be heard form again. Now, the 00's were arguably the best years in which this has been illustrated. There was many-a-failure on the road to success and this is a thread in which we get to look at them and mercilessly point and laugh at the shambles that once was a promising career.

Of you stuck for ideas, have a look HERE.

Now, to me, I think that Billboard hit the nail right on the head. Just the other day I was wondering what had happened to Daniel Powter, who gave us the great hit “Bad Day” and some way through the search, I realised that I actually didn't care and gave up. It's funny that the song should be called what it is because he certainly a bad career.

This song, however, is still one of the best songs I have ever heard. It has remained in my music collection since the very first time I listened to it and that has to count for something, right? Probably not. But the fact remains that this song is his finest work. Given, that isn't saying much either but I think it comes down to the fact that his first song was so good that he couldn't really follow it up. The same goes for James Blunt in some respects.

Still, what is your favourite One-hit-wonder of the 00's? Hell, you can look through that list if you need some inspiration.

Before coming into this thread, Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" popped into my head from just reading the title. It is a great song and one that I believe is widely recognised as the best one-hit wonder of the 00's. However, it's not my personal favourite as there are a couple of others that I prefer.

Firstly, The Calling's "Wherever You Will Go". I actually missed this song when it first came out and just happened to randomly hear on the radio a couple of years ago. I wondered why I hadn't heard of The Calling before if this is type of stuff they produced. I looked up some of their other work and I just couldn't get into it. It was nothing terrible, but nothing that compared to "Wherever You Will Go." This pretty much goes hand in hand with what Dave was saying about Powter and Blunt.

Secondly, a one-hit wonder I still enjoy listening to is "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton. I remember being about 12 years old when this was released and I absolutely loved it. The problem being it's more of a song for a 12 year old girl rather than a 12 year boy. I remember officially declaring my hatred for it when with my friends, and then singing along with it as soon as I got home. As it happens, I have no shame now and am happy to admit to anyone and everyone that I still love this song nearly a decade after it's release.

I can't go by Billboard's list because frankly, there was only one song in there that was tolerable. Limited Billboard success doesn't necessarily translate into being a One Hit Wonder in my opinion. They have "Lips Of An Angel" up there as a one hit wonder, but did they not get popular based off the song "Get Stoned" before that song even came out? Not really a One Hit Wonder in my eyes. So fuck Billboard, a one hit wonder to me is someone who had a song that was at least moderately successful and then disappeared. 2 songs come to mind:

This is the first one and not only is it my favorite one hit wonder, it's one of my absolute favorite songs ever. I know there are a lot of people that will shit on this kind of music, hell, I hate screaming incoherent bullshit, but this just does it for me. Whenever I am pissed off at everything, this song is exactly something I want to scream out loud.

Atomship- Withered

Once again, not a huge Billboard success, but it was big in my area. I honestly don't personally know anyone who doesn't know this song, those that are fans of modern rock at least. I absolutely love this song, busted my ex's cherry to it, actually.

So those are my picks. Maybe not one hit wonders by traditional standards, but they are in my book.

I really enjoy Butterfly by Crazy Town. I'm not a huge fan of rap/rock, but this song isn't like typical, Limp Bizkit style rap/rock where it kind of hits you over the head with both. Butterfly has a very understated rock part, a nice guitar riff and a smooth drumbeat, and the rap part is pretty simple too.

I'm not sure if this qualifies, Lou Bega's Mambo # 5.

Released in 1999, but survived for several months into 2000. Thank God this guy only had one hit. I think it is my favorite b/c it is the last I heard of this turd.

After a little more thought, here is a One Hit Wonder I actually enjoyed.

Tantric

I really liked these guys and bought this album. They had a couple of other songs that briefly did ok (Astounded, Mourning, Cross the Line), but they never achieved mainstream success like they did with Breakdown.

A one hit womder in my eyes...anyone else agree?

Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal

The real winner for me in this was one song. I can remember this back in the day because my friend adam's mom went and got him this cd for his birthday I believe. He loved it and would do stupid dances to it. But really in looking after it the band hasen't done anything impressive since putting this out. They have put out albums but really I don't think anything will ever impress me as much as this song.

Still to this day I want a lightup mailbox...

Ashley Parker Angel FTW. I loved this song on the radio, and for some reason it reminds me of the Power Rangers Game based on the movie. I swear there was a song on the game that kinda sounded like this, but have had no luck finding hard evidence to back that claim.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW remember this song!? This is my first time seeing the video. The guy that's not Shaggy is fckn hideous :lmao:

OMG!!!!!! I loved this song in the fourth grade!!! I'm gonna have so much fun in this thread!

Yes, I certainly do remember this band. I was actually quite a fan of them, more due to Astounded than Breakdown, but this song was good too. Ironically, this band actually stemmed from another One Hit Wonder of the 90's, a band called Days Of The New. The had one hit single called Touch Peel and Stand:

You may or may not recognize this song, but it was actually a number one hit in the 90's. Anyway, the lead singer had/has a huge drug problem, thus the band broke up. The remaining members, along with a new front man, were the original members of Tantric. Though just like seemingly every other band, they too broke up and are in their 475th reincarnation.

Good song man, and certainly a good choice for a One Hit Wonder.

O-Zone - Dragostea Din Tei

Oh yes. I may not understand a single word there saying, but that didn't matter to me or really anyone else as this one reached number 3 here in the UK and number 1 across the whole of Europe. Hell, it was so popular it was number 1 in France for 15 weeks and spent 14 weeks at the top in Germany. It's sung by Moldovan's in Romanian, but it’s still a one-hit classic for me and I'd hope others.

Euro Pop that was catchy as hell. Eiffel 65 was probably the first album I ever owned. And it was because of this song. Stellar beat, catchy lyrics, one hit wonder. It qualifies.
